Will it ever end?

Oh yes please! Here’s hoping more countries follow suit!

runningpink · 05/02/2022 18:58

What a game! Bloody amazing result! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Lockdownbear · 05/02/2022 20:51

I'm sure more countries will follow the Danes.
SNP generally like to think Scotland could be like Norway, just wait until they start lifting restrictions.

That's will have them in a bigger tizz, fires vs covid vs Scandinavia ignoring the covid.
Maybe common sense will prevail.

I'm still reeling about school doors.
The Fire Regs are the earliest bits of building legislation only date back 350 years. Just about every change and beefing them up is a result of tragedy, actual people dying or life's and property destroyed. Why the heck you'd piss on those peoples memories by even suggesting cutting fire doors is beyond me.

Surely to God she must have discussed that with someone before opening her mouth and saying it in public?

ElephantOfRisk · 05/02/2022 21:03

And almost to the day on bringing in ott fire regulations for the rest of the population @Lockdownbear.

It's not as if there was some complicated theory behind it beyond the intellectual reach of your average punter. Every non scotgov human (and i'm sure some of the tongue tied SNP back benchers) in the country's first thought was "what about a fire?"

We've all had ingrained into our psyche that closed doors stop fire. Why was this not the first thought of ScotGov?

ElephantOfRisk · 05/02/2022 21:06

Most of us older posters grew up with an open fire, or a paraffin heater or a gas cylinder heater or the posher folks with a gas fire. Plus chip pans and smoking and ashtrays on bedside tables. We all had a healthy respect for fire.

Lidlfix · 05/02/2022 21:13

Paraffin heaters and nylon nighties, my DM still has nightmares. Sad

ElephantOfRisk · 05/02/2022 21:17

Oh yes, i forgot about flammable children's wear, especially the floaty stuff. I used to sit on the fireplace, back to the fire drying my hair in my nylon nighty and remember all the burn marks/melted holes on the rug from sparks if it was sparky coal? Strangely no-one seemed to put those two things together. It's amazing we survived!

Scianel · 05/02/2022 21:22

And almost to the day on bringing in ott fire regulations for the rest of the population

That is a particular irony.

I'm struck yet again about how any "traditional" health and safety seems to have been disregarded if it's in conflict with whatever covid mitigations are suddenly desired.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/02/2022 21:24

Yes, it's almost like there is nothing important other than covid. It's been a way to cover up their failings so I'm not surprised they are reluctant to get rid of the focus on it and the powers they've gained from terrifying their population.

ResilienceWanker · 05/02/2022 21:29

Yes! See also "don't touch the handrail while going down stairs", "keep all doors and windows open at all times... don't bother about minimum working temperatures for staff, or think about energy saving measures" and "men, don't forget to wear your mask at night when walking around - women just love having that bit less face to identify you by should they possibly need to".

Scianel · 05/02/2022 21:34

Absolutely. At least if you fall down the stairs and break your neck, or get burnt to a crisp, or murdered down a dark alley, or die of hypothermia, you won't have met your demise at the hands of covid.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/02/2022 21:36

Or the effect on the environment of millions of excess LFTs and masks all shipped round the world and dumped in landfill or on the streets - who gives a fuck about the turtles and the pandas and the polar bears now?

The cancelled clinics and ops and not being able to see a GP, the mental health crisis the lack of dental treatment. Asking people not to go to their Drs and therefore miss cancer diagnosis, don't call an ambulance etc etc etc.

The fallout from restrictions hasn't even hardly begun.

And the study of studies has determined that all the lockdowns and restrictions might have saved 0.2 per 100,000 lives.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/02/2022 21:38

Sorry, that's 0.2 overall, not per 100k

Lockdownbear · 05/02/2022 21:45

@ElephantOfRisk

I saw that as well and thought surely that can't be right.

Children's nightwear is no longer allowed to be made of flammable material - remember Ester Ransend That's Life having a campaign on them. And showing a nighty go up in flames. But you can bet they'll be kids who were badly burned or died as a result, which will have triggered the campaign in the first place

Halloween outfits are often highly flammable thought.

Lockdownbear · 06/02/2022 00:10

That's crazy, but remember the Irish guy who said Lock-downs don't work.

Remember BJ and one of his initial speeches, I can't remember his exact words, but basically, people will get ill and people will die. Before his U turn and decided to lockdown.

Did Sweden or somewhere not try to ride it out without locking down?

ElephantOfRisk · 06/02/2022 00:38

Yes Sweden and Florida both done no worse and in some ways much better with no hard lock downs.

mibbelucieachwell · 07/02/2022 10:32

Dammit I'm too nice. I'm on a train going through England, enjoying not wearing a mask, sitting opposite a guy not wearing a mask. Another chap, estimated age 60 has just sat opposite me wearing a mask. So I've put mine back on in case he's worrying about getting covid.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/02/2022 11:11

Ha I always do the same mibbie - pop mine on if someone looks worried.

Not feeling it today, dh still banged up due to covid despite managing to work fine throughout, drowning in admin, dog is teething and work going bananas as I've had two weeks off having a jolly relaxing time with an increasingly disregulated child locked up due to covid. Thank goodness she could go back to school today, she was delighted.

The only way is up hopefully!

mibbelucieachwell · 07/02/2022 11:27

You've had a long haul of it @mapleleavesreturn

I didn't know dogs had teething probs.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/02/2022 12:21

It is strange the puppy is an angel and then when the tooth pain hits he has to chew constantly, jumps and lurches up at people and tries to bite everything!

He is calmer today so fingers crossed it is abating!

WouldBeGood · 07/02/2022 12:42

My setter used to chew the washing on the line, and the hem of my dresses @mapleleavesreturn!

My rail is about my knee pain, which is likely a product of lockdown. Spoke to the consultant today after having to get a private MRI as the NHS told me rubbish. Anyway, it’s a bone bruise, hence why so sore, and he says he’s seen an epidemic of these since lockdown. He’s not sure if it’s been getting back to exercise after, or general poor health , and therefore bone health, but loads of people have these injuries.
Frankly I’d rather have had Covid! It’s been painful since august and could take three to six months to heal.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/02/2022 12:51

A knee bone bruise? That sounds absolutely horrible would, perhaps he prescribes a trip somewhere sunny pronto?

Chewing the washing? I'm glad that hasn't happened yet!!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/02/2022 21:23

Glad that you now know what the problem is @WouldBeGood after that rubbish physio diagnosis. Sounds sore though!

runningpink · 07/02/2022 21:38

Is Nicola back on tomorrow does anyone know?
