The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

Tbh I'd be happy to forego hospital treatment for covid if they just leave me the fuck alone.

But in general no terrible idea. Awful slippery slope giving the state so much power of coercion over your body and medical decisions.
And where does it stop? Do we then refuse to treat lifestyle related illnesses, suicide attempts?

MaxNormal · 07/12/2021 10:54

I think the panic about Omicron is partly because it's a bit of an unknown but also because everyone is on hair trigger, fight or flight and because we're so used to going on positive test numbers that a milder but more contagious variant will panic people if there are lots of positive cases.

Also fortunes have been made, careers built and lockdown puppies purchased. For some a return to normality will be pretty unappealing.

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2021 11:15

Maybe we could start prosecuting people for suicide attempts again @MaxNormal? Selfish NHS hoggers

I do wonder how many of our esteemed leaders have share portfolios that include Pfizer?

The dentist has been out again with doom and predictions of closures because of omicron

MaxNormal · 07/12/2021 11:18

Sigh. The dentist does not kindle a feeling of Christmas cheer in my bosom.

OnceUponAWhine · 07/12/2021 11:30

The dentist better not start with any of his Christmas tattie-spoon sharing horror mansplaining, again. It might finally tip me over.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/12/2021 12:58

I do agree we've recreated some sort of Victorian morality play with the deserving vaccinated and undeserving vaccine deniers.

I've got 3 anti vax family members and whilst I think they're idiots, even if the nhs has to look after them, the severe illness consequences and risk of death is going to impact them as individuals more than the nhs or us as society.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/12/2021 12:59

I'm wishing I'd made that leap into pharma IT a few years back 😂

runningpink · 07/12/2021 13:14

@rookiemere does your friend have a treadmill as well?
If so me and a friend done a zwift the other day and called each other on messenger and we’re chatting whilst cycling. That might be an option, not quite the same as in person but still an opportunity to chat

There is an app to do this through but we couldn’t work out how to use it! 😂

rookiemere · 07/12/2021 13:18

That is a great idea @runningpink but unfortunately she doesn't.

Annoyingly someone DH was out with for his works night out has tested positive. There were only 4 of them. I did tell him not to catch covid as he headed out the door FFS that's Christmas down the pan most likely. Don't know if I should tell the jury people, they're doing the selection this afternoon, but at the minute neither of us are testing positive and perhaps we won't.

Tiredoftiers · 07/12/2021 13:30

I tipped today at the radio advert saying 1 in 3 people with covid have no symptoms. They counted me as having no fucking symptoms despite feeling like death warmed up, blocked but runny nose, sore throat, funny tummy, dizziness, crushing fatigue and no appetite. No cough, fever or loss of taste/smell so apparently symptomless covid Hmm. I’m still cross a month later, and nhsinform still tells me I’m unlikely to have covid.

Has anyone received our esteeemed leader's wise words yet?

I've been outside preparing the Christmas tree. Railing at DH being in an online meeting in the sitting room when I want to get the tree up in there.

@WouldBeGood

WhaaaatConfused Why do we need daily updates? Hospital numbers are lowest they've been for ages. There is no need for anyone to be panicking the population
ecceromani · 07/12/2021 15:40

Just drag the tree in through the middle of his meeting @mibbelucieachwell Grin

I love the idea of you appearing in the background of zoom, putting the decorations on and generally pottering around the treeXmas Grin

I have my booster jag booked for early jan as there was nothing else available at a time and date I could make. I don't want to struggle out to the mass vaccination centre as it's miles away and awkward to get to and I have lots of commitments / child case issues to accommodate.

I am being bombarded with texts from the GPs and now letters from the health board telling me to book my vaccination. If they could deliver more vaccinations at the clinic 10 mins away i would be there before christmas or between christmas and the new year, but as ever it seems like all the capacity is at the big centre.

I am panicking again for not going sooner and my mental health is shot to pieces as a result. I'm finding it hard to keep perspective as a just turned 50 year old ... not helped by mum doom and glooming at every opportunity and the constant media uproar/ Swinney pronouncements

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2021 15:51

“Really concerning, blah blah, employers let people work from home til January, test regularly and repeatedly.. daily review of the need for restrictions “

Not considering closing schools nationally

@2022HereWeCome just keeping checking online for your local centre.
There can look like there's nothing and then suddenly a load of new appointments are released.
Apparently it's to do with staffing levels

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2021 16:30

I agree with @ecceromani*,*@2022HereWeCome chap on the phone told me availability changes.

Is there no drop in clinic at weekends? They do them here. Take a look at your local NHS Facebook, or ask in local page?

If you’re really worried then maybe bite the bullet and go to the awkward place?

OP posts:
2022HereWeCome · 07/12/2021 16:48

I won't go to a drop in appointment as a couple of colleagues are having a nightmare trying to get proof that they did indeed get their second vaccination at a drop in centre as they didn't get properly logged. They are something like 3,400 on the issue log to be resolved.

The local centre is only offering weekend appointments and I got the first available in January, the weekends prior to Xmas were fully booked. I keep checking but the availability is always at the bigger centre which is impossible to get to by public transport. I wasn't worried at all until v recently. I just need to forget about it again.

Stupid thing is DS is at primary school and we've had outbreak after outbreak and we don't seem to have caught Covid so far so am quite used to dealing with this

mibbelucieachwell · 07/12/2021 17:02

Could you get the app to show proof? There are bound to be no shows at the clinic. Could you phone them directly and ask to be notified of availability at short notice maybe?

I would have been in the sitting room doing a lesson but my wee pupil is self-isolating as he tested positive for covid a week ago. Poor wee mite - I bet he's right as rain now but climbing the walls.

What was the point of that announcement supposed to be? I'd like my so called leaders to do their worrying in private thank you. Given that they treat us like children all the rest of the time they can try to protect us from worry as you do with children too. Where is their sense of leadership? -Make a decision or don't, take the responsibility for it, but don't keep bleating on about how they're working so hard to frighten protect us.

The mibbelucie (real) tree is now in its rightful place crammed in a corner of the sitting room. Earliest I've ever had a real one. Smelling lovely. Mmmmm

2022HereWeCome · 07/12/2021 17:52

Thanks everyone. I feel a bit better now. I am just so so so sick about hearing about covid case numbers and Swinney and the dentist popping up is never good for my mental health. I can't help worrying there will be a move to 'blended' learning after Xmas and I honestly can't do it for the umpteenth time.

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2021 18:12

I don’t think the booster shows in the app in Scotland but I might be wrong. I’ve fucked up my log in and been locked out of my nhs account but I’m not fussed as not going out anywhere I’d need it
