The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

I have to say I'm surprised that the Hogmanay event was ever approved . I don't know the numbers, but I'm not sure there's ever been a point in 2021 when putting 50k ( or however many it is) people together seemed like a good plan. TBH I think it would be sensible to cancel it if only because hospitals really don't need a bunch of drunken revellers descending in them, when lots of NHS staff are having to isolate cuz Covid.

I know it's devastating for the organisers and hoteliers etc. but seems like the least bad option to me at the minute.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 08:38

Wales has made outdoor sporting events behind closed doors again and she’s making noises about similar today.

I’m railing against the lot of them. I’m up to high doh with worrying about what’s going to happen. I have a few child free days and would really like to do something other than sit at home again. I can feel myself going nuts again.

And another union saying schools going back should be delayed, primarily because of the isolation rules.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 08:40

I think the pictures were leaked to stop more lockdown. Many of the Tories are properly against it and good to have BJ over a barrel. Wouldn’t even surprise me if it was he who leaked them!

*on the subject of lockdown alone I do agree with the evil bastards 😃

@WouldBeGood I hope you get away.

I think it's a good sign that Boris has said definitively that no new restrictions before Christmas-although doubtless her nibs will be on today wringing her hands and imploring us all not to see our loved ones on CD.

It seems to me ( with no expert knowledge obviously) that there's just not enough data to inform a decision either way, so waiting a few more days is absolutely the right thing to do. Each day that hospital admissions or ICU cases don't rise exponentially reduces the lockdown imperative. I've gone from thinking there's definitely going to be a lockdown post Christmas to 50/50, even mutterings about Hogmanay are good in a way as it suggests that just big events will be cancelled, not everything.

Obviously the big fly in the ointment is lack of staff due to over enthusiastic isolation policies and I don't think that will be changed quickly ( certainly not in Scotland).

2022HereWeCome · 21/12/2021 09:06

Joining this morning with a rail about 'lockdown by stealth'. I had theatre tickets for a show tomorrow - only thing DS and I were doing Christmassy - now received an email saying all shows are cancelled because cast having to self isolate for 10 days in accordance with the rules. By introducing this isolation rule they are in effect closing things down by stealth.

Definitely not moving my booster appointment forward - there is no point. I am going nowhere now and frankly systems should be in place to make it as easy as possible for people to get jagged near their homes... it's not like this is new.

2022HereWeCome · 21/12/2021 09:07

I suppose I'm not that scared of Covid any more. And I am now digging my heels in and refusing to be manipulated by the emotive language and guilt-tripping

shouldistop · 21/12/2021 09:11

Yes @2022HereWeCome we've had lots of classes at David Lloyd cancelled due to staff isolating.

rookiemere · 21/12/2021 09:17

Ah I'm actually relieved to know that's the rrason @shouldistop as I was worried that my favourite body pump class had hit the dust. Obviously the one with the v annoying male instructor who calls the participants "ladies" and divides us in two groups and makes us whoop, is still going strong. I expect he has the constitution of a cockroach.

ElephantOfRisk · 21/12/2021 09:46

Now riddle me this, all this stuff about masks and hospitality etc etc but, if this is sooooo scary, why hasn't action been taken on shutting up shop in care homes? Or have they stopped all visiting and I just didn't know it? Seems to be all about restricting what are likely to be healthy adults so obviously a different agenda than protecting the vulnerable?

Lockdownbear · 21/12/2021 09:53

@ElephantOfRisk I can only guess Care homes will be back to shitting themselves and reinstate restrictions without being forced too.
I also imagine people who know they are vulnerable should be triple jagged and will probably take extra precautions.

But then the really vulnerable are the people who think they are invincible and not vaccinated. Those are the people who could screw up the NHS.

ssd · 21/12/2021 09:57

I know I'm a loan voice here, well maybe not, thanks to the posters who agreed with my rant above...but really, all this 'her nibs' or 'wee nippy' is doing my head in , whilst its Boris this and Boris that. Like he's your pal, or something similar. I dont expect nicola sturgeon really gives a rats arse about me in particular but i would bet my bottom dollar your pal Boris wouldn't pee on any of his fans if you were on fire.

shouldistop · 21/12/2021 09:59

Boris is a funny enough name in itself Grin although I tend to call him BoJo or that dickhead and my husband knows exactly who I'm talking about

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 09:59

What puzzles me is why the mask pish is still a thing. Covid positives are rife in schools where people are masked all day. But the Twitterati love them. Hey ho. Onwards into more madness.

I also see that in other countries people have to pay for LFTs and that they are done by health professionals- might explain our high rates.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 10:01

@ElephantOfRisk I saw an awful picture of someone visiting his old mother in a care home, she was in a “pod” with a window, he on the other side of it. Just awful. Bit like the jail visits you seeing TV

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 21/12/2021 10:11

Boris isn't his name though is it? Is it not Alexander? I'm no fan, but then i'm not a fan of anyone they would replace him with either.

I think Johnston is just too common a name and I don't think people would immediately think of the PM if people used his surname. Whereas with Sturgeon it's immediately identifiable as is using Boris.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 10:21

I believe I referred to him as BJ, @ssd? 😃

He’s appalling. As we can see from even the darts and football crowds chants 🤣

In my view they’re all appalling and I rail universally

OP posts:
duvetdrama · 21/12/2021 10:24

I think they'll wait and see what happens with hospital admissions before deciding if schools can or can't go back.

Agree @ssd I hate all the nicknames for NS, always sounds so bitchy and detracts from any serious point that the poster is making. Resorting to nicknames makes the point way less credible in my opinion.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 10:28

I know it’s been done to death, but I never quite understand why it’s ok to call BJ names, but not NS.

My vitriol at the moment is mainly directed at her as she is the leader of my country and having the most impact on my life.

OP posts:
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/12/2021 10:29

It's a weird one because I really don't like Boris Johnston - he's just embarrassingly awful and never seems to quite know what's going on - and can't believe that the Tory party themselves haven't gotten rid of him yet (maybe they're lining someone up, who knows). But right now, my main source of anxiety is whether they will shut stuff down again (not COVID - I don't think many people are actually scared of that any more). Nicola has made it obvious that she desperately wants to shut everything down, whereas the only thing stopping her right now is that Westminster doesn't agree it's necessary and so won't agree to pay for it. So I find myself in the weird position of rooting for Boris to hold on, at least until this wave is over, just in case a lockdown enthusiast replaces him.

duvetdrama · 21/12/2021 10:30

I don't think it's okay to call either of them nicknames...Boris/Nicola etc are not nicknames 'wee nippy' is beyond cringey and shows ignorance in my opinion

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 10:31

I find myself there too @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us - I feel dirty 🤣

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 10:34

Fair rail then @duvetdrama.

I’ll be really happy when I don’t need to think about either of them, tbh!

OP posts:
ssd · 21/12/2021 10:34

BJ suits him better. I just can't stand the Boris this and that. I don't recall any other prime ministers being called Tony or Theresa or John. Its the fake chumminess , the we're all in it together with Boris i can't stand, like he's a loveable rogue. This man can't stand you, unless you are like him. Which I'm sure none of us are.
And if posters started saying what time is Nicola on telly today?. Or is Nicola asking westminster for money?, I'd be equally scathing. And I'd get pelters straight away and rightly so.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 10:37

I tend to say “herself”.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 10:38

Or our leader

See, I really need to stop dwelling on the fuckers 🤣
