The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

I dont see Boris Johnson being called names though? Whats he called, apart from BoJo, which isn't a name to me, its just an abbreviation?
Wee nippy and her nibs isnt an abbreviation, its designed as an insult, one on particular used for women. I dont see anything similar being used for Johnson, BJ is the closest insult I've seen and that was just used in jest. Wee nippy and her nibs isn't.

ssd · 21/12/2021 10:41

@WouldBeGood

Or our leader

See, I really need to stop dwelling on the fuckers 🤣

Aye me too. Its not doing my blood pressure any good. I'm off for a walk and a nice lunch today with pals. Clear the head and all that. Have a nice day everyone.
florafoxtrot · 21/12/2021 10:49

@ssd - 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Enjoy your lunch out!

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 10:50

I don't know anyone irl who respects Johnston at all. Sturgeon comes across far better as a person (though the bar is set soooo low by the PM.)

Personally I do find her more irritating in the same way I find family irritating compared with people l really don't care about who feel far away. I have already discounted clown Boris iyswim.
Anyway best wishes to all railers.

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 10:50

I'm off out at lunch time .Here's to the high street!

rookiemere · 21/12/2021 10:55

@ssd I've always avoided calling NS by anything that makes reference to her physical appearance, just as I have avoided making any comments about her not having DCs.

I didn't realise her nibs was sexist- I could also call a man his nibs. I'll just call her NS or Nicola from now on as I have done in the past.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 21/12/2021 10:59

The 'wee nippy' 'chief manny' stuff makes me cringe myself inside out, it's probably the main reason I only dip into these threads now.

mibbelucieachwell · 21/12/2021 11:00

Doris is my term for the PM. While Dominic Cummings was there it was Dim n Dom, or Dom n Doris.

Wee Nikki for the FM. John Ninny and Humza Useless. I'd say the FM is getting off lightly. As pps have said I would never refer to her as childless or to her physical characteristics other than her height. Hence wee. Which is a Scottish term and not intended to be insulting. That would be sexist.

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 11:03

I think if you are a Scottish government supporter then no a moaning thread is probably not a good fit.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 21/12/2021 11:12

I dunno @OldaRailer there's plenty to rail against in life, it's not specifically an anti-ScotGov thread is if?

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 11:14

Well it grew out of people moaning about Scot gov policy around covid then having other folk telling them off for moaning and threads degenerating somewhat.

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 11:15

I'll give credit where it's due. Booster programme was going well here for example. So I feel I'm well balanced but then don't we all.

OldaRailer · 21/12/2021 11:16

Fair comment by SSD about her feelings but to drop in to essentially tell folk off for being " cringy".🤷

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 21/12/2021 11:16

I know Smile Surely we can have discussions about tangential issues though, without being told this might not be the thread for us? Not that I'm much of a scotGov supporter but I'm not at 'wee nippy lives to fuck over pubs' either.

rookiemere · 21/12/2021 11:22

I agree in theory with what @ssd has said. I don't think it strengthens any argument to refer to the FM by her physical appearance or gender. I also think there should be room for all on this thread provided we can keep it civ.

I just feel a bit hard done by as I'm generally careful to avoid derogatory or sexist terms Grin.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 21/12/2021 11:26

It's funny isn't it, I've been thinking about if I've ever heard a man he called nippy, and I don't think I have.

It's probably the Scottish equivalent of shrill or something, which is only used for women too IME.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 11:58

All rails welcome @BlameItOnTheBlackStar!

No political affiliation on this thread, each to their own.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 11:59

My favourite nickname for a politician is actually Keith for the hopeless Starmer

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 12:00

Oh! Now I’ve railed across all the political parties!

*Think railing against the Greens and Harvie can be taken as read.

Scottishskifun · 21/12/2021 12:16

I always refer to Nicola as NS, Borris as Borris usually because Although his initials I hate the acronym BJ regardless if a name or connotations and Humza as Humza

Doesn't make me pally about any of them nor can I be bothered to write out their full names!

Scottishskifun · 21/12/2021 12:19

So my rail this morning is about the receptionist refusing to book me in for my appointment despite being sat outside the GP surgery because I cannot answer their questions to the level that they want as I have bronchitis and have done for a month so can't say I don't have a respiratory illness......

Now awaiting a phonecall back from the practice manager......its taken 4 telephone assessments 2 rounds of antibiotics and many negative tests to even get this sodding face to face appointment!

shouldistop · 21/12/2021 12:27

@Scottishskifun oh fgs that's ridiculous!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/12/2021 12:49

Are these the new guidelines to protect GPs from respiratory illnesses? What exactly are patients supposed to do if they do have a respiratory illness then, COVID or otherwise? Sod off and suffer quietly in a corner? That's exactly the kind of thing we usually have to see a real life person for (so they can listen to your chest, look in the throat etc., sometimes check oxygen levels), and I can't imagine that can be done safely over the phone.
dementedma · 21/12/2021 12:51

The New Year party in Trafalgar Square has been cancelled so guessing the Edinburgh one will be too?
If nothing else it will save hospitals and paramedics having to deal with a load of steaming drunks on top of everything else.

shouldistop · 21/12/2021 13:38

Railing that a show we'd got tickets to for ds1 has been cancelled Sad it was part of his Christmas and I know he'd have loved it.
