The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us I don't know if it's all GPs or just mine......
I eventually got my appointment after a rather direct phone call with the manager which I explained the number of negative tests I had and you only had to open my notes to realise what I was coming in for! I offered a car Park examination if they preferred.....

GP was full suited and booted just incase (despite negativetest proof)..... was told they are reducing the number of face to face appointments from now.....which is ironic as you could barely be seen in person in the last 2 years as it was!

I get it's terrible for practices if staff then off isolating and creates a shit storm but surely there has to be some balance not covid is the only illness which exists!!!

Mistressiggi · 21/12/2021 13:46

I am railing in advance as I am about to head to Primark for some Christmas shopping and it is going to be awful Xmas Sad

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 21/12/2021 14:20

Checking in to moan about the fact she wants Parliament to sit during christmas and new year.

Have a fucking day off will you 🤦‍♀️

HarrisMcCoo · 21/12/2021 14:23

Really disappointed to receive an email that a show we had booked for DS3 has been postponed 🙄 it was meant to be happening January, now postponed til March. All because of Covid.

ecceromani · 21/12/2021 14:28

That's probably because they've already decided to bring in restrictions for new year but need to put it to parliamentXmas Confused
shouldistop · 21/12/2021 14:28

@HarrisMcCoo it must be the same show that we had tickets for.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/12/2021 14:46

We had concert tickets for the week between Christmas and New Year. The only real 'event' we've been to in close to 2 years. Sturgeon's just cancelled it hasn't she?

Scottishskifun · 21/12/2021 14:49

Afraid so! Max 200 indoors seated.

frasersmummy · 21/12/2021 15:01

I just want to rail at the fact that there is never any optimism.. Jason Leitch says oh yeah deaths and hospitalisation.. have fallen but that's the end of the delta wave .. its gonna go back up

ffs why cant they say hey its 4 days to Christmas and deaths and hospitalizations are down so thats good news as we head into christmas

Is it really too much to ask our government to stop spreading doom and gloom after all this time

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/12/2021 15:08

FFS. I know I'm supposed to be grateful for the crumbs she's sending, like 'not intending' to close schools and still being able to go round to see people and go out to restaurants. But almost two years in when most of the population are triple jagged, COVID hospitalisations are falling several weeks after the omicron wave supposedly started and case numbers are stubbornly refusing the shoot off out of control, I'm mostly just pissed off. They've done nothing to bolster the health service in advance of this, and seem more interested in whining about 'powers' and 'funding' from Westminster than in actually sorting things out that are under their remit.

Do we know whether the household limits in hospitality are actually law, or just a suggestion like isolation and visiting other people's houses?

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 15:18

I fucking hate her

OP posts:
shouldistop · 21/12/2021 15:18

So that's the Irn bru carnival cancelled too?

How can this be happening for a second Christmas in a row? I feel so sad for my eldest Sad

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 21/12/2021 15:28

Now whatever happens she's going to say it's because the government stepped in.

Cases go down because we have all been infected oh what a good job we done. Journalists lap it up. Opposition dismissed.

Oh just fuck it all. I hate what my country is becoming.

ElephantOfRisk · 21/12/2021 15:30

Yep, and if they don't go down, well then it's just as well they stepped in or think how bad it would be...

mapleleavesreturn · 21/12/2021 15:31

No household mixing from 27 Dec at all and stay at home - so how long has household mixing been allowed before taken away again? Doesn't feel like very long...

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 15:32

Really?? No household mixing??

OP posts:
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/12/2021 15:35

Absolutely @IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021. Omicron turns out to cause much less severe disease and she takes credit for 'saving the NHS'. If the NHS does come under strain she'd have liked to further but nasty Westminster refused. Businesses go to wall in their thousands because of this (and she freely acknowledges that the funding she has is not enough) and it's Westminster's fault for not reinstating furlough. Whatever bullshit she comes out with will be reported verbatim without any significant challenge, and her supporters will lap it all up.

I am now really hoping that Westminster doesn't cave and do similar, and that omicron remains under control in England (as is increasingly expected), just to highlight how unnecessary this all is. And I hope the businesses who suffer remember who did this to them. I had hoped that Westminster not giving funding would prevent the mass cancellations like this because the damage to business is well known. I never expected she'd just bloody do it regardless and to hell with the consequences to business!

shouldistop · 21/12/2021 15:37

I don't think she said no household mixing?
mapleleavesreturn · 21/12/2021 15:38

Hmm maybe I've extrapolated too far from the limit social contacts and stay at home as much as possible post Dec 27.

Who knows what law and what's not these days wouldbegood

I can't watch it - I just went to the bbc recap and caught 10 seconds of Harvie, quite enough!

mapleleavesreturn · 21/12/2021 15:39

Still the same stale strategy of paying people to stay at home rather than a long term plan to address nhs underfunding.

rookiemere · 21/12/2021 15:39

I've had a look on the BBC and whilst she's recommending "restricting" your mixing after 26th December, I can't see any specific guidelines or regulations about it.

mapleleavesreturn · 21/12/2021 15:44

Yes sorry I've seen stay at home and panicked but there is not much behind it. Sorry for the fake news!

ColdNovemberRain · 21/12/2021 15:44

This. 100 x this. I can't take the stream of bad news and finger wagging. I consider myself to be a sensible and intelligent person. I know that difficult decisions have to be made but I do feel that as a society we need some hope to incentivise us to keep going now.

I was yelling at my screen when she mentioned all the service cancellations due to sickness and isolations - that's because there are perfectly healthy people prevented from leaving their homes. Test and release is surely better than whole household lockdowns.

Part of me is relieved to have answers rather than the anxiety that's been hanging over me for days but I'm also just so tired and fed up.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 21/12/2021 15:45

Yip @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us she does not give a fuck about real people.

I am seething today. They are getting a pay rise meanwhile gas and electricity prices have doubled and the cost of everything is going up.

I wish every single person that works in public service just down tools and said no fuck this we can't sustain the level of pressure you are putting on us. (I don't really want that but just getting it off my chest)

If 2 years into this the best you have got is oh no it's getting bad again just shut it all then you can step aside.

The data is good. I know not fully conclusive yet but encouraging. Stand up there and fucking admit it's your policy choices that have us in this mess.

God what a sad state of affairs

rookiemere · 21/12/2021 15:47

I have to say I am relieved that there doesn't appear to be any move to close down accommodation.

A work colleague has a trip with his family to Aviemore postponed from last year starting on 27th December and I'm almost more concerned that he gets that trip than anything else. He's not from the UK so they were all very excited about the thought of snow and had booked some activities up there, so fingers crossed it still looks possible for him.

I'm a bit like one of those hostage victims who is a bit brainwashed by it all. I was expecting full lockdown from 26th December so anything less feels like a bit of a bonus Grin, but I do agree it seems knee jerk and disproportionate.
