The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

DP broke off for a fortnight yesterday. If he thinks he'll be spending the foreseeable glued to the sofa, with the doofer in hand, zipping up and down the TV channels, I swear there'll be a fucking murder! All the uncertainty about further restrictions is getting on my tits and my temper's bubbling and I'm ready to erupt.

ssd · 19/12/2021 12:31

Go a walk , dont kill him

Justmuddlingalong · 19/12/2021 12:34

Dr bloody Zhivago's on. The repetitive music's going to tip me over the edge. 🤪

ssd · 19/12/2021 12:41

Fair enough, just make sure you have an alibi Wink

mapleleavesreturn · 19/12/2021 13:47

It is only speculation hopefully - mind you castle lights cancelled due to staff off with covid...I love dr zhivago, although it does go on!

mibbelucieachwell · 19/12/2021 14:18

My absolute sympathy @Justmuddlingalong . Nothing worse than a soundtrack if you're not watching the film. Maybe Santa could get Mr Justmuddling a set of Bluetooth earphones?

@shouldistop I really hope someone in the SG is aware of the hideous stress the thought of wfh/lockdown/schools being closed is causing. I don't think I'd have been able to comply with the rules when my DC were younger. It was quite hard enough already.

RaraRachael · 19/12/2021 14:48

Please, no more lockdowns or school closures. I had a weekend in Glasgow a few weeks ago and thought how nice it was to be fairly normal. Then we're back to square one. Is this what our lives are going to be like forever?

OldaRailer · 19/12/2021 14:51

I honestly think it will get much better very quickly. Flowers

alicesfavouritepen · 19/12/2021 14:57

I just can't see another lockdown happening. I predict a hairy December January and February in terms of services. Some localised school closures due to staffing and then actual normality by this time next year.

RaraRachael · 19/12/2021 14:57

Thanks OldaRailer. OH isn't very well atm and I think everything is just getting on top of me. I read somewhere that Omicron has all but fizzled out in South Africa. What I don't understand is the immediate scaremongering and possible plans discussed in the media. I don't think they understand the effect this can have on some people.

WouldBeGood · 19/12/2021 15:06

Provocation by Russian epic @Justmuddlingalong 🤣

I agree with @Lidlfix that teachers on sm don’t reflect the views of loads of teachers in real life. MN was mad full of the worried ones!

Railing from Embra where shops have the queues outside, yet the shops have barely any folk in them. No distancing in queues, so total nonsense. I feel for the staff who are on door duty like bouncers. Other than that it feels nice and buzzy, quite festive and a bit of normality away from the horror headlines. I really think the MSM need a finger wag right now, the anxiety is mostly driven by them and frequent tv appearances by politicians of course

mibbelucieachwell · 19/12/2021 15:15

I'm also trying to dare to hope that this will be a tall, but very pointy spike of cases too, with a fast drop in cases. If the SG mandates restrictions that go on and on my biggest problem will be my fury at them. I realise this probably makes me sound like a raving madman but they've been so incompetent, yet patronising for so long it's becoming unbearable.

OldaRailer · 19/12/2021 15:17

I think that sadly the effect on a big chunk of us is well understood but we are collateral damage in the last push to motivate the undecided to get a booster / vaccinated.
It's the only way I can explain it.

OldaRailer · 19/12/2021 15:21

I am avoiding reading any "news"!

ssd · 19/12/2021 15:24

Its everywhere though

shouldistop · 19/12/2021 15:44

Guys, baby ds has gunky eyes. He has a cold just now but his eyes are pretty minging. They're not red and don't seem to be bothering him so I don't think it's conjunctivitis. Should I just clean with cooled boiled water or should I put some salt in it maybe?

Haudyourwheesht · 19/12/2021 15:49

I think I'd just use cooled water if I were you, see how it responds initially.

readsalotgirl63 · 19/12/2021 16:39

And yet 50000 at Ibrox yesterday and a different 50000 at Hampden today but parents can't see their kids nativity play ?

readsalotgirl63 · 19/12/2021 16:41

Oops - cooled boiled water with a wee bit of salt @shouldistop

WouldBeGood · 19/12/2021 16:44

@mibbelucieachwell incompetent and patronising describes them perfectly

I took my DCs out for a lovely lunch in Glasgow in a place that’s normally booked out. It was still bustling, cosy and relaxed and DS has pronounced it his sort of place. Glad I made the effort, cheered me up a bit

That sounds lovely.
We went out to a coffee shop this afternoon. It was busy so I'm glad for the owners!
