@WouldBeGood

And, astoundingly, apparently Pete Wishart has said it’s a fair point that Johnson might have got it right on Omicron.

I’m off for a lie down

OMG 😲 Fair Play to Pete Wishart actually saying that BJ might have got it right.
Scottishskifun · 20/01/2022 19:22

Wonder if he got a rant phone call from Sturgeon for that one.....

Haudyourwheesht · 20/01/2022 20:21

Pete Wishart is one of the few SNP MPs that doesn't seem to just toe the party line. I wouldn't be surprised if he steps down soon too, along with a lot of the others of his 'generation'.

titsintiers · 20/01/2022 20:37

Checking in for the moaning.

I don't have a rail tonight, might go and lie down.......

WouldBeGood · 20/01/2022 23:36

Aaargh! One of ds’ school pals tested positive. No symptoms, because of this stupid testing. Ds negative lft. What’s supposed to happen?

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 21/01/2022 00:42

If hes positive he has to isolate but unless hes stayed with you your family wont be close contacts so be vigilant and look out for it.

I think anyway check the websites it rules change too often
Fingers crossed you don't take it

rookiemere · 21/01/2022 07:05

Oh nightmare @WouldBeGood , or is it ? I have no idea on the actual rules any more, maybe read Englands and assume we're three weeks behind anything that's said.

RaraRachael · 21/01/2022 07:41

We have families st school this week where one child has tested positive but the others are still attending school.
I can't keep up with the rules. Easier to assume we're not allowed to do things that England are because "We must be cautious and keep people safe" Angry

Lidlfix · 21/01/2022 08:12

Wouldbe if your DS is negative (and even if he'd had a sleepover as Rara points out siblings testing negative don't even isolate under current guidance) he can go about life as normal. If contacts isolated again, classrooms would be totally empty instead of 2 or 3 off per class.

From DD4's experience she was worked with the person we assume she contracted it from on the Thursday and didn't test positive till Tuesday. She was pretty sick from Saturday but not classic symptoms and tested negative until the Tuesday afternoon. So maybe be observant for him just being under the weather.

MarshmallowFondant · 21/01/2022 08:21

Checking in for another rail/rant.

The masks thing is doing my head in, England dropping them again in all settings, here we still have to wear them everywhere. Nobody is pulling them up on masks in schools AT ALL.

As for the GP thing - does anyone in Scotland have a way of contacting their GP which is not phoning up?? Lots of MN posters in England appear to have video calling etc - we have none of that. We can't even email the surgery. It's still locked up and you are not allowed over the doorstep unless a receptionist in PPE lets you in.

StarryEyeSurprise · 21/01/2022 08:33

It's so dependent on the GP though. I was on holiday and a GP registered my son and saw him within an hour whereas here ( NL) they advise we need to wait a few days or take to A and E if urgent.

WouldBeGood · 21/01/2022 08:34

Thanks all. Just a school pal, no sleepovers. It’s buggered some stuff up as it’s my ex’s boy’s big birthday today and they were going to see him but he’s due to fly to US at end of week so can’t risk it. Shame.

This all really needs to stop!

And the bloody masks

shouldistop · 21/01/2022 09:57

Just reading on a thread there someone saying that if someone was truly mask exempt then they shouldn't have been chatting in the aisle of a plane 'spraying their secretions everywhere'.

Do you think people realise how ridiculous they sound now.

RaraRachael · 21/01/2022 11:13

Our GP surgery has been excellent throughout all this carry on. We fill in an econsult form, then you get an email or phone call back from a doctor. I got a prescription for painkillers and a physio referral as mine was a problem that didn't need to be seen by a doctor. OH had a face to face appointment as his was more serious.

Today I couldn't find my way out of a shop because my glasses had steamed up because of the fucking mask. So I had to either take the mask off or take my glasses off to clean them, rendering me without much vision. Why is nobody, apart from the faithful on here, making a fuss about this - especially in schools?

patritus · 21/01/2022 11:28

Thanks for new thread @WouldBeGood
New thread new nameSmile

Our GP still has a phone message and overlay on website all about limitations due to covidHmm
Door is still locked and buzz to get in. Only way to contact is by phone (unless repeat prescription) so receptionist can triage your issue.
We're lucky we've rarely had to use them recently.
Default still seems to be phone or video appointment 1st and then they'll decide if need seen.
Which just caused 2 appointments and delay of a week recently with DD2. I knew she would need examined but we had to take up a video appointment 1st🤷🏼‍♀️

patritus · 21/01/2022 11:36

But on positive note we can make appointments in advance.
We don't have to do this ridiculous only phone at 8am and take what you can get unless it's urgent

Mojoj · 21/01/2022 11:43

It's all political posturing now. So over it. We should be opening up and getting on with it now. All our restrictions over Christmas and New Year didn't reduce transmission rates lower than England. But it probably put a few more pubs etc out of business.

mapleleavesreturn · 21/01/2022 13:04

I quite like phone appts for some things, it saves time if it doesn't need to be seen but it's definitely less effective for some things.

The variation in GP surgeries is broader than the variation in schools - our surgery is great and never failed to get appropriate help for us or the children, it's a disincentive to move based on what I hear from others!

I'll be honest I just dropped an excerpt from The Telegraph into the Covid section just to get a reaction from same types......

I do wonder how these people survived pre 2020 when not only did perfectly healthy people regularly talk to you without covering their face, but occasionally you might even encounter a person with an actual cold 😲. Yet somehow the human race survived. I think in a few years once we're used to living without masks and distancing again some of us kicking and screaming people will look back and be slightly embarrassed at the way they treated others for the heinous crimes of not covering your face or sitting next to someone. Thankfully we're already seeing people look back at the taped off play areas and fines for sitting on benches in parks or walking in a secluded piece of countryside more than 5 miles from your house and thinking that was patently absurd and should never have happened.
WouldBeGood · 21/01/2022 15:41

I don’t mind a phone appointment but don't understand why you can’t make them in advance, like a normal appointment.

The cynic on me says the GPs like it as it puts people off coming to see them.

OP posts:
patritus · 21/01/2022 16:19

I know it's ridiculous the way some health centres can only make same day appointments.
Keep ringing at 8am every day until you manage to get an appointment (usually at an inconvenient time) for something quite routine 🤷🏼‍♀️
It's not just since covid either. Couple of my colleagues have had this situation for last few years.

My GP has always offered bookable telephone appointments and can work well in some situations. You know they will ring at 11.30 next Tuesday

mapleleavesreturn · 21/01/2022 17:01

We get bookable phone appts too - 3 hour window but that's fine, where am I going these days...

Hmmm you ought to be able to check out gp surgery ratings when investigating an area.

shouldistop · 21/01/2022 17:08

Our GP is moving to an on the day service which won't work for me at all.

2022HereWeCome · 21/01/2022 20:17

Really hard to get a GP anyway in Edinburgh. So many lists are closed.
