Will it ever end?

@WouldBeGood - the pharmacist wouldn't prescribe anything because I don't have conjunctivitis. All opticians are refusing to see me because they say it is a minor issue that should resolve over an (unspecified) amount of time. I asked the GP what other options there were - she said none - I did query this pointing out that quite a lot of patient information sites including the NHS / eye hospitals say to approach your GP after 2-3 weeks if things were getting worse to consider oral antibiotics. And she said that was 'unhelpful' information.

2022HereWeCome · 02/02/2022 11:17

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 - I've gone private for a few things over the years - route in does depend though - always worth a call to the centre. If I had my time again I would take out private health insurance .

I went to Harley Street once for a test that was unavailable on the NHS and it was the best money I ever spent (wasn't huge amount considering). the care and compassion and respect with which I was treated and the fact I got 30mins with a consultant who listened was worth every penny.

mapleleavesreturn · 02/02/2022 11:37

I know that we've said it before but it's a shame there is such huge GP surgery variation - mine saw me face to face for a minor but painful issue last week despite having covid as they just couldn't see it well from the photos and my bad descriptions.

I've gone private for dentistry thanks to covid and a few things for the DC too - I bet that's another untold story of covid, surge in private healthcare purchasing.

mapleleavesreturn · 02/02/2022 11:40

not to mention (thumps tub) all the parents I know trying to buy private MH help for their DC as the state help is so poor/non existent.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/02/2022 11:46

That sounds awful @2022HereWeCome I realise that really lucky with my GP surgery and my opticians.

Can you get another phone consult with the sympathetic GP? Beg & plead for an in person appointment for someone to see your eye, really play up on pain/sleep/exhaustion/impact on well-being, and/or beg for a referral to eye hospital?

Scottishskifun · 02/02/2022 11:52

@WouldBeGood

I wonder who has made this decision and on what evidence?

Much like all their decisions, in fact

So the evidence for risk to pregnant mothers especially in the third trimester is very much there I think at one point 1 in 5 in ICU was an unvaccinated pregnant woman.

But I do not agree with this policy whatsoever! They should be taking the time to provide information and assist women not penalise them especially the amount of scare mongering which has gone on around vaccines and pregnancy in the early days.

Getting private insurance was the best thing we ever did, it's saved us several times when the NHS just didn't want to know. I learned early on that there are treatments that are available, and then there are treatments available on the NHS which all too often are the cheaper but inferior ones (and you wait an age to get them). The conversation with a GP about what can be done often shifts once you mention you are willing to pay for it. Throw in COVID and for many of us, we really do have a third world level of health care right now where anything short of an emergency and you're turned away (often, not in all cases I know). It's so short sighted as well, because how many of these complicated and serious cases would be much easier to treat if they'd been dealt with thoroughly and in good time in the first place?

2022HereWeCome · 02/02/2022 12:34

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us - I agree totally. My dad is diabetic and has had awful chilblains this year. He was fobbed off countless times by his GP practice (can't see you because of Covid) until surprise surprise the chilblains became badly infected and he is now under the care of the hospital podiatrist who is having to see him every week ... so much for early intervention and prevention.

Anyway my optician has rung me back - they will not consider a referral to the eye hospital until I have had this for 5-6 months and then I would be waiting for another 4 months! (Back to the going private idea). However, I have an appointment with an 'independent prescribing optician' next week who MAY be able to offer other options ...

2022HereWeCome · 02/02/2022 12:38

And I know the opticians are overwhelmed - but this is in part because the practice has a lot of older people on their books who have been terrified to go in for checks / tests etc because they were scared of omicron in Dec/Jan. Surely this is a failure of health messaging.

mapleleavesreturn · 02/02/2022 12:54

10 more months of pain? I wonder how anyone can think that's acceptable really 2022HereWeCome

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2022 13:26

@2022HereWeCome I’d write a letter of complaint to the surgery. Dear surgery, I am very concerned as I have not been able to get treatment for you fro an ongoing eye problem. Obviously this is a serious matter, as if left untreated it could impact vision or deteriorate further. I hope I will be offered an in person appointment as a matter of urgency and look forward to hearing from you.

Railing again because I now have a bizarre email from test and protect telling me they're sorry they need to reschedule my booster (I had to cancel because I had Covid). I have had no communication to tell me that they'd booked me in for a random venue / date / time - no wonder people miss their appointments. I was told at the time of cancelling I would have to ring to rebook ....go figure

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2022 20:13

I can’t actually believe this, is it a joke? SNP to cut the bottoms off classroom doors 🤣 £300,000

I saw that @WouldBeGood and can't quite believe it. Not sure this fits in well with fire regulations...

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/02/2022 20:51

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us my first thought was that they will do this, it'll make absolutely no difference to covid, then it will turn out to breach fire regs, and then it will be Boris' fault.

FFS spend the money on ventilation and in the interim maybe open the doors instead???

Tomorrowisanewday · 02/02/2022 20:53

I was just amazed Nicola Sturgeon was trying to claim yesterday (in answer to one of the other MSP's questions) that the £5,000,000 fund was sufficient to provide mechanical ventilation upgrades to all schools.......

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2022 21:07

Why don’t they just stop stressing about people getting Covid? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lidlfix · 02/02/2022 21:17

Someone witty on Twitter suggested that SQA could make "plan B" for N5 Practical Woodwork modification of doors. Grin

ElephantOfRisk · 02/02/2022 21:34

Oh I love that @Lidlfix.

I guess on a positive note, if there was a fire they could drop to the ground for safety and crawl under the door.

Lidlfix · 02/02/2022 21:36

Plan B for Maths -calculate the dimensions of the new doorstops?

ElephantOfRisk · 02/02/2022 21:46

Plan B Physics, calculate the difference in the travel of noise between propping a door slightly ajar and having a chunk cut off the bottom.

ElephantOfRisk · 02/02/2022 21:47

Plan B Modern studies, how far can the government push nonsense on the population before they get voted out?

WouldBeGood · 02/02/2022 21:58

🤣🤣

Scottishskifun · 02/02/2022 22:29

Dear God hoe much time was wasted costing something which is clearly a breach of fire regs.......ironically in the qeek that they changed the fire alarm requirements......Hmm
Could not make this stuff up in terms of incompetence!
