I think there was talk of an update @runningpink? Really hope she sees sense. I was at work today and universal that the restrictions are now stupid.

Thanks for the knee sympathy - I feel vindicated that I’ve not just been a wimp at least!

Yes @runningpink, update to Scottish parliament tomorrow.

Useless says “we’re through the worst”… is change coming? Will we be able to stop railing and get out?!

OP posts:
runningpink · 08/02/2022 09:52

Let’s see what today brings.

Everyone I speak to has just had enough now

I feel like we will need a railing thread for every day things if/when we don’t have this to rail about anymore.
I would miss you guys and all the railing and support!

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2022 10:08

Finger cross masks go in schools. Yes everyone has had enough of covid restrictions..

Becoming harder to justify when other countries are also casting restrictions aside.

username2020 · 08/02/2022 10:46

what's happening with useless and the nursery case?

Scianel · 08/02/2022 12:20

Railing about Sauchihall Street. Hot on the heels of the news of M&S closing that branch, Sports Direct has now announced it's doing likewise. While I'm not personally a fan, that is yet another large premises that's going to join BHS, Watt Brothers and M&S to lie vacant.

It's one of the main streets in the city centre and it's actually so depressing that I won't walk down it now. But the genius plan is to demolish Buchanen Galleries instead.

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2022 12:36

Sauchiehall Street has suffered for years. But the bit that really gets me is the town planning all of it was predictable.

People only have so much 💰 money. They only need x many pairs of socks (jeans, knickers, jumpers).

Big out of town centres can only take business from elsewhere, the city centres. They aren't going to generate more sales, they just takesales from elsewhere. The 3 main roads into the city have big out of town centres. Fort, Silverburn, Breahead
Why would people pass them to go to the City and pay extra in fuel and extra in parking?

Train / buses aren't cheap cheaper to use the car for two people than to get Train into town.

And then they wonder why so many people use cars. Office blocks are the same out of town, cheap rates but a bugger without a car. Then they moan the roads are too congested.

Scianel · 08/02/2022 12:44

Totally, just such a complete lack of thinking. A train for two people is a fortune compared to the little bit of petrol to get you to one of the large shopping centres.

And then the more things close and the crapper it gets, the less of a draw it is to come in and make an afternoon of it instead and the decline worsens.

It's a pity though as theoretically the city centre should be a good draw, it has some beautiful buildings (well, the ones that haven't yet burned down) and could really offer a lot but the overwhelming feeling at present is just grim, dirty, declining and depressing.

It's such a stark decline from the Commonwealth Games if I think about it. That felt like a real high point.

WouldBeGood · 08/02/2022 12:49

It’s going to get even worse with the plan to ban cars which don’t comply with emissions law happening.

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 08/02/2022 12:55

The city should be a real draw but its not. Buchannan Galaries is ideal beside the bus station & Queen St.

But it's all chains, John Lewis, Lakeland and the Lego shop are about the only shops you won't find outside the city centre.

So what's the point?

Scianel · 08/02/2022 13:36

WouldBeGood another genius idea. They're making it almost impossible to drive to the city centre but over the last decade most of the new housing on the outskirts has been built in areas with little to no public transport. Make it make sense please!

So what's the point?

This, unfortunately. If I need to stock up on leggings/pants the easiest is to nip to Braehead. If I want a nice wander about and a coffee and cake it's the West End.

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2022 14:45

Then throw in the Internet, if you're looking for something special it used to be worth a trip to Glasgow to browse JL, Debenham and Frasers.

Now I'd nosy online before deciding if JL have anything I think I'm interested in.

They need to do a series bit of Town planning to put life back into Sauchiehall St and they need to be careful Argyle St doesn't go the same way.

I think flats up Sauchiehall St wouldn't be a bad thing. Get people back living there.

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2022 14:59

Arrr masks have to stay in schools wtf! Seriously wtf it feels like punishing kids for laughing at the doors suggestion.
Wtf

GoldenOmber · 08/02/2022 14:59

So after that announcement: everything’s looking better with the figures, but nothing is changing except we won’t do case numbers at weekends any more? urgh.

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2022 15:02

Primary schools can drop the bubbles and end staggered starts - thank goodness!

Scianel · 08/02/2022 15:12

I honestly don't know what it'll take for them to get rid of masks, they're obsessed with the damn things. The psychological impact of seeing everyone still muzzled is huge and that's not even factoring in the physical discomfort of the things for people that have to have them on for significantly longer than a quick shopping trip. Poor kids.

GoldenOmber · 08/02/2022 15:23

The year is 2437. All human disease has now been eliminated, everyone gets a free hoverboard and humanity has colonised Mars. Meanwhile in Scotland, where many MSPs died of old age bickering about HEPA filters, the government has announced that masks will stay for another 3 weeks and adverts are still telling us that it’s safest to limit the number of people we socialise with.

WouldBeGood · 08/02/2022 15:30

Aaaaaaaargh!!

This is just stupid now. What exactly are they waiting for?

@GoldenOmber I’d laugh if it wasn’t so likely to be true !

OP posts:
IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 08/02/2022 15:44

I think it's so stupid that the education board which decides about masks seems to meet at the same time that the FM does her update to parliament. It means that any change won't come for three more weeks surely.

runningpink · 08/02/2022 16:32

I’m starting to feel like we need to revolt and just not wear masks.
Not sure I’m brave enough on my own though annoyingly

Been doing it for weeks. Nobody bats an eyelid.

Yes why do our adverts still sound like it's March 2020 from the tone. All hail Denmark frankly !
Scianel · 08/02/2022 16:39

I haven't worn a mask for almost a year now. No hassle whatever, although tbf I'm not out much and I do wear a lanyard if I'm by myself.

runningpink · 08/02/2022 16:48

Where I live i’m pretty sure I would get grief for being unmasked.
I might start doing it when I’m in the city though until I feel brave enough at home

We need a Scotsnet meet up to embrace being maskless! 😂

GoldenOmber · 08/02/2022 16:55

Am particularly grumpy about things like masks because it feels like they’ve taken public goodwill for granted.

“We told you these would help for the crisis we were in, so you all went along with them despite varying levels of inconvenience and faff and discomfort and mostly without complaint. Thanks Scotland! And now you’ve done that, we’ll take it as proof you all like masks and won’t mind wearing them until the end of time.”

Remember when it was 6 weeks for the secondary schools? Poor kids.
