Unfortunately not, @runningpink. these are just council elections, not parliament elections.

runningpink · 15/03/2022 20:50

Ah damn! Wishful thinking then. How long till we can get rid of her?

Pootle40 · 15/03/2022 22:31

@runningpink

I refuse to wear a mask after Monday regardless of what is said today. I have had enough and they said the 21st so they need to follow through.

I reckon it was the 21st rather than sooner so the rugby was finished!

I stopped weeks ago.
Pootle40 · 15/03/2022 22:34

@user1487194234

Can't believe we still have to wear masks Feel so down
But you don't though. Stop wearing it. It's liberating.
Cismyfatarse · 16/03/2022 06:46

My mask wearing days are over. I still have to wear one in corridors at school which I will do as it is too much hassle to get an exemption and the end of term is 2 weeks. But no more in shops.

I hate her. Smug. Liar.

And the rest of them are spineless in not challenging properly.

Aurea · 16/03/2022 07:18

So do we still have to wear masks in hairdressers? The one I go to from when the initial lockdown finished has never actually seen my face!

GoldenOmber · 16/03/2022 07:29

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

I'm seeing NS trying to claim that masks in shops and public transport are the only restrictions remaining now, with all other requirements on businesses being dropped on Monday. Does this mean that workplaces that aren't public facing (offices etc) still have a duty to be 'COVID safe' or are they free to return to normal? I.e. will my office still ask me to wear a mask when moving around the building and have limits on the numbers in meeting rooms etc?
I believe they no longer have a legal duty to take ‘reasonable precautions’ around covid, but there will still be guidance they can choose to follow or not. My employers are very nervy and will be keeping masks and one-way systems for the next three hundred years.

I expect a lot of public spaces like libraries, leisure centres etc. will keep things while private places like bookshops and private gyms drop them, and we’ll continue with the two-tier system that seems to have established itself now. I can take my toddler to fairly normal classes now if I pay for it but the library BookBug sessions are limited numbers, pre-booking essential, masks and hand washing at the entrance, one-way systems…

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 16/03/2022 09:21

Exactly this. Anything state controlled will follow the word of Queen Covid like gospel. I was at the archives in Edinburgh last week and they were STILL quarantining boxes of paper for 72 hours after I'd looked at them, for goodness sakes. And masks, and all the windows open, and sanitise, and make an appointment 4 weeks in advance, and socially distance, and screens, and closed for sanitising at lunchtime and all the rest of the nonsense. That's not going to stop in a Scottish government building.

Dissimilitude · 16/03/2022 10:22

Covid is exactly the excuse some people need to rearrange their work place to benefit themselves and not those whom they are meant to serve. It'll linger in exactly those places dominated by the staff, and not the customers.

QueenWatevraWaNabi · 16/03/2022 10:33

Railing against the Scots question on the census. I mean, I can understand a lot of Glaswegian but I wouldn't tick a box to say that - and I don't know if Scot Gov need encouragement to translate into various dialects or have them taught in schools?!

OnceUponAWhine · 16/03/2022 10:50

Isn’t this hideous? Library services are funded via our council tax, wish there was a council with the balls to say no to these ongoing, unnecessary restrictions imposed on them. The dwindling access to libraries across Scotland was bad enough, but to know even the little ones are continuing to be impacted is really depressing. Sad Libraries previously offered additional support services to elderly in the community, including digital learning, those with visual impairment, etc.

Think about library services in the forthcoming elections, ask your local candidate how they will support recovery in this area. Vote for anyone who demonstrates any innovative thoughts around sustaining access to books and library services for all in local communities. innovation in Scottish politics who am I kidding

@QueenWatevraWaNabi Exactly! So answer no to Scots language ---> they are justified ramping up the Scots in schools.

Answer yes ---> they are justified keeping Scots language in school.

And where's Doric on there? I can just about understand that.

LizzieMacQueen · 16/03/2022 10:56

Oops my arrows failed and have been struck through.

Hope you follow.

QueenWatevraWaNabi · 16/03/2022 11:03

I clicked on the help link (who was I kidding) and they consider Scots to include Doric, Glaswegian, and a host of others. It's almost like they're trying to fudge the figures...

Wonder if the English census looked for numbers of people who can understand / speak Cornish or Geordie...

QueenWatevraWaNabi · 16/03/2022 11:09

www.census.gov.scot/help/questionnaire-guidance/13

'Scots - It is up to you to decide whether you can understand, speak, read or write Scots. Select all that apply.
Scots is spoken all over Scotland. Scots is the collective name for Scottish dialects such as 'Glaswegian', 'Doric', 'Buchan', 'Dundonian', or 'Shetland'. Taken altogether, Scottish dialects are called the Scots language. Scots is often known by names such as: Borders, Doric, Scotch, Fife, broad or braid Scots, Gallowa, Glesga and Lallans. This is not a full list and you may have your own name for your local way of speaking.'

I have teach yourself doric books does that count?!

Honestly part of me is really tempted not to fill in the census at all and see if they bother follow it up!

Indeed.

I was also contemplating that- then a friend advised if I started it, then perhaps I might forget to complete it, but at least if I used the access code, it would look like I’d attempted. You don’t include email addresses on your contact form, so you shouldn’t in theory be e-spammed either. You might get some waste of paper reminders, but in short if you register with the access code and start/save it, then your forgetful memory kicks in and you forget to complete it. Oh dearWink Let them try to come and fine me for that. The small print says ‘you may be prosecuted if…’

And you have until May to complete it anyway, so here’s hoping it’s another task that is beyond the capabilities of ScotGov to complete properly, so no fining system is actually in place. Maybe it’s been outsourced to a company in Turkey?

GoldenOmber · 16/03/2022 12:54

I like the idea of Covid Sense. Like Spidey-Sense, but for covid. If you bump into someone you’d rather avoid you just declare “my Covid Sense is tingling… someone over there hasn’t taken an LFT!” and sprint away. Can’t be any less effective than the current restrictions and ‘guidance’ and sounds much more fun!

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2022 13:27

Can you swing away across buildings, using a chain of masks fired out from your sleeves?
