The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

Yep, I do. Feeling very broken. Made it to end of term and within hours 💔

ssd · 21/12/2021 19:46

Sorry.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 19:49

Oh, @Lidlfix 💐

Hugs to everyone self isolating. That's terrible Lidl, you've dodged it all this time.
I thought I'd read earlier that if triple vaccinated, one can leave isolation if they have a negative pcr and no symptoms . Ill try find it.

Lidlfix · 21/12/2021 19:58

DD is distraught blaming herself, in reality all 4 of us in the household are public facing. Could have been any of us.

DD3 trying to shop for us via FaceTime Grin she's nae domestic goddess.

Friends are being kind and offering booze shopping.?

duvetdrama · 21/12/2021 20:00

@StarryEyeSurprise ooh, if I you find that I'd be very interested too! Also isolating with a positive dd but am triple vaccinated and had a negative pcr

ElephantOfRisk · 21/12/2021 20:01

Aww just read about the last minute isolations. It really sucks. Just so gutted for anyone in this position and having to make tough choices.

Lidlfix · 21/12/2021 20:03

Starry, can leave to go to work if essential. Which I was until 1300 before it all went to shit.

Have warned DH that his meetings might see me singing karaoke with breakfast wine .

Will be interesting to see how infection pans out in my household, as the SG wants teachers to exempt themselves from isolation rules. So, what if I test positive on day 9? In term time that's a whole lot of pupils exposed...

HarrisMcCoo · 21/12/2021 20:04

@WouldBeGood

Thars my hotel in Edinburgh cancelled. They’re going to be shafted. Mine wasn’t for Hogmanay but they’re going to lose millions
That's rubbish for you but also a real shame for hospitality industry. How long must this go on 😥
ecceromani · 21/12/2021 20:05

@StarryEyeSurprise I think that's only in England.
In Scotland it is advisory that whole household isolates, but not compulsory

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/12/2021 20:07

Something else perhaps slightly more positive from the same article (hopefully won't get anyone upset..😉 )

"But Prof Paul Hunter, from the University of East Anglia, said the situation in England was slightly different to that in Scotland.
"It does seem to be the case that Omicron at least seems to be plateauing out in England, in a way that maybe it's not in Scotland. Until we understand that more it's difficult to suggest further restrictions," he told BBC Radio 4's PM programme.
England's case rate is currently higher than Scotland's - and Prof Hunter suggested that England might be closer to its peak than Scotland.
"South Africa had a very sharp peak but actually is now seeing a very rapid decline on the other side of that peak. One hopes we're going to see that in the UK.""

England may be close to peaking (I think there is specimen date data that supports this), and will hopefully have a short sharp peak and rapid decline like SA did. If it is then even after Christmas there would be little point in more restrictions. If Scotland follows the same trajectory we could be out of the other side very soon (as long as we don't drag it all out too much I guess), and maybe when NS says 'up to three weeks' she'll actually have to stick to it for once.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 20:08

Well, I’ll be upset as I can’t go anywhere then! 🤣

Yeah, absolutely shocking rule.

Sorry, I just looked there. I thought I'd read the rule I mentioned above on the BBC News site at lunch but can't find it. I thought they'd changed it.

Yeah, the rules regarding schools are completely backwards. Pupils are deemed low risk for giving teachers covid so, with cases in class, we must come to school until we test positive. Yet, people are contagious for 48 hours before they test positive. The mind boggles.

I hope the Lidl fam aren't too distraught, your poor DD.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 20:09

But seriously, here’s hoping

Ok thanks

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 20:12

It’s all so complicated!

Scottishskifun · 21/12/2021 20:13

Yep England if jabbed then it's a PCR if negative and agree to daily lft testing then no isolation.
Scotland is 10 days unless an exempt profession then its negative PCR test.

The confusing bit is the 10 days in Scotland currently isn't actually held in law so you can if you wish get the negative PCR and do the same as England.

OnceUponAWhine · 21/12/2021 20:40

Sorry @RaraRachael and @Lidlfix all this time to end of term too. All the 🍷 to you both.

MaxNormal · 21/12/2021 21:18

Last night abroad before coming back to join you all.
I'm relatively resigned to it all now, that the rest of winter may well be another pile of grimness. But I'm far less disrupted by it than many so I'm lucky in that regard.

I do keep seeing promising Omicron data, will be weird to see how it plays out if this has been a bit of a false alarm? Will people be relieved? Angry? Will it be spun that the restrictions did the trick?

OnceUponAWhine · 21/12/2021 21:25

A: Yes. This.

Xmas Angry
WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 21:25

Isnt it 10 days isolating for the rest of the family only if the positive person has omicron?

Scottishskifun · 21/12/2021 22:03

No not in Scotland was changed nearly 2 weeks ago to any positive covid case within a household.
WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 22:09

I shall remain stalwart in not testing.

I’m triple jagged and not allowed out anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️
