Anyone been to Specsavers recently? I'm due a new prescription, but if they're still fannying about, putting you off trying on too many frames, I'll leave it for now.

mibbelucieachwell · 16/03/2022 13:48

I thought Scots was supposed to be a specific area of Scotland. Was the slave trader, unfaithful, drunken St Rabbie Burns not supposed to have written his couthy rhymes poems in Scots?

Would it be okay to answer yes, of course but I'm not particularly interested in constantly looking backward and would rather have the opportunity for free mandarin/Spanish or Turkish lessons?

Scottishskifun · 16/03/2022 14:12

@WouldBeGood

As long as they’re spending our money wisely *@GoldenOmber* 🤣
Yep they are so good at that! Find it comically ironic that the vaccine passport now estimated to cost 7 million...... when they turned down using the free English one because they had to have their own! 🙄 😂 also remember being told on scotnet by the loyal few that it was fine for them to develop their own and it wasn't a waste of money at 600k......wonder what their opinion would be at 7 million now.....

@QueenWatevraWaNabi

www.census.gov.scot/help/questionnaire-guidance/13

'Scots - It is up to you to decide whether you can understand, speak, read or write Scots. Select all that apply.
Scots is spoken all over Scotland. Scots is the collective name for Scottish dialects such as 'Glaswegian', 'Doric', 'Buchan', 'Dundonian', or 'Shetland'. Taken altogether, Scottish dialects are called the Scots language. Scots is often known by names such as: Borders, Doric, Scotch, Fife, broad or braid Scots, Gallowa, Glesga and Lallans. This is not a full list and you may have your own name for your local way of speaking.'

I am 46, Scottish and didn't know what 'Scot's' was when I saw that question on the census.

Both my boys were in last week. Still had pointless plastic screens that do f all. I dared pick up glasses for my youngest to try on and they acted like I had tried to steal the Crown Jewels by touching these frames which they clean before they put back out, imagine if a supermarket was 'cleaning' every item that someone picked up and put back, it's mental.
Scianel · 16/03/2022 14:57

Was St Rabbie Burns not also a bit St Rapey Burns?

Justmuddlingalong · 16/03/2022 15:00

Thanks Pootle. Think I'll leave it. No point putting myself through the blood pressure raising shenanigans.

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2022 15:08

I believe it was suggested to the faithful that there was potential for the (needless) costs to spiral…

Just want to rail on behalf of some incredible teachers. They’re not complaining, but there’s a film on BBC News, look at #TheNine on Twitter. I can’t believe this is happening in Scotland, 2022. Teachers shopping to top up the school food bank. Children freezing in their homes with no heating, school steps in. It’s really not about teaching under these circumstances, it’s teachers acting as social workers.

I’m so ashamed this is happening to this extent in modern Scotland. Railing that ScotGov need to own these failures on our doorstep, stop the narrative that Westminster suppresses their spend on fixing lives for children and families in Scotland😡

Sorry to hijack a thread primarily for rails about covid life, but honestly, gives me the rage. So many should be hanging their heads in shame at their failures. Angry

mapleleavesreturn · 16/03/2022 18:03

I saw that too once and I agree.

RaraRachael · 16/03/2022 18:46

If the Scots language question on the census form if some backdoor way of shoving more Scottish stuff into the Curriculum for Excrement, they can't possibly accommodate every type of "Scots" that's used in the country. If they push anything other than Doric I wouldn't have a clue and vice versa.

LateOnTheBandwagon · 16/03/2022 19:54

The Census is available in 16 languages but not in Scots. Hmmmm, wonder why? : ))

GoldenOmber · 16/03/2022 20:28

Annoyed that it only asks whether I know Scottish Gaelic or not, and won’t let me give myself credit for knowing about fifteen words off Duolingo and from watching Machair as a student.

Cismyfatarse · 16/03/2022 20:38

I am putting a ? next to the Scots language question because I don't understand the question. They can't fine me for not understanding what it is asking.

Dinoteeth · 16/03/2022 20:48

I ticked No to Scots

But then it's a catch 22 question, no matter the answer it will be twisted into 'supporting' scots.
Will they add Polis to the side of the police cars - is it appropriate to write 'meat wagin' on the van thing Hmm

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 16/03/2022 21:04

I have the covid lurgy. Just like a bad cold. DH testing negative. That's our plans for the weekend snookered!

QueenWatevraWaNabi · 16/03/2022 21:17

Will they add Polis to the side of the police cars

  • and will a bawhair become an official measurement?
FoxyFoxyLoxy · 16/03/2022 22:08

Also I am totally lost with what the rules actually are. Should I be taking a PCR? Don't think I'll bother, I don't really see the point, we know the drill about staying away from people. Everyone else in the house is negative. Going to be a boring few days!

Any Netflix recommendations?

GoldenOmber · 16/03/2022 22:18

‘The Puppet Master’ if you haven’t seen it already, FoxyFoxyLoxy.

user1487194234 · 16/03/2022 22:33

You are supposed to report your positive LFT if you did one
I didn't actually bother

Dinoteeth · 16/03/2022 22:37

@QueenWatevraWaNabi
What about the weather man saying it will be "tipping it" in Glasga and "Bucketin" in Edinburgh. Meanwhile it will be Baultic in Abeerdeen

LizzieMacQueen · 16/03/2022 22:41

Tinder Swindler and Inventing Anna are both good @FoxyFoxyLoxy but you'll find other recommendations over on the Telly Addicts topic.

Not specsavers specifically, but had DS at a couple of opticians recently for new glasses. Allowed to try on as many as we liked, but they were all sanitised afterwards. In boots we had to put them all in a tray and could only try them without a mask once sitting down.
WouldBeGood · 17/03/2022 08:36

@OnceUponAWhine that’s just awful.

I’m liking polis on cop cars though 😃
