Glad you're both feeling a bit better - but, yes, I can sympathise totally on the inability to work. Are there still SI grants available if you're not getting paid as a result - or have those gone? (though I think you needed a PCR to get those, and I'd understand not wanting to get tied up in all that palava).

The difference between approaches for "the same" rules is crazy. SI is guidance in both England and Scotland, but it's somehow painted as our world famous "obligatory guidance" here, whereas in England it's literally just guidance - recommended, and probably encouraged by many employers where there's the ability to work from home, but if you can't, and you feel fine after a couple of days, then OK to come in too... wouldbegood I seem to remember you do something lawyerly, so I totally understand your worry about "being found out"... probably not good to go against best practice, even though it's guidance. But Flowers and Wine on the financial concerns...

I'm totally astonished we haven't come down with it since last summer tbh... DS must be the only child in his class/ out of school stuff not to have had it since Christmas, and we really aren't locking ourselves away. Though DS and I also not testing routinely, so maybe we just haven't noticed... DH is testing twice a week with his work programme though (PCRs, so would expect something to have shown at some point) and is consistently negative. And he's been licking people in pubs and all sorts.

mapleleavesreturn · 23/03/2022 12:17

That's rubbish would and running Thanks

runningpink · 23/03/2022 15:27

@ResilienceWanker yes it’s still available but a pcr is required. I didn’t have the energy to faff about with that!
And would rather go hungry for a week than give Nic extra data to drag this out longer. Yes I’m a stubborn I know.

I hate being off work so to be off when I could technically manage to be in is annoying. It is what it is I guess.

And I’m at least getting some jobs done around the house

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2022 15:45

Sadly I’m not eligible because of my weird employment status 🙄 Thanks, government.

I’ve mainly wallowed in self pity but have now also done some jobs around the house and garden.😃

titsintiers · 23/03/2022 16:42

If you feel ok @WouldBeGood I'd have some wine, sometimes it is the only answer.

ResilienceWanker · 23/03/2022 17:42

Haha! Yes, I can understand your reluctance to get on Nicola's data sheet running - even for £££

And well done both for being even a bit productive around the house. Even if you'd rather be working. I think everyone's had so much time staring at their own four walls over the past couple of years that the prospect of more, definitely when coupled with no income, isn't too appealing... Definitely go for the Wine if you're up to it!

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2022 18:16

I’m in for wine.😃 Ffs, got to be something good.. and I don’t need to drive in the morning!

I think you’ve hit the nail in the head @ResilienceWanker: it’s giving me the heebies as it’s such a flashback to the dark days of lockdown. I guess I’m lucky that I have it mildly and can be just fed up.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2022 18:16

Speaking of which, @Scottishskifun sending g best wishes for your folks

OP posts:
titsintiers · 23/03/2022 19:31

I'll have one for you too @WouldBeGood I'm a team player like that Wink

runningpink · 23/03/2022 20:06

Iv got a half opened bottle in the fridge from the weekend which I don’t even fancy.
You are welcome to it, may come with Covid germs for extra flavour!

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2022 20:12

Cheers, @titsintiers 🍷 Like the Musketeers, the railers 😃

I’m covid ridden anyway, @runningpink, so I may as well 😃

Scottishskifun · 23/03/2022 23:21

Thanks @wouldbegood DF is still currently OK DM not great but she was able to tell me she felt terrible which is an improvement on last 2 days bizarrely! Still don't know if DF will follow with illness level or if ironically the one who is most an risk on paper (DF) just gets a mild case!

WouldBeGood · 24/03/2022 08:00

Oh, what a shame @Scottishskifun. It does seem quite arbitrary who feels rubbish with it. Hope they’re both on the mend soon and then you can stop worrying.

OP posts:
mapleleavesreturn · 24/03/2022 08:26

Fingers crossed for her scottishskifun I'm dreading my DM getting it as she's so terrified of it, such a worry.

WouldBeGood · 24/03/2022 15:52

So., railing against first of all NS blaming already disgraced Derek Mackay for the ferry contract fuck up.

And also Kate Forbes, Finance Minister, who knows nothing, honest, launching a Skills Academy in Dundee 🤣

OP posts:
mapleleavesreturn · 24/03/2022 16:08

isn't the ferry debacle as great as, they did their due diligence on procurement, and then ignored it and Katie Forbes (who I agree only specialises in spin) was closely involved?

mapleleavesreturn · 24/03/2022 16:10

'No written record of the actual decision'

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-60860642

titsintiers · 24/03/2022 19:47

Absolute fannies the lot of them. Couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

Dinoteeth · 24/03/2022 19:55

@titsintiers
Credit where credit is due - Boris has proven beyond all reasonable doubt his ability to organise a piss-up - without a brewery Wink

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 24/03/2022 19:55

I just do not understand how they get away with this shit? I don't know any job you would not be sacked for such shocking record keeping let alone bad decisions.

Flowers to all down with the Rona.

Watching the scotland game. I know it's friendly but I still enjoy it

WouldBeGood · 24/03/2022 20:59

@Dinoteeth can’t argue with that 🤣

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 I don’t get it either. She even said it was a fuck up but “with good intentions” 🤷🏻‍♀️ Why do people accept it?

OP posts:
Blimeyherewegoagain · 24/03/2022 20:59

DH read a report on the ferries, possibly in the Spectator, which said the people negotiating the ferries contract had no idea how contracts work in real life. They kept going back many times to make changes, this affected cost and also timelines. Also there was a lack of understanding that once you’ve started building something it’s generally not a great idea to want to make major changes to design. It may be the reason why a load of cables were delivered which were too short - because they’d already been ordered but the changes meant they were no longer fit for purpose.
You just couldn’t make it up.
But that’s what happens when you have people running the country who have no experience of running a business in the real world.

WouldBeGood · 24/03/2022 21:02

I’m also railing about the fashion for getting a Ukrainian. And posting about it. And being asked for money for it all. It’s tragic, but so are lots of wars, and people in need.

user1487194234 · 24/03/2022 21:02

Exactly
Most of them haven't even had a real job

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 24/03/2022 21:04

I mean I can have the best intentions when I make bad decisions but that is never accepted as a justifiable excuse.

@ResilienceWanker I haven't had a chance to read yet all I've seen is the bullshit waffling on Twitter. I mean I just don't even know anymore.

They are genuinely just not doing well at all which is impacting everyone in this country. It's actually quite sad
