Tell me this is not real please. Scotland's first period dignity officer is a man. A MAN.

I just can't put into words how furious this makes me. Females are having the pis absolutely ripped out of them in Scotland.

What the fuck would a male understand about the indignity of realising you'd leaked through onto your clothes.

About the cold fear when your period is late.

About trying to unwrap a tampon quietly. Etc etc.

I suppose the only saving grace is at least they are not claiming to be a woman.

Very low salary?

Oh, OK. I didn't remember that everybody is on a six figure one here and would never lower themselves to such a pittance. A pittance that somebody who had been working term time only to fit around school hours, for example, would be unlikely to receive. Or part time in the NHS. Or as a personal trainer.

Obviously, they couldn't find a single person who was capable of such a job and also of a different ethnicity, either.

So tough for them - the only choice they had was the white bloke.

Everything is relative. It is a low salary for a graduate project manager position. You seem to be implying I think 33k isn't a lot of money.

I would similarly say 60K is a very low salary for a cardiologist. Again, everything is relative.

I'm just pointing out that the qualifications and expertise people are demanding he have - you're unlikely to get someone willing to work for that amount when they could be employed elsewhere for far more.

Someone earlier in the thread said he should have medical qualifications, someone else said he should be middle ages. It's just not realistic.

Very low salary?

I've also been a bit agog at 'very low salary'. I work for another local authority, in a job which requires professional qualifications, and I earn around £10k less than this job. I can only dream of earning that kind of money.

The national salary is around £24k, I think so for some posters to describe the salary for this job as 'very low' is astoundingly tone deaf.

See above.

wedonttalkaboutyouno · 16/08/2022 20:15

I’ve had male obstetricians, a male midwife, male GPS, etc, and have absolutely no qualms about any of their care or knowledge, BUT they have studied and trained to be in those roles, and their knowledge is far superior to mine. What training do we think Jason has in period products over and above most women?

User48751490 · 16/08/2022 20:16

You might be pleasantly surprised to find he is really good at his job. Give it some time.

wedonttalkaboutyouno · 16/08/2022 20:17

Also, I count myself lucky that I feel comfortable with male healthcare professionals. I know many many women don’t, and I think it’s quite a stretch to think that young girls will feel comfortable with a man in this sort of role.

LateOnTheBandwagon · 16/08/2022 20:25

@wedonttalkaboutyouno Well he may have been trained in effective publicity, marketing, project management for example (or other such qulifications / skills which the job profile listed).

KittenKong · 16/08/2022 20:31

personal trainer wasn’t he? Why not get someone who was a nurse or a doctor?

Why would a nurse or a doctor quit their medical career for a 18 month administrator post at 33K? For a job that isn't in health care, but is a logistics and compliance role?

fifteenohfour · 16/08/2022 20:57

Women are the ones who fought to end period poverty, something that affects only women. So what does a man do? Exploit woke Scotland and be the first man in the role because DiVERsItY . A role that was created by women. I mean who was on the interview panel and unanimously agreed that he was the best choice.

A relative of mine has just jacked in an almost 30 year career in midwifery to become a career in a home. Her circumstances changed.

They do sometimes.

A carer isn't the same thing as a project manager?

Waitwhat23 · 16/08/2022 21:39

When I first read the job description, the first thing that came to mind would be that it would be an ideal secondment opportunity for an experienced community learning and development worker, who has particular experience in youth work (particularly youth groups for young women) and adult education. They would likely be already working for a local authority and the salary would be roughly comparative (probably a bit more).

As said before in this thread, it would be interesting to know the skill set and experience of those who went for the job and were rejected. Perhaps it will come out at some point in the future.

The unusually short time the post was advertised for and the fact the person was already in the employ of the College is an interesting aspect too.

Four senior women, that’s who.

Ugh more disgusting racism to add to the sexism

Do you even listen to yourself?

User48751490 · 16/08/2022 22:04

Lots of posters need to have a long hard look at themselves in the mirror. No need to be sexist. Honestly.

Discovereads · 16/08/2022 22:08

Festoonlights · 16/08/2022 16:01

It’s a dark day for women when men are given carte Blanche again to take over a role that they have no hope of fulfilling with any authority or authenticity.

Oh yes, because anything to do with periods must be womens work…that’s oh so progressive isn’t it. It’s it’s also exactly why Gilead set up the Aunts House.

Waiting4baby2 · 16/08/2022 22:13

What we need is a whole troop of Jason’s cutting about the place giving out sanitary products. We can call them the pad lads. They won’t discriminate and will give them to old and young and all the genders and they will be wearing red t shirts. #padlads

You seem to have even less grasp of that than sexism.

Where have I posted misinformation?

And questioning my motivations is not on. You are way out of order.

I posted quotes from the newspaper article.

I said the new thread was chock full of misinformation…not that you had written any misinformation.

Yes I’m questioning your motives for starting a second thread based on your many posts on this thread. I don’t see how that’s out of order as my motives have been repeatedly not only questioned but denigrated complete with slurs as being a “male apologist” and “handmaiden” etc etc. At least I haven’t called you any names.

You’re defending the indefensible.

RJnomore1 · 16/08/2022 22:35

33k is the bottom of the scale for a qualified CLD worker in most local authorities.

you know what though, someone you thread has a point about why it was advertised for such a short time. I went to check when I saw that. If any of you think you have been disadvantaged by that and you would have applied for the post had it been open longer for you to see it, do complain.

Racism? Ok.

I mean, what are the feelings of women and girls from different communities compared to those of anybody white? Or is Dundee a purely white location that couldn't benefit from somebody with direct, personal knowledge of issues that might affect different groups such as not being particularly keen on men inserting themselves into the arena like a spiky tampax?

Nowhere near £33k.
