😮 What a brass neck.

Well, at least she'll hopefully lose some support for the SNP.

@UnctuousUnicorns

Well why I am not frigging surprised! 🙄 She can stick her "not till April 18th" up her rear end, and ram her bloody tartan mask up there after it while she's at it. While I remain resolutely mask free. Oh well, off to England on Saturday for two weeks, thank fuck.
Absolutely spot on!

I know this is a small thing but I was so looking forward to going to the theatre without wearing a mask in the hols.

Tiredoftiers · 30/03/2022 14:27

Unbelievable, imagine being in such a powerful position that to avoid appearing a hypocrite you alter the law to suit your own behaviours Hmm

patritus · 30/03/2022 14:29

I wonder who's advising SG on this as the scientists I've heard being interviewed over last week are all saying masks don't seem to be making any difference in Scotland Hmm

So don't wear one. Just take a bag of hard "sooky sweeties" and a water bottle to sip slowly on.

Nobody's going to care.

So are restaurants and theatres in the bracket with places of worship (masks gone on Monday) or with shops and public transport (masks remaining for three weeks for some inexplicable reason)? I mean seriously, even if you have decided to ignore most of the evidence and believe the mask mandate is suppressing spread, what is the point in breaking every last rule down into tiny pieces like this? It just annoys people and causes confusion.

There was an expert interviewed today (Christine someone) who I thought was actually quite sensible. She was in favour of urging people to wear them in places where there are lots of people in confined spaces like public transport, but not of having it in law which I think is the right balance. Importantly, for vulnerable people she was saying that they should wear proper FFP3 grade masks while levels are high to protect themselves, thus acknowledging that the face coverings most of us use aren't up to it. I really think it should be optional for everyone now, but with some honesty around the type of face covering needed to provide protection if you're at risk, which I don't think we're getting from SG. So many seem to believe that a scarf of paper mask is protecting themselves and others, and this is just incorrect (and might be giving genuinely at risk people a false sense of security).

ResilienceWanker · 30/03/2022 14:32

I'm holding my rant about churches and Easter 100% responsible for the concession on places of worship. Grin And that is something, I suppose. But, wtf "just another 2 (3) weeks" for everything else? What is going to change between now and then? (apart from the majority of the Easter holidays and the opportunity to go out and about without masks). Ridiculous.

Grin Well, that says what I want to, but more concisely!
CharityShopChic · 30/03/2022 14:38

Well clearly the 18th April is a lot closer to the elections on 5th May. Saint Nicola, seeing us safely through Covid and being different, more caring, more PRUDENT than that nasty Boris needs to be forefront in people's minds.

This decision has zero to do with science or public health. She's playing politics, as she has throughout.

Justmuddlingalong · 30/03/2022 14:39

So now the mask law in England has been lifted, she can merrily tit about at Westminster, without a mask, devoid of any of the personal responsibility she keeps harping on about to us? Right...

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 14:40

I am so sick of the absolute backflips required to spin “we still refuse to drop this law” as “we are in fact dropping this law! [at some future date/in part/subject to us feeling happy about it/delete as appropriate]”.

Just let it go, ScotGov. You’ve spent 18 months kicking this particular can down the road in 3-weekly instalments. Let it gooooo.

mibbelucieachwell · 30/03/2022 14:42

Thanks @CharityShopChic The group I'm going with will probably be very law abiding.

Maybe the theatre could have a prayer at the beginning?

Don’t wear it. If it makes you feel better, just hold a drink in your hand.

I stopped wearing masks a long time ago. On Monday, I travelled all the way to London on a train without a mask. Lived very happily in an alternate universe for 24 hours, where covid fear no longer exists, only to return to Scotland yesterday to tannoys of wear a mask requests in my local co op. Just stop wearing them if you no longer want to. Keep wearing them if it makes you feel better. It really is that simple. There really is no ‘punishment’ or fine for not wearing one.

No way whatsoever should anyone be wearing just because Nicola says so. Queen hypocrite and control freak that she is.

CharityShopChic · 30/03/2022 14:43

Do as Mammy tells you, peasants.
mibbelucieachwell · 30/03/2022 14:46

Great posts about failure to distinguish between different types of masks.

Originally we were supposed to be wearing masks to protect others. But there has never been any exemption for people who have recently recovered from covid.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 30/03/2022 14:53

Queen Nic has been asked by Murdo Fraser why she wasn’t wearing a mask at the service yesterday. She retorts with a comment about Conservatives not understanding rules and how she’s a rule follower. Er, so it’s not about health then?

Pathetic.

mibbelucieachwell · 30/03/2022 14:58

@NowThatsWhatICall22
Wow. Her usual nasty self then. Also, stupid, frankly as there's no rule in England that I know of that says you must not wear a mask.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 30/03/2022 15:15

The complete avoidance of questions utterly infuriates me. I have came to the conclusion that most politicians are just absolute arseholes who do not give a fuck about people. (Not completely stupid I have known this but thought some where at least decent but even if they are party politics get them in the end)

Justmuddlingalong · 30/03/2022 15:23

For those if us at the "fuck this for a game of soldiers" stage wrt facaemasks, I salute you. For those swithering through fear of being challenged, here's a link to download or print an exemption card. exempt.scot/download-a-card/

Dissimilitude · 30/03/2022 16:07

The SNP can always be relied upon to set the gold standard in safety-ist, reason-free decision making.

I went to see Gary Barlow a week ago. Only 25% wore masks during and other people were not 'eating'. Nobody cares and nobody will ask you

Anyone seen that new ScotGov/NHS public service ad about GP Receptionists? I have so many problems with it- for starters, it suggests that the receptionist is running a triage system, where they can determine from your answers to their questions exactly where your query should be directed. The first example is ‘optometrist’ then ‘physio’ another is ‘pharmacist’. The fourth option is GP (yes, that far down the list), but presumably you’ve phoned the doctors surgery because you’d like a doctor or the practice nurse to assess you? The ad claims YOU ask them a few questions-in confidence- as they are trained to, I quote, “guide you to the right care, in the right place”
Based on what? So if you phone with a leg complaint, the gatekeeper GP receptionist guides you to a physio appointment? Erm, that you can only get on a waitlist with a referral from your GP?

What a strange advert. What is its purpose? Be kind to the receptionist or listen to the receptionist, because only they can decide if you’re worthy of an appointment with the GP?
The mind boggles.

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 16:20

I did originally plan to keep to the rules until the rules ended, but am now firmly in the ‘fuck this’ camp. I can put up with pointless hassle for 3 weeks but I’m not willing to do it for an infinite consecutive series of 3-week chunks extending into the horizon. I’m not doing this indefinitely and if the government won’t set an end date and stick to it, then they surely can’t be surprised if people set their own.

Even with that, though, I’ll still have to wear one at work a lot of the time. Bah.

QueenWatevraWaNabi · 30/03/2022 16:36

Just seen on the BBC that John Swinney has covid. Which makes me wonder whether Nicola Sturgeon is hoping to have caught it from That There Dirty London to justify ongoing measures.
