Oh no! What an arse wouldbegood! Hope you start to feel better soon. Can't have the Railer In Chief laid low...

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 21/03/2022 10:29

DH is clearly better today although still testing positive.

He's fecking milking it. Too sick to do little things I ask him to do (like take a shower!!!), but well enough to play computer games...

If I suffocate him with a pillow, do you think I could get away with it by claiming he couldn't breathe cause of Covid....

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/03/2022 10:53

I'm looking forward to the end of testing. Given how rife cases are now and that they're expected to peak in two weeks I'm not sure why they are waiting until the end of April to end them. If almost everyone has had it recently/going to get it anyway, what's the point in masks and tests now??

mapleleavesreturn · 21/03/2022 10:55

I wouldn't convict!

Watch out for post covid bugs - we had covid and then we got yet another bug the next week and dh went down with a chest infection off the back of that another week in bed watching snooker whilst complaining about noise, lack of sympathy from spouse and calling down for fizzy water, beef stock, paracetamol vicks etc 😂

You'll be fine, He'll get counted as a covid death......

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 21/03/2022 13:37

@mapleleavesreturn I think our DHs are related

mapleleavesreturn · 21/03/2022 13:50

Grin - the last two years of non stop bugs has worn out my (admittedly limited in the first place) ability to pull off a credible florence nightingale impression. More nighty-night than nightingale.

Here's to avoiding further batches of bugs in 2022!

WouldBeGood · 21/03/2022 14:03

Railing at the news that some councils are thinking of a return to remote learning again.

I hadn't heard this! 😢 here's hoping it doesn't come to that again.

@wouldbegood hope you feel better soon and also have a mild case!

My DM is pretty unwell with it GP seeing tomorrow whether or not to recommend hospital giving time for some drugs to kick in first. DF is a few days behind I think so in for a rough week Sad this is when I hate living so far away as tbh I would just risk it and go look after them if I was closer!

titsintiers · 22/03/2022 06:53

Sorry to hear about your parents @Scottishskifun hope they're feeling better soon.

Likewise @WouldBeGood hopefully you're feeling better too.

I read an interesting article yesterday about Denmark and their peak of the BA.2, they had a fortnight peak and then cases started dropping again. Hopefully it'll be the same here.

Dinoteeth · 22/03/2022 07:33

Rotten that some councils are considering going online again. But if they don't have the supply teachers and the teachers are of with covid then they must hit a point where its unsafe to keep the schools open.

We are only 9 school days to the holidays so hopefully that two weeks off would act as a sort of circuit breaker for covid anyway.

mapleleavesreturn · 22/03/2022 07:59

I can't think they will, they won't want that much parental outrage close to the election. But I've been over optimistic before!

Lidlfix · 22/03/2022 08:10

Nobody wants it. But when you have record numbers of staff absent, some with Covid, some with DC with Covid and normal absences, running schools and the remaining staff into the ground isn't working. My HT seems determined to remain fully in person at all costs. The costs being exam classes with general supply cover, or classes lumped together in the assembly hall and "supervised". Due to the fluctuations pupils are really unsettled and behaviour seriously impacted. Exam year kids are missing out in the viral final weeks. I have never been off this year, (one of two who hadn't) in a large faculty and the strain of repeatedly having to teach my own class and keep an eye on another is not sustainable. It's not safe or fair on anyone.

mapleleavesreturn · 22/03/2022 08:32

Sounds really horrible lidlfix - this year has been just as stressful as previous ones for teachers or more so? @Scottishskifun so sorry to hear about your parents too, such a worry.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 08:35

That sounds awful @Lidlfix. And really not sustainable. You must be exhausted 💐

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2022 08:39

@Scottishskifun oh no, what a shame. Is your dm getting some of the anti virals? Glad the GP is keeping an eye on her.

Thanks, guys: so far so good here, not desirable (Covid, or me at the moment) but tootling along.

Oh no, sorry to hear your parents are struggling ski Sad

The school situation still sounds awful lidlfix. We've been sent a "reassuring" "letter" from Jason this morning though, saying that everything's going to be fine. So that's nice. It does confirm that the routine testing in schools will be stopping from the 18th April, as with the rest of society, so hopefully that will ease matters after Easter. I suppose it may mean that people are still off for a day or two to recover from actual illness, if levels are still high, but there won't be the requirement for isolation resulting from a positive routine test, when the person feels fine, or just a bit sniffly. Fingers crossed...

Looking at the figures, it looks a bit like Scotland may have reached its peak... Certainly there wasn't a big jump in daily numbers over the weekend compared to last week (around 10k per day, but not increasing) and the rise in hospitalisations seems to be slowing too... so I have Good Feelings.

Blimeyherewegoagain · 22/03/2022 09:15

This needs to stop now. We need to go back to the time when if you had a viral infection and felt unwell, you stayed off work or school. If your symptoms were mild you went in.
We need to stop with the obsessive testing. One of the reasons so many are off is down to all the self isolation of cases and in contacts. It’s clearly NOT working in its current form and we’ve ended up with this terrible self perpetuating chicken and egg scenario.

runningpink · 22/03/2022 11:17

Thank you @JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue you just made me giggle with that! There hasn’t been much to smile about these past few days
runningpink · 22/03/2022 11:25

I can also join the covid infested party! It’s growing by the day. Wine and cheese anyone?!

I only teated as I started to feel unwell and had been near someone who had tested positive. Otherwise I would have assumed it was a cold from the kids at work and wouldn’t have tested.

But I haven’t and don’t intend to report my positive case to the powers that be. The more data they have the longer they will slog this out and I’m not being part of that.

I’m too run down to go out at moment but once I feel up to it I will be going for a walk early morning somewhere quiet where i won’t see anyone.

Hope your parents are ok @Scottishskifun?

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 22/03/2022 11:41

Hope you're over it quickly, @runningpink. Just like a heavy cold is exactly how I'd describe it too. Out of isolation yesterday, managed a 3.5 mile walk this morning in the sunshine no bother. DH improving too. Just rest up until it passes.

DH hasn't reported his positive test either as there is no point.

Lidlfix · 22/03/2022 11:51

Blimey, my experience is very different. Nobody is off where I am due to being a close contact. They are all off , pupils and staff, because they are symptomatic, too unwell to work or come to school .

They are testing because they feel rubbish.
So are doing exactly what you suggest. No obsessive testing where I am . Isolation of contacts stopped in January (too late for shite holidays spent in my house) for most.
