@GoldenOmber

Literally, we don’t. Absolutely nothing legally binding that makes us. Obedience and being one of Nicola’s sheep are the only reasons anyone would.

Don’t really fancy getting kicked off the train and/or fined on my way to work. Could tell the ticket guy I’ve suddenly developed an exemption I suppose…?

Trust me, you don’t kicked off the train. Nor do you get thrown out of the supermarket. Nor do you find yourself unable to buy a coffee to takeaway, next to people who are sitting inside without a mask🤣 If you’re asked by an individual shop owner to put one on, you turn around, walk out and take your business elsewhere. That’s the joke here, there’s nothing in place that means you would or could be made to put on a mask. It’s because Nicola says, but makes it sound like you would be disobedient/a horror on society/could be prosecuted to not do so…yet here we are, 6 months on from masks dropped in England, you do the math!
hilbil21 · 15/03/2022 15:23

@GoldenOmber Scotrail actually said a few months ago they weren't going to enforce it anymore will see if I can find a link.

They aren’t? Thank you, that would be great! If they’re actually not enforcing it as policy (and not having BTP roaming the stations grilling people any more… haven’t seen that since Jan but it was really unpleasant) then I will happily not bother. Much though I’d like to walk out and take my business elsewhere I don’t fancy my chances doing that on a train going 55mph Grin

mibbelucieachwell · 15/03/2022 15:27

I don't think I'm brave enough not to wear a mask in plain sight as it were. I've done it twice when popping briefly into shops and I take it off just before I leave my local supermarket but that's it as far as being bold has been.

On trains, cinemas etc there's the excuse of having a drink so I use that for all it's worth. You lot are inspiring me to be braver though.

This thread is really therapeutic @WouldBeGood Thanks again for starting it.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 15/03/2022 15:27

So we can now fly into the country massless but will need to wear on in the airport?

Flowers to anyone feeling shitty today. I do think it is all crumbling and she's just going to milk it. Free testing is a good sound bite but before long it will be oh big bad Westminster we can't afford it.

I need to find out who's standing in my local elections actually have had nothing so far

GoldenOmber · 15/03/2022 15:29

Brilliant brilliant thank you hilbil21. I am happy to ignore fingerwaggy announcements if they’re not actually going to enforce it.

hilbil21 · 15/03/2022 15:30

@GoldenOmber I suppose you run the risk with BTP but just keep one in your bag lol. But actually on the train, I think you're fine.

GoldenOmber · 15/03/2022 15:32

I’ve only ever seen BTP do that at the station, so can keep one in my bag and just “ooopsie, forgot” for as long as it takes me to walk through if they’re about.

Scianel · 15/03/2022 15:34

Could tell the ticket guy I’ve suddenly developed an exemption I suppose…?

I can guarantee you the ticket guy doesn't care. No-one has ever said a single thing to me.
And if they do... well awful shame your (insert reason) is playing up all of a sudden.

Scianel · 15/03/2022 15:36

GoldenOmber sorry just seen you've actually seen people get hassled. That's awful.
I've been travelling one of the suburban lines into Glasgow sans mask for around a year now and not had so much as a funny look.

OnceUponAWhine · 15/03/2022 15:37

And once more for those at the back, do fuck off Nicola (KrakensteinGrin) if you think that officially dropping the mask mandate in time for the elections so we’ll cast our votes for your arsehole of a party to show our gratitude, then you have officially lost the plot.

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 15/03/2022 15:39

Urgh someone on my FB page already going on about how she's glad masks are staying, and how she wears one for a 14 hour shift as a nurse, and if she can protect the vulnerable she will and yadda yadda yadda.

We are never getting out of this.

Scianel · 15/03/2022 15:44

Even if they scrapped every last measure and put a law in place prominsing no more ever, there's still the little issue of them having no idea what a woman is.
Shower of useless shits.

ResilienceWanker · 15/03/2022 15:44

Strictly speaking, we could be fined/ chucked off a train though. I mean, people who are able to advocate for themselves, use the right words and "develop exemptions" or whatever would probably be fine... but if I told a policeman "I think it's all a load of bollocks and not supported by the evidence" if asked why I wasn't wearing a "face covering" I could be fined. I could be out and about having had a brace of positive covid tests without being fined, but the mask thing is still legally enforceable... Which is why it is so fucking annoying and seems like we are given so little power over our own decisions.

Of course we can walk away from most situations where masks are "enforced" but it does seem like we are cutting off our own noses a bit... I WANT to go into a particular shop, and I'm sure the shop keeper would like me to - but they are scared of someone dobbing them in for not enforcing the rules, and I am scared of making a scene, and confronting someone just doing their job and being glared at by other shoppers... so everyone loses out. Either I back down, leave, and don't spend my money, or I glare at them and they back down but I feel bad and embarrassed and don't feel like shopping there any more, or I lie and say I have an exemption and its fine but I have a nagging feeling of guilt at misappropriating suffering of someone with an actual disability... Its ridiculous, but they do have the duty to request anyone without an exemption to wear a mask, and to call a police officer if they don't. Many shopkeepers may ignore it - but those that don't are, arguably, more in line with the actual law. It's stupid and pointless - but we are where we are... And we're now going to be in that position for another two weeks six months...

Justmuddlingalong · 15/03/2022 15:47

If you've very recently had covid, is that excuse enough not to wear a mask?

HoldingTheDoor · 15/03/2022 15:49

That's another reason why I despise her and the party in general though unfortunately they aren't the only party that's guilty of that.

ResilienceWanker · 15/03/2022 15:50

Yes... I was a Waverley the other day and a LNER train came in with (being generous) about 10% of the disembarking passengers wearing masks. BTP went up to a few who pulled out a mask, and others further back hurriedly pulled them out of their pockets Grin It was quite some social conditioning going on... I had an empty coffee cup with a lid on so was immune from being questioned
FoxyFoxyLoxy · 15/03/2022 15:56

DS is in uni today, one of his rare days on campus. Texts in disgust to say he's heard the Sturgeon announcement. Also says hardly any of the students are wearing their masks in the labs, him included.

Good lad.

FoxyFoxyLoxy · 15/03/2022 15:57

Do they make an announcement on the East Coast main line leaving Berwick? We are crossing the border. Masks on...... Now!

Hmm
OnceUponAWhine · 15/03/2022 15:58

No police officer will ask anyone why they are not wearing a mask these days. (That’s so 2020Grin)

The same way they didn’t stop anyone travelling to Manchester when Nicola decided it was within her jurisdiction to stop travel ‘to England’, she just made it sound as though they would. Remember that?

OnceUponAWhine · 15/03/2022 16:01

I can see why BTPO might do it, for optics, if they’re based at a mainline station, but if you’re carrying a cup or an egg sandwich*, you’re exempt Hmm

*any arbitrary edible gives you a superpower

Thanks @mibbelucieachwell. The SG is the railing gift that keeps on giving

Hmm

DH suggested that wouldn't be necessary, as they are hermetically sealed with clean English Air, and it's only once they are opened in Scotland that it becomes a problem...
readsalotgirl63 · 15/03/2022 16:18

I travelled by train last week and no -one in the coach I was in was wearing a mask while seated. It was quite late at night and quiet tho. When I got to Glasgow I approached 3 masked policemen to ask where the taxi rank was and none of them commented on the fact that I was unmasked inside the station.

Going on the train again next week - not going to wear a mask
