The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

@Lockdownbear

It's looking more and more like BJ has it right again. The NS over cautious approach is just destroying the economy and really wearing people down.
Yes, I read something that said if omicron was as severe as delta then there would be 90 people in hospital and there was only 15.

So could it be more transmissible but less severe and also the vaccines and prior infection give some protection? That would all be very good news.

Lockdownbear · 24/12/2021 07:09

Yes they seem to be forgetting that the most vulnerable are triple jagged.

Closing nightclubs just seems unfair, on both young people and the nightclub owners.
Let's not forget that even going to a pub is restricted to two hours, so young people are effectively having to pub crawl for a decent night out and the hassle of actually booking in the first place.

People in England have been free from restrictions for months. Giving their hospitality trade a decent run to make money, and giving young people a decent chance to be young people.

Maybe it's just some sort of hidden anti booze agenda.
Up there with the minium pricing that's made no difference and the reduced alcohol limit which again has made no difference to the accident statistics.
Could the SNP be friends of the Wee Frees?

rookiemere · 24/12/2021 07:16

Well Nicola's extra restrictions seem to be popular with some on these boards and also with a FB friend who I believe has some sort pf data job in the NHS. Rather patronisingly she has started a thread called "Ask me anything about covid" because clearly she's the world expert (I'm a massive hypocrite as I keep her as a friend for the amusement value). Someone asked if Boris or Nicola and Mark were doing the right thing and she said Nicola and Mark.

I don't think closing night clubs in the short term is the absolute wrong thing to do. It seems that Omicron spreads so fast that if it does cause the NHS to clog up, then nothing short of a full lockdown is going to slow the pace much. But I guess stopping indoor super spready environments is a tempting prospect for now when the figures are promising but could still go either way.

I just wish they'd be as quick to evaluate and adopt the reduction to 7 day isolation. It doesn't seem like that much of a gamble - maybe someone should tell her that the French do it as well as England- and would reduce pressure on staffing.

@Lockdownbear this is exactly what I think. I thought nightclubs would never re-open in Scotland at one point.

DH and I have both had texts this morning from Test and Protect telling us to book our vaccinations and boosters.

Which we've already had. Such efficiency.

I got a letter about 2 weeks after booking my booster

I've had this text twice now. Every time the 'NHS Test and Protect' sends my adrenaline soaring thinking I've been track and traced. I'm assuming it's just triggered by age, I had my booster in September through work.
MarshmallowFondant · 24/12/2021 09:54

But surely it's not beyond the wit of the NHS to cross check the details they have in their system against who has had the vaccine? I gave the same mobile number when I booked my appointment and they texted me on it. Hmm

Having said that, I am in an ongoing battle with Greater Glasgow and Clyde to get me off the list to send smear reminders as I no longer have a cervix for them to smear. Every few months an increasingly cross letter arrives asking me why I haven't booked an appointment.

Bavarois · 24/12/2021 09:59

@MarshmallowFondant There's just no time or resource to sit and do that, it'll just be an automatic message. I did roll my eyes myself when I got the text but it's not worth getting worked up about.

WouldBeGood · 24/12/2021 10:26

Can you block the number/opt out @MarshmallowFondant?

Looks like NS is now going to cut the self isolation period to the same as England, seven days, so that might help some people

We're due out of incarceration on 29th so I bet this new ruling starts the day after Hmm. She's really losing popularity now but sadly there aren't any elections coming up soon. Yet there are still people like a family member who think she's doing a great job of keeping us safe. Maybe we're fed up of safe now and want to live our lives.

Yes, as a PP asked, I'm a teacher and we seem to have had a lot of shit to put up with, as I know lots of other jobs do. It was this assumption that schools were safe places - well they're not as I'm sure that's where I caught it. We had a third of our pupils off in the last week. At least we only broke up yesterday so I still have over a week's holidays once I'm liberated. I would have been royally pissed off if this had been virtually my entire holidays.

duvetdrama · 24/12/2021 11:45

@WouldBeGood where did you see that? We are due out on Monday so won't be in time for that but interested to see what she's saying

Lidlfix · 24/12/2021 12:13

Anyone able to link or post a screenshot? We're released on 28th but would love to be to see DD3 or for DD2 to be able to see her BF.

OldaRailer · 24/12/2021 12:39

No railing here today.
Best wishes to all railers for Christmas. Xx

Lidlfix · 24/12/2021 13:16

Sadly, that was yesterday before the FM confirmed no change. Sad

Lockdownbear · 24/12/2021 13:23

When did England change it?
Are they doing the usual wait for England to be gunie pigs before deciding?

A simple fucking SQL script would save sending duplicate messages.

Money spent instead on apps…which then become useless as you close all the venues requiring a vaccine passportHmm

Happy Christmas to all railersWine these threads have kept me the right side of not going full on Michael Douglas in Falling Down, most days over the last year. Extra cheers to those with covid curtailing your festivitiesGinFlowersWine Xmas Smile

runningpink · 24/12/2021 15:01

I’m feeling rotten from my booster!

Hope everyone manages to have a nice Christmas even with isolation, plans changing etc

mapleleavesreturn · 24/12/2021 15:07

Merry Christmas!! Managed to find someone to take extra parsnips, phew!

Fingers crossed the glimmer of omicron light remains.

WouldBeGood · 24/12/2021 15:09
