The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

I was thinking you were due back soon @MaxNormal , hope you had a good trip.

ssd · 21/12/2021 23:11

Thanks @Scottishskifun, i didn't realise that.
TBH i don't either and I'm not testing before xmas anyway.

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2021 06:56

Its all confusing as it changes!

Basically as far as I can suss England if Omicron then household can now reduce isolation to 7 days with 2 negative tests. If delta then negative tests with regular lft if double vax.

But omicron is nearly dominant now so it will be the 7 days for England and 10 days for Scotland.

The cautious approach unfortunately is giving Scotland a battering especially economically.

MaxNormal · 22/12/2021 07:03

I did a hike in the Picos de Europa that I've had my heart set on for years. Blisters totally worth it.

Probably a good time to leave now though as I suspect outdoor masking mandates are rapidly approaching.

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2021 07:08

Safe travels back!
I'm so glad you have had a wonderful time away @maxnormal I found even a week abroad made a huge difference to my well being.

Lidlfix · 22/12/2021 07:39

Scottishskifun, any chance you can tell me where to find the info about the 10 days isolation being guidelines rather than law? We're are going to really struggle with food shops over our isolation and now need a Xmas dinner rather than our contribution to the family one.

DH hasn't been around DD as much as I have, would double mask and whizz round distancing all the while. Off course this is after negative PCRs. Apart from DD stuck in Her contamination cave we are still negative on LFTs.

rookiemere · 22/12/2021 07:43

@Lidlfix www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-test-and-protect/pages/who-needs-to-self-isolate/. At the top it says "advice" and says "should" in reference to self isolating, I think that's as good as you're going to get confirmation wise. But also who's going to stop you or report you ? Go early or late so it's not busy if you want to avoid most other people.

rookiemere · 22/12/2021 07:45

Isolation in England reduced to 7 days, wonder if we'll get the same doubt it.

ElephantOfRisk · 22/12/2021 07:51

I think I'm local to you also @lidlfix so am happy to help out with shopping if you need.

So DH's 7.30 breakfast meeting revealed his sector has been added to the "essential test and you're out" workers. A bit of a forgotten area of key workers as it's not sexy or cute, apart from DH Wink.

Which is great as he can combine a shopping trip with work. And the poor sod who was having to work his Xmas shift is also off the hook.

Elephant- how kind thank you. If anyone else tests positive I may need to take you up on that. Thanks

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2021 08:45

@lidlfix yes as others have said its "advised" it's not actually in law if negative constant testing but honestly they deliberately make it vague.

Get DH to go early or late to the shops (aldi usually restock around 7/8 which is handy) he's best doing it in the next day or so before the madness begins!

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2021 08:53

that’s good news @Lidlfix and for MrLidl, putting the sexy in sector 😃

If anyone does get stuck in, I used the services of kind people on various local Facebook groups last year to get shopping for old relatives in dark lockdown There are definitely some in Stirling and Forfar who were literally lifesavers.

Feel free if required @lidlfix, I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't happy to do it.

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2021 09:03

Aw, the railers are lovely really 😃

ResilienceWanker · 22/12/2021 10:14

So sorry to hear of the positive tests lidlfix and rara. What a nightmare! But yay to lovely railers!

On the self isolation front, ages ago I found this, which explains that self isolation, even for positive people, even if contacted by test and protect, has never been a legal obligation in Scotland. Its more of that non optional guidance. Which makes all the talk of exemptions for certain sectors a bit weird! Exemptions from what?! I mean, of course it's been clear that we should isolate under certain circumstances, and I suppose it's nice that they trust us to do so without being able to be fined or anything, but it does seem weird that we can be so fined for not wearing a mask on an empty railway platform, or a restaurant for not properly collecting our details, but not for going out knowingly with covid. But they know best, I suppose.

I'm railing against vaccines that make me feel worse than when I actually had the disease they're vaccinating against. Bah.

ResilienceWanker · 22/12/2021 10:19

Also, I'm still not convinced about schools. I was happy that they were "being prioritised" but then NS went on to say "and the best way everyone can ensure that they open as normal is to follow the guidance and limit the spread in the community" or something like that. So though she wants to prioritise schools opening, she made it clear that they may not. And that will be our fault. Which is nice. Angry

RaraRachael · 22/12/2021 10:54

Our schools don't break up till tomorrow so staff will have one day of "normality" albit before the latest restrictions kick in. I feel so sorry for those who had planned trips to pantomimes, football etc with their families. At least those who broke up earlier have had some normal time. But hey ho, we must follow whatever guidance we're given
masks will stop the transmission, getting double, triple, quadrupled vaccinated will help and repeat ad nauseam

Lidlfix · 22/12/2021 11:05

Having a wee grim chuckle as DH is asking me to "keep it down" and close the door while the washing machine spins as he's in a meeting with Public Health Scotland.

He's lucky I refrained from breakfast wine and karaoke Grin

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 22/12/2021 11:27

My 12 year just walked into the kitchen and turned my music down as she could hear it upstairs Grin

I feel like we've swapped bodies or something...

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2021 11:39

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar 🤣 mine do that too

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2021 11:41

@Lidlfix breakfast wine you say…? 🤔😃

I’ve been to my first ever spin class to try to lift my mood and exercise without hurting my knee. I was terrified but it was actually quite fun, though I think I’ll be sore ..

rookiemere · 22/12/2021 11:46

You feeling grim after your booster @ResilienceWanker ? I had a night of feeling sick and a day of being crabbit but seem back to normal now ( not quite so crabbit).

rookiemere · 22/12/2021 11:46

Well done on the spin @WouldBeGood Smile
