The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

@shouldistop

Guys, baby ds has gunky eyes. He has a cold just now but his eyes are pretty minging. They're not red and don't seem to be bothering him so I don't think it's conjunctivitis. Should I just clean with cooled boiled water or should I put some salt in it maybe?
If you bf or still are then cleaned with a bit of this and a little drop.or 2 in the eye will clear it right up!
shouldistop · 19/12/2021 17:28

@Scottishskifun still bf but never got the hang of hand expressing. Wonder if I can latch him on at bedtime to start the letdown then kind of squirt him in the eyes Grin

GoldenOmber · 19/12/2021 17:35

We’re meant to be travelling down to England before Christmas to spend it with family there. Children so looking forward to it. I hate the constant stress of will it go ahead or not, will they ban “household mixing” or not, will we be allowed to use trains for “non-essential reasons” or not, will the train even be running if we are, on and on and on and on with multiple different dire yet vague warnings about lockdowns every day and aaaaaaargh.

Scottishskifun · 19/12/2021 17:43

@goldenomber I know what you mean qe are due to travel on Wed! I don't care if they change it once we have arrived we then will count as one household!

Just had to get DS tested today as well Xmas Confused he needs antibiotics I think but bloody Dr won't even do a video call without proof of negative test! Xmas Angry

frasersmummy · 19/12/2021 17:52

Jason leitch hints at more restrictions around the new year..
So they clearly have a fn plan..why not fn share it with us.. ns is always banging on about transparency and treating us like adults....when clearly the opposite is true

I'm.so sick of their..I know something you don't know shit..

ElephantOfRisk · 19/12/2021 18:18

Speaking of Drs. DH was telling me about a bloke who phoned his GP and got the standard story that he'd be 2 to 3 weeks for any sort of appointment as the GP was too busy. So, he decided to get a private GP appointment and was given a zoom call for the next day - with his own GP!

Lockdownbear · 19/12/2021 18:29

@shouldistop even a couple of drops of BM on a cotton pad will do it. Hope he's better soon.

I've concluded this will either blow over like a big storm in a tea cup and we'll be normal for new year or it will be full lockdown.
It won't be this middle of the road 3 folk can visit. It will be all or nothing.q

ElephantOfRisk · 19/12/2021 18:32

Yep, breast milk or cooled boiled water. DS2 had a blocked tear duct as a baby and this cleared it up, his eyes would sometimes be stuck shut after a sleep.

Breast milk best cure for eye issues. Clears it up quickly.

HarrisMcCoo · 19/12/2021 18:54

Like others getting really fed up hearing about it all now in the media. Either lockdown or don't. Why keep everyone hanging by a thread.

Lockdownbear · 19/12/2021 19:18

Beside the money aspect, I think one issue is they know if the lockdown before Christmas people will ignore big time, and once people have broken the 'rules' once its easy to do it second or third time.
The rules are impossible to actually police so they need individuals to comply willingly.

ssd · 19/12/2021 19:19

Id rather a lockdown for 2 weeks than this death by a 1000 cuts shite..pubs closing at 8, only serve alcohol outside, next week something different, next week something different again, till we dont know our arse from our elbows and we're all fighting cos mrs x in no.25 got her haircut and they're shut now...

I so canny be arsed with all that again.

ecceromani · 19/12/2021 19:30

We have been pretty compliant with all restrictions, as have most people I know.
However all I'm hearing from friends and family now is they won't comply with restricted household mixing again.
And I won't either.

People were scared of getting covid last year but now we're triple jagged we're not scared anymore.
Because we have faith in the vaccines.
Gov can't have mixed messaging as it's very damaging. So they either tell us we're protected from serious illness by the vaccine or they tell us we're not🤷🏼‍♀️

Many of us are more worried about all the other effects of lockdown now

ResilienceWanker · 19/12/2021 19:39

I'm still not convinced there will be a full lockdown. Rishi has just given Nicola £200m and while that's great, it won't be enough to cover full furlough or compensate for closure of non essential shops/services etc. Unless she tries to do something without the compensation which I wouldn't 100% put past her, but I'm pretty sure she realises that's not feasible (and super unpopular, more to the point). And despite the rumours, I don't think BoJo will lockdown either, so there won't be pressure for furlough in England. And after Christmas will really be too late anyway.

Could be very wrong of course. In fact, now I've said that, there will be a national lockdown from tomorrow...

Definitely think we should try a nice meal out at some point in the next few days, just in case.

Iwantthesummersun · 19/12/2021 19:44

@Scottishskifun please don’t say teachers were prioritised for boosters up here. We weren’t. I’m 46 and only had mine last week. More than half of my colleagues have only just become eligible and will be waiting for another few weeks yet.

It was on the priority drop down list on the online booking form I don't know when it was added but it was at least mid November Xmas Confused

WouldBeGood · 19/12/2021 20:08

DD20 is getting her booster on Tuesday. Booked it this morning

Lockdownbear · 19/12/2021 20:11

I think they will only lockdown if the hospital numbers are really jumping up. I think by New Year they'll have a better idea of numbers, hence I think it will be all or nothing.

runningpink · 19/12/2021 20:24

I wish they would even set out what they are thinking for example

If X happens these will be the restrictions
If it reaches Y then these will be added on

But nope we are all left second guessing and panicking

Haudyourwheesht · 19/12/2021 20:29

@Scottishskifun I'm a (fairly elderly) teacher and due my booster on Wednesday. Earliest appointment I could get. Most of my dept colleagues haven't had theirs yet either so any priority list was very hush-hush.

shouldistop · 19/12/2021 20:39

I noticed teachers could book earlier than other people when I tried to book in November. I don't know why it wasn't advertised but the option was definitely there.

Iwantthesummersun · 19/12/2021 20:46

We could book for flu as a priority but not covid boosters. I was supposed to get my flu at the same time as the kids but the NHS changed this at the last moment. Could then book for flu vaccine online but not covid boosters.

WouldBeGood · 19/12/2021 20:46

DD got a letter on Friday inviting her to book and did so today, appointment near home got a convenient time on Tuesday.

Quite impressive!

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 19/12/2021 20:57

@Haudyourwheesht honestly it was definitely on the online booking priority list but incredibly frustrating if teachers were never bloody told!

DH as key worker who someone who goes into care homes wasn't on the list but then was saying teachers were it's how I knew.

OldaRailer · 19/12/2021 21:01

There is new availability for appointments online in our area and any drop in centre availability is mentioned on the NHS board Facebook page. We ended up doing a drop in this weekend and next week's bookings cancelled automatically.
