The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

@shouldistop

In one fell swoop we now have no plans for the holidays after Christmas. I was so looking forward to it this year Sad
Same here. Really thought we were moving forward with a positive step into 2022. Had booked tickets for the DC to go to different shows.

Looks like I will be stuck at home playing piano and not much else til schools are back. With the odd family walk thrown in 🙄 exciting stuff - have only been going walks for two years as my form of breaking up the day to shake things up.

HarrisMcCoo · 21/12/2021 17:37

Schools better be going back in January as planned. I can't do home schooling with three DC this time 😫

OnceUponAWhine · 21/12/2021 17:38

Note Boris has not imposed any further restrictions, just announced/confirmed. Meantime Wales will be finding companies who do not work from home where they can. Is it just me, or does power get abused in the nations?
It’s actually crazy to think we now have different rules AGAIN to England. I await the 27th when we’ll no doubt be finger wagged at not to travel or mix for Hogmanay.
Have fun @Scottishskifun you’re definitely heading in the right direction. @shouldistop so annoying, hope you can enjoy your evening when your friend arrives.

OnceUponAWhine · 21/12/2021 17:39

Er, fining not finding

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 17:40

Thars my hotel in Edinburgh cancelled. They’re going to be shafted. Mine wasn’t for Hogmanay but they’re going to lose millions

Have they cancelled?

Awful for them. Xmas Angry

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 17:54

The racing is cancelled so no point going. I think Edinburgh on 1st January will be pretty depressing!

Kshhuxnxk · 21/12/2021 18:26

Gutted. 2 nights away in Edinburgh with my sister who I've hardly seen in 2 years and both nights out cancelled. We may just go and get pished in the hotel though!

ssd · 21/12/2021 18:34

Oh christ go.

I would go anyway! There were exceptions for hotel bars for residents definitely worth having a catch up and some fun plus food you don't have to cook or wash up after!
rookiemere · 21/12/2021 18:44

Oh shush everyone, let's not draw attention to the fact you can still go to a hotel and enjoy a drink with someone < casts around nervously over shoulders >.

ssd · 21/12/2021 18:44

Exactly. Shops are open. Pubs and restaurants open. Go and enjoy it.

rookiemere · 21/12/2021 18:45

Mind you I do agree @WouldBeGood Edinburgh in NYD is somewhat depressing as the only food being served are those ghastly stovies, which to a non Scottish person just look like someone has been sick on the plate.

RaraRachael · 21/12/2021 18:52

OH has just tested positive so that's us grounded till the 29th. Needless to say, as soon as we can be liberated, NS will bring in some other restrictions. We couldn't possibly be allowed to enjoy our holidays could we. It really pisses me off. As a teacher, we've had so much shit to put up with in schools since this began, every time we dare to look forward to having a nice holiday, the rug is pulled from under us.

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 18:53

That’s really shite @RaraRachael 💐

OP posts:
rookiemere · 21/12/2021 18:55

That's just awful @RaraRachael, did he feel unwell or was it a routine test?

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 18:56

I don’t want to stay in Edinburgh trawling about sadly for things that are open and it will be stressful with the masks and the staying safe everywhere

OP posts:
RaraRachael · 21/12/2021 18:58

He didn't have any symptoms. A co-worker tested positive so he went for a test and was positive.

This phrasing from Boris Johnston has really struck me when explaining why they haven't announced further restrictions:

"He says there is currently not enough evidence on the severity of Omicron, the hospitalisation rate and the impact of the booster rollout to justify tougher measures before Christmas."

In other words, the default position should be no further restrictions until there is evidence that they are necessary. What a stark contrast to the position up here, where we are subjected to heavy restrictions despite the known costs, until there is evidence that they aren't needed (although how you get that once you've gone down the restriction route I don't know. There will always be some people shrieking that cases are only down/falling/whatever because of restrictions and if you remove them cases will go sky high again)

All in all I think I prefer Boris' default position. Hope he has the guts to stick to it.

ecceromani · 21/12/2021 19:08

Oh no @RaraRachael I'm sorry to hear that.
Were you just going to be your household on Christmas Day or are you having to cancel people?

Lidlfix · 21/12/2021 19:10

Same here with DD4, blaming myself for being too smug and relieved that only one of our plans were cancelled.

Heartbroken that DD1 and 4 come home or that (yet again) I won't see my folks Sad

Rara - does your authority do compensation days? I will be able to claim back days of holidays lost due to isolation up to 2 per 5 days. I will be doing it!

It's the same position in Scotland. Nothing to justify restrictions before Christmas.
ecceromani · 21/12/2021 19:17

Oh no @Lidlfix
So sad hearing of people having to quarantine over ChristmasThanks
Hope all the positive family members are ok.
Am I right in thinking you have relatives coming from overseas?

This is railing. People don’t have to agree but no swearing at each other, especially when everyone is upset
