The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

Sorry making Christmas early

HarrisMcCoo · 16/12/2021 13:45
@HarrisMcCoo where did you read that?
Read it from Scotsman article on social media..."Scots told to stay at home as Sturgeon warns Omicron may overwhelm NHS".

hilbil21 · 16/12/2021 13:47

Thanks will have a look Smile

dementedma · 16/12/2021 13:49

Mother has decided not to go to ballet tomorrow, despite looking forward to it for so long as a Christmas treat after a horrible year. Sod this fucking pandemic. Dont know if the rest of us are going....

HarrisMcCoo · 16/12/2021 13:54

I am really worried about gig tickets we bought for the older DC for Christmas presents. Not looking hopeful that the dates will stay as they are now. Hate all this uncertainty!

2022HereWeCome · 16/12/2021 14:11

@dementedma - It's shite isn't it? I have tickets booked for next week. The only bloody thing I'd booked now not sure whether it is worth going ....

I booked my booster weeks ago for early Jan (pre Omicron) now cannot get an appointment to bring it forward. Spent days trying. It's all very well ramping up the programme by offering drop-ins but they don't work for me - I have too many responsibilities, I can't stand in a queue for hours.

Also a bit loathe to do a drop in because a couple of friends did this and now cannot get a record of them having their second booster - drop in vaccination not registered on the system. Has caused great problems for them and is no closer to be resolved 2-3 months down the line

Lockdownbear · 16/12/2021 15:13

@2022HereWeCome I was listening to the radio the other day, apparently Perth has loads of appointments available even though Edinburgh had none.
Depends where you are and if your able to travel.

dementedma · 16/12/2021 15:28

Blairgowrie drop in is quick , apparently. No queues

2022HereWeCome · 16/12/2021 15:32

I'm Edinburgh and not able to travel.

ResilienceWanker · 16/12/2021 15:46

I brought mine forward this morning 2022. I was early Jan too at our local health centre, but have been spooked and guilt tripped and booked out at ingliston for the 29th (?). They had quite a few slots around then. Also, Gorebridge. It may be worth checking (I know you have!) as the big places seem to be ramping up availability that wasn't there even earlier in the week.

Also, I know you can't do drop ins, but Edinburgh has started drop in centres as on this page. I may just be really out of the loop on this, but I didn't know about these, so they could be useful for some! Our local center is doing them, so I may brave the queues if I can face it at the weekend instead of the 3hr return bus trip out to the airport...

HarrisMcCoo · 16/12/2021 16:03

FFS back to queuing in supermarkets 😫

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 16:18

I’m having to go back to not going to the supermarket or any shops. They’re all keeping me safe and it’s just too stressful

2022HereWeCome · 16/12/2021 16:36

I checked ingliston earlier and the first date / time that I could make was only a couple of days my booking so it didn't seem worth it. I wouldn't be thinking twice about it other than the constant media / FM / increasing hysteria generally - and feeling guilty for not going sooner. I thought I was beyond all this

mibbelucieachwell · 16/12/2021 16:40

No panto, just pants from the first minister then?

DD has just suggested coming over for a wee while on Monday and I'm terrified of seeing her before Christmas in case of you know what as she's in contact with a lot of people. I kept myself to myself last weekend to be as safe as possible for going to a funeral, then going to the funeral was discouraged anyway and now it's too close to Christmas to be 'safe'. Effectively a mini lockdown. The stuff I used to do hasn't returned to anything like normality yet, so I haven't been doing it and Christmas is really all I'm looking forward to for the foreseeable future.

Once Hogmanay is over I'm looking forward to doing anything I want to that's allowed, but will it be allowed? I'm not worried about getting covid it's everything else. Ugh.

I agree with pps that Nicola is not showing leadership. Tsunami, threat . No mention of a surge of cases being large, but hopefully short lived. Or of a lab study indicating possibly less infection in the lungs, or new treatments.

rookiemere · 16/12/2021 17:28

@mibbelucieachwell I suspect January is going to be "tricky" for most things.
I've decided to take the opposite approach- booked the steak restaurant for Saturday lunch, DS15 apparently going out to the cinema on Friday after school - might as well do as much as we can, while we can and hope for the best.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 17:50

Would it be too much to go out for lunches on Saturday and Sunday? 😃

OP posts:
frasersmummy · 16/12/2021 17:58

right i'm railing against this stay at home much more than normal .. what does that mean when everything is still open.

Am I not supposed to send my child to school, am I not supposed to go to the panto I booked

Am I not supposed to buy last minute presents in the shops
Am I not supposed to have lunch with a colleague

All these things are allowed so what does it mean ?? does she just mean be an adult and use common sense and if she does why doesnt she just say that

rookiemere · 16/12/2021 17:59

You're not going out for lunch @WouldBeGood , you're supporting our beleaguered hospitality industry!

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 18:05

My civic duty @rookiemere 😃

OnceUponAWhine · 16/12/2021 18:07

I’m still keeping all my plans on. Booster not due until Jan, I’m not bringing anything forward. I feel like we have to hold the line and not be terrified by politicians (of any party). I feel like they have a responsibility to the state of our mental health and there’s just no consideration of that- saying they care or it pains them, is utter BS. So many people dealing with cancer and numerous other life-debilitating illnesses that need to know they haven’t been forgotten.

I’m not denying this isn’t a new worry, but in order to get through this, some of the control and micro management of our lives has to pull back or we’ll be dealing with such a serious mental health crisis that covid ‘cold symptoms’ will seem like a walk in the park.
Life is too short, it really is.

OldaRailer · 16/12/2021 18:13

I agree about the mental health side Onceuponawhine.
Some people look worried sick when talking. Yes it's concerning, but the language and tone is pitched way too high imo.

ecceromani · 16/12/2021 18:40

@WouldBeGood

Would it be too much to go out for lunches on Saturday and Sunday? 😃
I'm going out Friday night and Saturday lunch! Only 5 and 6 people in a restaurant. I am triple jagged so if we can't go out now then we will ever be able to. I don't think the politicians realise there will be another variant along, and another. This is our life now so I've had my booster and getting on with my life
OldaRailer · 16/12/2021 18:47

I think if you have had a booster that's fair enough.

WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 18:52

I was out for linch yesterday in Glasgow and it was lovely, so I feel inspired. Only going with dp and my DCs so no one to grass me to contact tracing

OP posts:
OldaRailer · 16/12/2021 18:57

Did they make you give a name and number or do the scanning bit?
Our local cafe had stopped asking. A restaurant we went to last week had the scan thing but we just failed to do it.
