Currently have it for second time despite being fully vaccinated... both times I'm pretty sure I got it at work (school). First time was right at the start of all this and was pretty mild even then ( couple of horrible days, rest of quarantine period feeling mostly just tired and complete loss of smell and taste for a good six months. Hoping for same or better this time around. Still don't consider it an illness worth panicking about... the old "stay at home if you feel ill" mantra would be enough to contain it if it weren't for chronic underfunding leading to "presenteeism" in staff...

WouldBeGood · 23/06/2022 08:43

Oh that’s a bugger @TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong hope you get well soon. I do agree with you on staying at home if you feel ill.

I'm the only one in my immediate family who hasn't officially had COVID at least once, despite caring for small children who were coughing in my face etc. Everyone was fine btw, even my retired parents, although they were bed bound for a few days so like a bought of flu for them. Maybe I'm naturally immune or my vaccines just took a lot better than in others, but I do suspect that I had it during the first wave though, although I'll never know for sure as you couldn't get tested then. Assuming I did, then even pre vaccine it was just a normal bug that had me in bed for a couple of days (although there was a bit of a 'tail' of random coughing and fatigue for a few weeks after). Tbh the AZ vaccine I had hit me at least as hard! Overall, I don't consider it to be something worth panicking about either since just about everyone has had it and have mostly been fine, plus we've had the highest infections in the UK for a while but it's not translating into overwhelmed hospitals.

Thanks for posting this, which I'm finding terrifying: what's the betting it will be chaos in reality as the wrong people will make the decisions? And seriously, The National Care Srvice?! Is there anything the SNP won't try and rebrand?!

Tomorrowisanewday · 23/06/2022 21:12

I couldnt help but think of the shambles that police scotland became when i read about the proposed national care service 🤦‍♀️

CoralPaperweight · 23/06/2022 21:40

The national care service is different to the NHS. From what I've read the responsibility for social work and social care (help for people to stay in their own homes, care homes etc) will be taken from Councils and will become answerable directly to Scot Gov/ Ministers. I have huge concerns not least because I think if this goes through, education will follow

MichelleScarn · 23/06/2022 22:41

But @CoralPaperweight the website for the above says "Scottish Ministers will also be able to transfer healthcare functions from the NHS to the National Care Service."

What functions things like district nurse and hv roles? Some out patient clinic tasks?

QueenWatevraWaNabi · 24/06/2022 08:06

That's my concern, MichelleScarn. Where will the transfer of functions start and end?

mapleleavesreturn · 24/06/2022 08:34

We all know the SNP loves centralisation, and the nhs boards need reform but I have not a lot of confidence in the SNP's ability to do this well: - will the 'national' part amount to the SNP employing central nhs policy makers bombarding staff with policy documents on addressing women as cervix holders or whatever they decide to call us.

I'm sure language standards will be a high priority rather than you know, care.

Also you know, central collation of how you identify yourself for sex or national identity...

When is a pharmacy not a pharmacy?

When the pharmacist fucks off for lunch and there's nobody to check prescriptions, which means that even though they have the script sent through by the GP, and the drugs in stock, patients are sent away to come back "probably after 3.30".

FFS.

WouldBeGood · 24/06/2022 17:24

That really really fucks me off @Stroopwaffels

Scottishskifun · 24/06/2022 18:59

😂 our pharmacy is like this I kinda feel sorry for them as soon as it hit 1.55 the queue for his return at 2pm csn be nearly out the door!

Blimeyherewegoagain · 25/06/2022 08:39

Everyone needs a lunch break so the pharmacist hasn’t “fucked off”.
There are strict rules about prescribing and dispensing which means a pharmacist needs to be on site.
The other option would be to close the doors totally for that hour but it would stop over-the-counter sales.
What would you suggest?

imstilljenny2 · 25/06/2022 10:24

This is one of the reasons I left community pharmacy years ago to go to hospital pharmacy. Working 8am to 6pm without a break was not fun. If I stole a quick 5 mins in the back to eat something though I would always be fine with getting interrupted to give patients their medicines as I can understand how annoying it would be to come back.
Gah even writing about this reminds me how shit it was being a community pharmacist. Give me covid ICU any day!

HarvestFly · 25/06/2022 10:37

Our local pharmacist had a breakdown with the pressure 2020 landed on community pharmacies!
Left and they've never been able to replace her with a permanent pharmacist, it's run on locums.

There's possibly a national shortage of pharmacists? along with many other occupations it seems

mapleleavesreturn · 25/06/2022 13:34

It's about communication isn't it, I know the GP surgery phone line closes for a set lunch hour every day, but it's annoying when you nip out for a prescription at lunch time and there's a random closure.

I wonder if there's a website collating labour shortage occupations, useful for young people or career changers.

Scottishskifun · 27/06/2022 18:51

I find myself swearing at the disingenuous actions of the SNP around Mr Grady....suddenly they are all sympathy saying its not good enough offering support etc etc this happened 6 years ago and they refused to take it seriously as a complaint at the time so it went external. Talk about trying to save their bacon sorry but just as bad as WM sleeve which they play high and mighty for and they got caught telling others to support the man who hit on a teenager when he was double his age!!!

BinBandit · 27/06/2022 18:58

And at the same time Grady will no doubt continue to take a salary and vote with the SNP as an "independent". They are all sleekit, lying arseholes - every single one of them. And Billy Bunter will no doubt hope this is all enough to take the heat off him so he can carry on being the shit stain on humanity that he is.

Sooverthisnow · 27/06/2022 21:01

The way Blackford treated Charles Kennedy was utterly appalling.

Anyone know the Covid flying rules for a 14yo who is jagged?

DD is too young for the Covid app but we don't have any paperwork / can't find any paperwork. Do we need to ask for a replacement or does she need to test?

We fly next week (to Spain)

HarvestFly · 28/06/2022 08:21

@JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue when we went at Easter I took paper copies in case app crashed.
I'm pretty sure I logged on to the nhs inform website using the username and password in our vaccine appointment letters.
You can then download and print a paper copy of her vaccine details complete with QR codes

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 28/06/2022 09:02

we can't find any vaccination appointment letters or username etc.

Scottishskifun · 28/06/2022 09:07

If you can't find the details or get hold of a copy then she will need a test for Spain as you have to show proof.
Can you call the vaccination line and see if they csn give you a username as you can reset the password if needed.
You can then request the papercopy ours arrived within 3 days

HarvestFly · 28/06/2022 09:11

@JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue if you go on the website I think there's a link to get your username sent to you. I think you need to know the exact date of one of her vaccines for this.

My DD is 12 and she wasn't too young for the Scottish NHS app which we used in February to go to Austria.

I think even if you are in England it's from age 13.
