Yeah, it's obviously not that high on many peoples' "things this pandemic has caused me to be pissed off about" list, and it probably doesn't make top 5 of mine, but it is just one more "what, really??!" moment...

mibbelucieachwell · 29/03/2022 20:15

I totally get that @ResilienceWanker . There have been some concerts I would probably have gone to but I couldn't face it wearing a mask. But there's so much more to a religious service.

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 10:07

My church did really well at filming and streaming services through lockdowns, but it’s really not the same watching Easter Vigil on a laptop.

I will be so sad if we end up with masks and associated faff in place until after Easter again. Really fed up of singing through a mask and not seeing faces, and all the ‘guidance’ about keeping services as short and distanced as possible. At least they’re removing much of that guidance now and at least we get to sing and have hymn books again… but I am fed up feeling grateful that the government has decided to micromanage only some of my day to day life rather than all of it. Just back off now and leave us be FFS.

Coquohvan · 30/03/2022 11:53

Hope she will ditch the masks it’s more than the time.
Just back from France and even they shock horror have stopped mask wearing from the 15\3 only in medical settings now.
In Italy for the rugby yes for the stadium never used the app in restos or cafes. Masks yes in shops etc though they are stopping them soon.
France are still currently looking for your déclaration sur l’honneur @WouldBeGood easy one page form.

Found this gif so true

Well a lot of the commentators on the radio are pointing out NS exercising her personal judgement and going maskless in London yesterday

So she'll either have to say for the people of Scotland it's do as I say not as I do. Or she felt so much safer covid wise in London at a church service with hundreds of other people than in her local Asda!

Neither is going to happen so I think we can safely assume SG will ditch the face masks now.

Tiredoftiers · 30/03/2022 12:58

What time is the announcement today? Is there any images of her maskless at the service?

This makes me pretty cross, it seems rather hypocritical.

WouldBeGood · 30/03/2022 13:01

There are indeed images @Tiredoftiers. It’s extraordinarily hypocritical. Hopefully it will presage the removal of the masks here.

Thanks @Coquohvan! Hadn’t realised that was still required

I really hope you’re right @patritus. The hypocrisy would be breath taking if she ‘two more weeks’d us again. Plus, there’s an election in just over a month and she’s not going to want to be the only part of the UK to have failed to ‘defeat’ COVID (and still require restrictions) when that comes around.

This time two weeks ago the bad news had already been leaked, and I don’t think that’s happened this time which is also positive. No point in leaking good news, it just takes something away from her performance.

Justmuddlingalong · 30/03/2022 13:13

There are definitely photos of her inside at yesterday's service. Without a mask. Or a leg to stand on.

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 13:23

Announcement is at 2 today.

Is it true that mask rules will stay in schools after Easter break? Seems really unfair if they end up as guidance for everyone except kids & teachers.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 30/03/2022 13:27

Yes @GoldenOmber. It will be ‘guidance’ for everyone, but according to Humza of course schools will follow the guidance (so it’s effectively a mandate there). I really feel for teachers and pupils stuck with them indefinitely.

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 13:37

I have really disliked the blurring between ‘recommendation’ and ‘legal obligation’ with a lot of our covid rules. Calling something ‘guidance’ to include both ‘we’d rather you did, but up to you’ and ‘you’re funded by public money so for you this is effectively mandatory’ feels like more of that.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/03/2022 13:37

I've been out and about quite a bit over last few days - shops, eating out etc. not only were few patrons wearing masks, lots of staff have abandoned them too. There's no way they are all exempt. I know it's only anecdotal but it feels like people have decided they're done with regardless of what the govt say. Except the poor kids in high schools.

patritus · 30/03/2022 13:37

That virologist from Edinburgh uni just been interviewed (Christine Tait burkard) pointing out falling case numbers and Netherlands and Germany just got rid of legal masks mandates

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 13:44

We’ve got one of the highest covid rates in Europe at the moment up here despite being one of the few to have kept masks this long. Not a great advert for them really!

I have joked before about masks causing rates to go up but… I wonder if they maybe do alter people’s behaviours in a way that at least cancels out any benefit they’re giving? People leaning closer in to talk so they can hear each other, people feeling more comfortable in standing near someone because they’ve got a mask on, “oh I do have a bit of a sniffle and a sore throat but I’ve got a mask so I’m fine to pop out to IKEA”, that sort of thing?

I was in Costa a while back and the assistant was asking me if I’d done the checking in thing, and between the coffee machine noise and the Perspex screen (which air could go right round of course) and the masks, we were having to lean closer and practically shout to hear each other. Felt like that wasn’t going to help stop transmission if either of us had it!

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 13:45

Have definitely noticed fewer people on the train wearing them, and fewer people bothering with the “No really, I’m just taking a very long time to drink this coffee” pantomime.

I have too. I’ve forgotten to replace my mask when standing up or entering a building a few times, sometimes genuinely 😉 because so few others were wearing them if genuinely didn’t occur to me. It would still be nice if this was a free choice though.
mibbelucieachwell · 30/03/2022 14:17

Imagine if there was a legal requirement to cover your hair for some vital public health protection.

Or to wear gloves indoors Grin

CharityShopChic · 30/03/2022 14:19

No masks in church as of Monday.

Masks remain in shops and public transport until 18th April. Hmm

Well i'm off to the theatre this evening and I will be eating my sweeties sooo slooowly that I won't have to put the mask on at all.

GoldenOmber · 30/03/2022 14:19

Fuck’s saaaaaaaake.

UnctuousUnicorns · 30/03/2022 14:20

Well why I am not frigging surprised! 🙄 She can stick her "not till April 18th" up her rear end, and ram her bloody tartan mask up there after it while she's at it. While I remain resolutely mask free. Oh well, off to England on Saturday for two weeks, thank fuck.

patritus · 30/03/2022 14:21

Well it appears NS did feel safer at a crowded church service in London than at her local Asda in Glasgow Hmm

Oh you sum up my feelings exactly, Unicorn. And you almost quote DH word for word, except he suggests she ram her mask sideways.
NowThatsWhatICall22 · 30/03/2022 14:25

Meh, not lifted until after the school Easter holidays. Honestly, if anyone is still wearing because Queen Nic says so, you need to have a word with yourself and get up to date with her personal non-mask wearing policy as on display yesterday at Westminster Abbey! One rule for us and another for herself and her selfies.
