Second jabs for teenagers?

doorornottodoor · 29/11/2021 22:20

Sorry to bring Covid into this but I am confused!

I know the UK government have said 12-17 can now have their second jabs. But what is growing on in Scotland? Can I just book them in online? How long does it need to be after the first one?

Thank you. 🙏

Second needs to be a minimum of 3 months after first dose. Not sure if a system for booking is is place yet.

dementedpixie · 29/11/2021 22:49

16 and 17 year olds could already get a 2nd one. 12-15 will now be offered a 2nd one too. Will probably take a few days to sort out and will be 12 weeks from 1st dose

WoodstockJ · 29/11/2021 22:54

My kids (12 & 14) got their vaccine the week that it was rolled out so they won’t be eligible until end December. I got the impression that they may be invited for it , rather than booking online. It maybe hasn’t been worked out yet as the JCVI only announced this today.

llm24 · 29/11/2021 22:58

The booking portal for second vaccines opens tomorrow for 16-17 year olds

doorornottodoor · 29/11/2021 23:06

Thank you! Yes my 16 year old had his first one end August. I’ll need to double check for my 15 year old but basically as soon as he was allowed it, can’t remember when that was!

DS got his first at the end of September, as soon as he was allowed to, so hopefully he will get the second shot at the end of December or in January.

Gottasinggottadance · 30/11/2021 07:32

Thanks op, was thinking of starting this very thread. My DC is eligible (more than 3 months now since first dose) but can't see any info yet on booking this online.

checkedroses · 30/11/2021 17:47

Mine got done pretty much as soon as they could on the 26th September, so will be eligible just before Christmas if he can avoid covid until then. So relieved they are getting them now!

TeenTraumaTrials · 30/11/2021 18:34

DD 16 had hers in Aug (basically as soon as she could) so is well past 12 weeks already. Have booked her appt today - first available appt 19th Dec.

Pandemonium27 · 30/11/2021 18:43

@TeenTraumaTrials could I ask where you booked your DD's second dose, as I tried to book my DS 16 through the online portal and even though he had his first dose on 7th August there is no option to book an appointment when I logged in with his details? I'm currently on hold to the vaccine helpline so hopefully they might be able to sort an appointment. 🤞

TeenTraumaTrials · 30/11/2021 19:32

It was NHS Lothian

Pandemonium27 · 30/11/2021 19:45

Thanks @TeenTraumaTrials. We're NHS Tayside and when I finally got through to the helpline they told me that it was showing that there are no appointments in our health board area, which she said she hadn't seen happening before! I'll just need to keep checking and hope that they sort out some more appointments soon.

Belindabelle · 30/11/2021 20:06

Forth Valley here. Took DS16 along to the drop in tonight and they wouldn’t do him. Can’t book an appointment on line either. He had his first dose 13 August.

doorornottodoor · 30/11/2021 20:23

I managed to book Gorebridge, Lothian for 13th December online. There is now an option to tick for second jabs for 16-17 year olds.

Pandemonium27 · 30/11/2021 20:34

@doorornottodoor that's great you've managed to book. I just tried again and still no option for us to tick the box for booking 😩

doorornottodoor · 30/11/2021 20:40

@Pandemonium27 how old is your child? I’ll see if I can screenshot the page I got

OP posts:
doorornottodoor · 30/11/2021 20:43

Sorry it’s not letting me into that page now. But basically it was right at the beginning when you tick which jab/category you’re in.

OP posts:
Pandemonium27 · 30/11/2021 20:44

@doorornottodoor, he's 16 and when I log into the online portal with his details it just doesn't have the tick box, even though it's over 16 weeks since his first dose. According to the vaccine helpline it's because there are no appointments in our health board area. It's not very well organised, that's for sure!

Pandemonium27 · 30/11/2021 20:48

@doorornottodoor - no worries and thanks for trying anyway. I'll just keep logging in and hopefully eventually there will be an option to book his second one.

llm24 · 01/12/2021 14:45

@Belindabelle

I’m fourth valley and managed to book the 13 th dec at Falkirk Community Hospital

Pandemonium27 · 03/12/2021 14:37

Just an update in case this information helps anyone with a 16 - 17 year old who is due their second jab but can't book it on the online portal, I took my son to a drop in clinic in NHS Tayside area yesterday afternoon and he was given the second dose. This was after conflicting advice from the national vaccination helpline and the local helpline about whether 16 year olds would be accepted at a drop in clinic. I had passed by the Vaccination centre in the morning and asked the man on the door who said yes drop ins were for anyone over the age of 16 and eligible for a second dose. I then took him in straight after school and we were in and out in under half an hour. This might be an option for those of you who couldn't book an appointment on the online portal. What a palaver!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/12/2021 20:52

I'm very confused, after googling I jut can't figure out what I'm supposed to do with my 13 and 16 year old.

Im not daft, but I genuinely cannot figure it out how to get me and them boosted at the same time.

doorornottodoor · 08/12/2021 20:57

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria I don’t think the below 16s are getting their second jab yet. Have they had their first? My 15 year old only had his first in October (which was when it was rollled out to 12-15)

OP posts:
doorornottodoor · 08/12/2021 20:59

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria just reread your post. You should be able to book yourself and your 16 year old. I wouldn’t try and do it at the same time though! Too complicated. I found online good. Just check every morning. Whereabouts are you? In Lothian Gorebridge had lots.
