I had a lovely trip to Dundee at the end of last month. Local train to Glasgow QS, bus from BBS to Seagate, local buses around Dundee, in and out of shops, staying in a hotel. Not once did I wear a mask, not once did anyone bat an eyelid. Nobody gave a shit. It did tickle me when in M and S I was waved onto the till staffed by a fellow unmasked cashier. So nice to be able to properly smile at and chat to each other while my shopping was put through. 🙂

WouldBeGood · 15/03/2022 16:33

I’ve had no trouble with no mask on trains, nor from shop staff, they've actually been lovely. I keep a polite distance lest they be wary, but no hassle

What with this, the witches, the Turkish built ferries, and the gender bollocks, I’ll be voting Tory in those elections.

Gender bollocks perhaps unfortunate phraseology 😳

My younger self would be gobsmacked, but I think I will too @WouldBeGood. They seem to be the only ones with any inkling that women are defined by their biology and need single sex spaces accordingly, and they seem to be ones arguing most strongly for a return to 'normal' and dropping restrictions.

Scianel · 15/03/2022 17:23

Me three and if you'd told me a couple of years ago I'd have laughed in your face, I was really keen on the SNP and would never have dreamed of voting Tory in this lifetime.

I won’t vote Tory but this pandemic really has changed a lot of my views on politics. Absolutely never again going to willing give any government powers in an emergency that I wouldn’t want them keeping forever, because they clearly won’t want to give them back.

Really shocked and disappointed by just how easily this government have found it to fall back on micromanaging and controlling people’s lives when they felt out of their depth, and how many people are totally happy with that and get all panicky about having to make their own decisions.

LibDems getting my vote in future I think. They’re a bit useless at many things but at least they remembered their principles when vaccine passports came round.

GoldenOmber · 15/03/2022 17:52

I was a member of the Greens once and now it’s like thinking back to the really embarrassing boyfriend you had when you were 19. Grin

RaraRachael · 15/03/2022 17:56

WTAF. When will the SG get it into their thick heads that masks don't make a blind bit of difference. SO fed up at the prospect of at least another 3 weeks of the bloody things.

Never mind, there's council elections at the beginning of May so I expect all restrictions will be lifted by then in order to butter up the electorate. However I think the SNP may have shat in their nest what with the Covid debacle and cosying up to the Greens fingers crossed

Grin Kudos for admitting it though!

Totally with you on the micromanagement and retention of powers to do that. To be fair, shit though the UK gov has been, and I'm not forgetting the whole PPE fiasco/ contracts for mates and so on, they did seem much more accepting that the powers were temporary, and when they had set a date for relaxation there had to be a bloody good reason not to go through with it, and similarly for introducing/ bringing back new restrictions. Possibly because their backbenchers would have lynched them otherwise... but that's a control we haven't had up here, and it worked!

Ha to the gender bollocks Grin I think what with that and covid and brexit I'm back to not being able to vote for anyone without feeling disgusted at myself for breaching a moral red line. Urgh... why can't we have sensible, normal people setting up a political party...

OnceUponAWhine · 15/03/2022 18:51

Offset any guilt you feel for voting for others by checking how they do at least TRY to make the FM accountable. Today, Tess White MSP asked why the covid passport scheme costs had risen to £7m in Scotland.
Did she-who-must-be-obeyed answer? Look up that MSPs Twitter post to find out…(clue: no, she didn’t)

WouldBeGood · 15/03/2022 19:08

I won’t vote libdem because of the gender bollocks 😃

I’d like to vote Labour but more gender stuff and no questioning of herself.

I actually might vote green if they weren’t what they are

Fair point. I've just watched the little segment on her twitter. It's crazily obvious how NS just answers a totally different question... she wasn't asked about whether vaccine passports were good value for money/ saved lives or whatever Hmm She was asked why the project went more than 10x over budget... I'd be hauled over the coals for shit project management if any of my projects did that... and there nowhere near that level of £££! Of course there's always issues, so she could easily have said, oh this thing cropped up, or we messed up on the tender process and hadn't costed in x, y and z which the contractors pointed out after they were appointed to the project conveniently enough But she just kicked it to the PI which I'm sure is convenient for her to not have to answer the question she was asked.

Well since you've run out of options there's nothing else for it. You'll just have to vote for the Alba partyGrinGrin
Whattochoosenow · 15/03/2022 19:33

Green is worse for the gender thing.
I’m hoping that all this nonsense with the masks is the start of NS and her SNP cronies’ downfall.
Does she actually think everyone is still testing twice a week too??
I’m looking for independent candidates followed by Tory and I won’t be numbering SNP or Green anywhere on my ballot paper.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 15/03/2022 19:42

I'm seeing NS trying to claim that masks in shops and public transport are the only restrictions remaining now, with all other requirements on businesses being dropped on Monday. Does this mean that workplaces that aren't public facing (offices etc) still have a duty to be 'COVID safe' or are they free to return to normal? I.e. will my office still ask me to wear a mask when moving around the building and have limits on the numbers in meeting rooms etc?

WouldBeGood · 15/03/2022 19:42

@patritus I’ll get the Declaration of Arbroath tattooed on me and ensure that I’m permanently swathed in plaid

OP posts:
GoldenOmber · 15/03/2022 19:58

hello I would like to rant at the people (and certain relatives on FB ahem ahem) who think keeping masks is a great idea because "it's the tiniest thing", "it's the LEAST people can do" and "it's hardly difficult, I don't see why people are complaining."

because:

a) clearly it is NOT the tiniest easiest thing for everyone, is it?

and b) if you find it easy and not really much bother, and I find it difficult and annoying, and yet I have been doing it for 18 months plus anyway, why would you think you're the one with the moral high ground? By your own admission you're not doing anything you find difficult or much effort?

It would be like me when I used to walk to work at my old job, saying "walking to work is the tiniest easiest thing people can do to help climate change, I just cannot understand why people would make SUCH a fuss, it's only a few steps. Why yes I live ten minutes away and have no difficulty walking, whereas you live 15 miles away and would have to get up at 3.30am and slog across a forest and you have sciatica to boot. But really I am a better person than you because I am finding it easy and fun while you would quite like to know when the trains are running again."

Haudyourwheesht · 15/03/2022 20:00

I'm pretty sure those saying it's a small thing aren't having to commute by public transport, or wear them all day in work.

There should be another thread where we can reveal guilt-free, our inner most fantasies that incorporate a plaid theme🤣

note to self: don’t be giving the snp bots on Scotsnet any new thread ideas

Just thinking there is no way she will remove masks at beginning of April as that’s the Easter school holidays.
And we can’t all go out and have a nice time and be sensible now can we.

Feel so down again.

My boss was all for the masks staying when it was announced a few weeks back. Even if it’s only a small percentage of effectiveness that’s better than none, will still wear to protect the old folk etc
He can be quite arrogant and very much comes across that he knows better with a lot of things

If he starts tomorrow at work I swear I may thump him!

I don’t have the energy for any of it anymore

runningpink · 15/03/2022 20:27

These elections, will it be possible for Nicola to go if folk don’t bloody vote for her? I don’t understand all the ins and outs of the elections

If so can we start a campaign to get her kicked out?! 😂
