The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

@rookiemere does the letter have an online login option to change appointments?

If so then in a few days this should also give a option to see vaccinations and you can request a letter with it.

I think France should drop it soon, Germany just has and omicron is taking off in France regardless (actually more recorded cases in a day then UK). So I hope they will backtrack soon given some of the larger resorts of their ski industry Brits make up a large percentage and their season was closed last year.

Bavarois · 31/12/2021 16:38

NHS GGC have just dropped to essentials visitors only, including maternity, from Wednesday 5th Jan. FFS it does feel like we're going backwards.

ecceromani · 31/12/2021 16:40

I have a sneaking suspicion it's political rather than entirely omicron related with France Hmm

TeenTraumaTrials · 31/12/2021 16:41

That's DS had his too. He wanted to wait until Monday but we were keen to get it asap so he has as much protection as possible when schools go back. Left it until later in the afternoon so any side effects hopefully won't hit before the bells. The vax centre wasn't busy although a steady stream of young teens coming in.

We're like you rookiemere hoping to be able to get away somewhere in Feb now he's double jabbed.

Advice on getting proof of vaccine

My DH is convinced its a political move rather than anything else.

We've just re-booked our France trip for later in the season fingers cross they do drop the restrictions soon.

rookiemere · 31/12/2021 16:56

Thanks @Mistressiggi I found a link and it looks for under 16s as if I need to ring up to request it, so I'm going to hold off as some countries want a letter that's less than a couple of weeks old.

Mistressiggi · 31/12/2021 17:01

Oh, I didn't realise that sorry - I'll be in the same boat have never had a letter for him containing a username I could use to request vaccine status.

BeanMachine · 31/12/2021 17:27

I'm delurking to chip in about under 16s and proof of vax: we are in a similar ski trip position (Italy, in our case, postponed from this week to March) with a 12yo DD.

I registered her for the Scottish vaccine passport thingy a few weeks ago, without any difficulty, so she has that on her phone. Then we dropped in to get her 2nd dose a couple of days ago and that's already on the app. I was also able to retrieve her username on the vaccine portal website about a week ago, so it's on there too. They are finally catching up, it seems. Just need to hope the other stars align now and we get away later in the season...

As I'll probably go back to lurking now, I wish all you railers a good New Year when it comes! You all have kept me relatively sane since I discovered these threads! Nice to know there are like-minded folks about.

rookiemere · 31/12/2021 17:29

Brilliant thanks @BeanMachine - DS may actually have it on his phone already. DH has been to both of the vaccinations with him and couldn't remember if that was the case. HNY when it comes !

WouldBeGood · 31/12/2021 17:45

Happy New Year, @BeanMachine!

@BeanMachine any idea what the story is for 12yos who aren't fully vaccinated, and can't be because of the 12 weeks between having covid and second dose?

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 31/12/2021 18:18

how do 13yo get second jag in greater glasgow?

WouldBeGood · 31/12/2021 20:24

I’ve just been for a meal in England. The restaurant was bustling and the staff singing and happy. Town is cheery and full of people. No covid madness.

The SG has ruined things in Scotland.

There are loads of Scots here too. Old and young.

To be fair, I've just been for a meal in Scotland in a bustling, friendly, lively restaurant. No singing but it was still early.
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 31/12/2021 20:32

That's kind of my impression too @Haudyourwheesht. Went to a packed exercise class earlier, shops are bustling and quite a few parties are planned if the trolleys in Morrison's are anything to go by, queues outside the cinema a few days ago. Businesses might be suffering with extra restrictions (which is bad enough IMO) but people in general are very much living it up and enjoying themselves regardless of any 'advice' to stay at home and not socialise with anyone.

WouldBeGood · 31/12/2021 20:37

That’s great!

When we’ve been out recently it’s been a bit sad, and DP says Glasgow was dismal yesterday.

Really glad to hear things are going well.

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 31/12/2021 21:05

I've seen both sides, I've been out in places where there have only been a few tables occupied, one in Glasgow a couple of weeks before Christmas, Italian restaurant in town with great deal menu on, it was really quite sad. But then, i've also been in a couple where it's been busy with a bit of atmosphere. It's truly hit or miss.

I was on twitter earlier though and that's just farking depressing when you see the lack of intelligence and the general moronic behaviour that seems to be the only response from a certain faction of the gp when faced with anyone questioning NS and the crew. I think being on here and having views from (mostly) intelligent people insulates you from the reality.

Anyway, trying to cheer myself up before the bells but we've just decided to watch The Deer Hunter so maybe not cheery but should be a bit of escapism. DC have never seen it. We are trying to properly equip them for adulthood by making sure they have a sound grounding in the classics - we watched LA Confidential the other day Grin. Also got them both a copy of 1984 for Christmas. That's apparently the book that most people claim to have read but haven't.

ssd · 31/12/2021 22:01

I dont think places in Glasgow are busy, going by what i seen earlier.
Whereabouts are these busy places?

ssd · 31/12/2021 22:03

I'll tell you what's depressing me, the telly is even more shite than usual tonight.

Haudyourwheesht · 01/01/2022 01:44

We're in the southside. In the past we've headed into town for a Hogmanay dinner then got the train home but this year it didn't seem worth the hassle, so maybe that's what others did.

BeanMachine · 01/01/2022 01:49

@Lockdownbear I'm afraid I don't know the situation for those in-limbo youngsters. That was why I took a punt on getting our 12 yo her 2nd dose asap - I didn't want to have to deal with that problem.

However, I think the Scottish vaccine passport app also lists your official PCR tests, so I guess they might be official enough? It's in the "international" bit and comes with the linked QR code, so it should work, I guess.

We had a lovely un-covidy evening with friends and the kids are astounded at how late we let them stay up (well, the 9 y.o. is!). Happy New Year all!

Lockdownbear · 01/01/2022 02:07

Germany have just relaxed their Brit ban, I've no doubt France will follow in the next week or so.

ecceromani · 01/01/2022 02:19

@ElephantOfRisk
Cheer yourself up with The Deer Hunter.
