Sorry to hear so many railers have covid. I hope everyone feels much better very soon, especially @Scottishskifun s parents.

Good to hear you're feeling better @FoxyFoxyLoxy .

@Lidlfix Nine days until the Easter hols, as if you didn't already know that. I hope you have a relaxing break after such a long haul of extra work and stress.

I'm very hopeful that we're peaking. Purely from a logical pov, if rates of covid remained at 1 in 14 everyone would have had it after 14 weeks.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 12:48

I think the problem is that people may test cos they feel rubbish , but then feel better and quite able to work before the approved end of isolation period expires. You don’t have to isolate in England, nor test to get out in the states, where you can go out in five days. Quite a difference. Obviously this depends if people feel well enough, not suggesting people should work if they are poorly.

So I agree that the testing and self isolating needs to stop and go to guidance.

But I’m going to take heart from the optimistic posts of @ResilienceWanker and @mibbelucieachwell and hope things are going to get better!

Thanks all DM not on antivirals at the moment as ironically she doesn't fall into the category but DF does and so far he's not too bad! Told her to ask for them regardless! Her oxygen levels keep taking a dip but she's staying above 90 which isn't good still but not terrible.

DH has said he's not risking me going given how ill I was but he would do the drive and look after DF if DM needs to go in and he also gets worse.
Glad DM is listening now though rather then saying she doesn't want to make a fuss.......Confused wonder how many hospitalisation are down to the same thing and not seeking quick early treatment (she's on day 2/3 since positive test!)

Mindtheears · 22/03/2022 15:29

DH was about to go on a work trip so tested = positive. Rest of us tested every day and DC2 positive after a few days then me just as DH isolation ended. DC1 has exams in a few weeks and is paranoid about catching tho I think it would be a good thing as them would be v little risk surely of catching in the middle of exams. DH and DC2 no symptoms, I’d have thought I had a cold - had slightly dry throat for a few days before and wouldn’t have kept testing if not for DH so would have just assumed was a cold and the repeated tests I’d already done would have ruled out Covid. I’ve had no temp, dry cough etc so they should really be giving a wider range of symptoms more publicity if they are that bothered.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 15:44

I agree with @Blimeyherewegoagain. This will happen anyway when the tests are not free

I think if they were going to alter the main COVID symptoms they would have done it by now, as Tim Spector has been saying for over a year that it looks more like a cold. Apparently this is the case even in the elderly and vulnerable in this current wave. I must confess I'm struggling to understand what the problem is if this is indeed the case (and my personal experience of just about everyone I know who's had COVID recently would confirm it). If the virus is mostly a cold, even in the elderly and vulnerable (and low ICU and death figures would seem to confirm this), and is certainly currently less dangerous than flu, does it really matter if it's doing the rounds?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/03/2022 20:15

Scotgov have confirmed that face coverings will continue to be required in communal areas of schools after the Easter break. Several of our 'experts' have hinted that face masks will become optional for the general public in April and our business is working on that assumption in their timelines. I think this will then make secondary school children (and their teachers of course) the last cohort of people required to wear face coverings anywhere in the UK outside of healthcare settings. I would ask why, but these things have long since stopped making any kind of sense. For the sake of my mental health I'm trying to focus on the fact that I won't have to put up with this, but I really feel for those of you who face wearing them indefinitely because, well, I have no idea why since they clearly don't stop transmission.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 20:21

Oh, @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us that’s so depressing about the kids. Just no evidence again.

Though I really will be so relieved if they’re to be optional elsewhere.

I’m feeling quite pissed off with everything tbh

OP posts:
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/03/2022 20:32

I'm really hoping they become optional @WouldBeGood although they've gone back on their word so many times and have such disregard for evidence I don't really trust them on anything. Reading Jason Leitch's letter to parents and young people, reassuring them that we can relax a bit about COVID in the coming months, they seem to genuinely be under the impression that most people, even young, extremely low risk people, are very worried about COVID. I can only assume that people close to them are telling them that most Scots want all this additional ineffective 'caution'. This just boggles my mind, not least because I literally know more people who've had it than haven't at this point, it's usually a cold, and I can't think of anyone who is still worried about it! Certainly not in my parent groups.

runningpink · 22/03/2022 20:38

That’s utterly ridiculous. Poor kids and teachers.

If I hear or see ‘Covid Sense’ one more time I’m gonna scream! 😡

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 20:40

Which one of them is shagging Larry Flanagan? 😃

OP posts:
Blimeyherewegoagain · 22/03/2022 21:03

It’s actually a joke now. Do you think the virus only transmits in communal areas and that they are specially designated danger zones! If the kids aren’t wearing them in the classroom then it’s time for them to go elsewhere.
They’re not doing anything to stop the spread anyway.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 21:09

Yes, the continual imposition of nonsensical and clearly ineffectual rules is not a good message from government and doesn’t inspire confidence.

My DC1 is at university and her uni still insists on face masks at all times in the buildings, including when seated in lectures or labs

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 22/03/2022 21:38

The face masks in schools have always angered me but to remove them from everyone else and keep kids wearing them fucking disgusts me.

My uni stuff is all still online. The one lab I had is finished now. They are optimistic for September.

It's coming to a close now I think we can all see that and the only lever left is masks in schools because businesses are lobbying and saying no way etc. I really do hope they get a fright in local elections. I don't think they will be outed but a good kick up the arse is what's needed

Dinoteeth · 23/03/2022 00:36

It's been a joke for months. The covid is very clever, you not remember it could tell the time and only infect you after 6pm. But it was safe to go for lunch but not dinner.Confused
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/03/2022 05:54

Also railing about this information on masks. The fact that children, the lowest risk group, could be subject to masks when the rest of the nation isn't, they it's been announced this way instead of to Parliament, the fact that it seems to contradict the gobbledygook letter issued to parents yesterday, the pictures of The health secretary on a school visit maskless, the fact they people will keep voting for them because Nicola 'cares'/better than Boris/nothing but the pursuit of independence matters, despite their utter incompetence. It makes me weep.

Our teen likes to point out that should children catch covid in school, it will be in a classroom or sitting opposite someone maskless while eating lunch so the rules just don't make sense. It won't be caught while walking past someone briefly in a corridor or communal space. His friendship group won't refuse to wear a mask but they have all started taking snacks for break as it means they can take their masks off then!

ResilienceWanker · 23/03/2022 08:42

Omg, the mask thing is crazy. Why??! If it's made voluntary/ guidance for the rest of society, what conceivable benefit would teens wearing masks in corridors/ libraries/ communal rooms at school have, especially as they remove them for lessons, eating, exercise, travelling home?! It sounds as if they are just enforcing things because they can, because they just don't want to let go of this one last power. They know that children can be made to do things in school, or will be put on detention or otherwise punished, so are putting the onus on teachers to do that when the rest of society can choose for themselves. Horrible. And, yes, totally out of kilter with Jason's letter yesterday, which I'm sure didn't mention that as a requirement - just a recommendation up to Easter, matching the workplace guidance. Bet there won't be workplaces up and down Scotland making their employees stay late and write an apologetic letter for not wearing them...

ResilienceWanker · 23/03/2022 08:50

Hope the current plague victim railers and parents/ children are feeling a bit better today - wouldbegood, runningpink scottishskifun and mindtheears - and anyone else I've forgotten FlowersBrew.

Tiredoftiers · 23/03/2022 08:52

There was recent survey that gave you no opportunity to say if your covid concerns were due to the mitigations or the virus. The questions appeared to be firmly targeted at extracting that the population remain worried about covid.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2022 08:57

Morning all. I’m fine but railing against being in Scotland- I’d feel perfectly able to go to work, and would be allowed to in England, (or even the covid crazed states) but have lost about half my income this month because of these bloody isolation rules. I’m very grumpy.

Hope everyone else is doing ok?

OP posts:
runningpink · 23/03/2022 10:09

A bit of an improvement here today. Like @WouldBeGood if I could be at work then I would. Not on full throttle capacity but enough to be able to get by and save the issues of me not being in.

I have a bad cold and cough but for me I will only normally be off work if I can’t get out of bed.
I don’t use public transport and I can stay confined to the family I care for so not passing germs to others. I’m sure I get more germs from the kids but still work when they are ill so works both ways.

(I obviously wouldn’t in a customer facing role or in a high risk setting job)

It’s all so frustrating

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2022 10:19

To be honest, @runningpink I’d decided I would just go to work, but then got myself in a mad spiral of worry and getting caught, so didn’t go. I have a mild illness and feeling very fed up. And worried about money. I’m in bed with my wee dog moping

OP posts:
runningpink · 23/03/2022 10:40

Its so hard isn't it. Hope your wee doggy is cheering you up a little

I’m pissed off that the people who I know who have been hysterical over all this, but at same time have been out in restaurants, on holidays etc are the ones who haven’t had covid and iv avoided doing all those things pretty much (my choice I know)for the isolation fear not covid. And I get bloody covid. Know that sounds crazy and bitter so I apologise
