The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

I'm now wishing I had more people coming for Christmas as unfortunately I'll be doing what she has decreed just by accident.

Coquohvan · 14/12/2021 18:27

@Lockdownbear

I do think maybe the NHS needs a complete reform but I can't work out how you do it.
I agree and it’s shocking that SNP have had 14yrs to work it out and yet here we are. She can not blame this on WM this time!

This wouldn't count as a social gathering they were always identified separately.

It's also not in law

It doesn't mean anything, people are just 'encouraged' to only mix with a max of 3 households involved.

It is a sad day when I read the BBC live update from Westminster and find myself agreeing with (some of) the Tory rebels ....

WouldBeGood · 14/12/2021 20:48

Local lovely restaurant pub put such a sad post on facebook about how they’ve been shafted by NS and are really struggling.

So sad

I just didn't send the toddler for PCR I'm keeping her off now. Maybe she can code along side me 😂 but I've had enough now. Well I did ages ago to be fair but the pressure we are under is too much.

Dp self employed and employees a good few people they need to get their jobs finished. Managed to get inhaler from the docs.

Would love to be more conscientious but we can't bloody afford it.

runningpink · 15/12/2021 07:47

I’m back to full on anxiety again. 😩 Just feels like we are hanging on the edge of a cliff waiting for what’s to come.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 15/12/2021 07:52

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way @runningpink and I felt very much the same in March 2020. I was a right mess and ended up in floods of tears at the GP.

It is tough and it is the uncertainty. For me it wasn't the Covid, it was the queues and empty shelves.

Can really recommend light exercise - just get out for a walk with a podcast about something trivial on your headphones once a day. 20 or 30 minutes. Also the Headspace app I find brilliant. Mindfulness isn't for anyone but it does get you concentrating on the here and now and making you aware when your mind is running away with the "what ifs".

runningpink · 15/12/2021 08:04

Thanks @MLMshouldbeillegal

I plan to go a long ish run this morning and deliver Xmas cards so I won’t be concentrating on my current slow pace.

I had to go on medication earlier in the year and was getting to a point where I was thinking about wanting to come back off it which will now not be happening.

I also don’t care about covid, I’m happy to take my chances. My fear is having to isolate.
I will also not follow any potential rules this time, will travel and still see friends etc but I still feel anxious regardless.

Actually I have the calm app which I haven’t really needed for a while but that’s a good reminder. Will pop that on later.

I also thankfully have a counselling appointment today so hoping that will help as well

Thank you!

mapleleavesreturn · 15/12/2021 08:07

Sorry to hear that running I'm trying to stay away from the news, it's constantly stirring. Good luck with the calming app and the rub

rookiemere · 15/12/2021 08:13

I feel a lot better if I keep away from the speculation. Unfortunately as I've been on a reasonably even keel for a while, DH has forgotten that whilst he thrives on a diet of what ifs and speculation, I can't cope with it at all. That plus that awful story yesterday about poor, poor baby Star.

I must remember to step away from the news and find a more relaxing book - Adam Kay's - This is going to hurt - about the inadequacies of the NHS mainly is not calming!

MLMshouldbeillegal · 15/12/2021 08:27

If you want book recommendations and enjoy history, I can really recommend the "Time Traveller's Guide to..." series by Ian Mortimer.

They're written like travel guide books for visitors to certain historic periods. The Elizabethan one is great.

MaxNormal · 15/12/2021 08:36

@MLMshouldbeillegal I LOVED the medieval one and didn't realise it was a series. Thank you! What a great treat I'm in for with the rest.

titsintiers · 15/12/2021 08:43

Thanks for the book recommendation @MLMshouldbeillegal will add it to my list

MLMshouldbeillegal · 15/12/2021 08:52

I think there are 4 - Medieval, Elizabethan, Regency and Restoration.

I just love the style of them, so readable and not dry at all.

ssd · 15/12/2021 08:59

I'll add it to my list too thanks.
Reading is definitely a solace in these times.

rookiemere · 15/12/2021 09:02

Thanks @MLMshouldbeillegal I'll see if I can get one of those.

mibbelucieachwell · 15/12/2021 11:33

Morning all.

I totally get the anxiety @runningpink . I find I swing from being anxious to furious but hey ho.

At the risk of coming across as virtue signalling, I find it helpful to do something kind for somebody else. It always makes me feel better. It doesn't have to be very much. Yesterday I popped in on an elderly neighbour, purely motivated by kindness for her and came out 20 minutes later delighted at how much she had enjoyed a quick visit, but also buoyed up by her kindness to me listening to my so story about not going to a funeral soon.

I go through phases of remembering my how to live guide wot I came up with myself. It's to everyday do one thing that's kind to someone else and one thing that's kind to myself.

And as someone who sits around stewing, getting anything done, especially if it involves being physically active, is very helpful for feeling like things are in control.

I can't believe Doris only got an act through cos Labour. SNP and Scottish cons abstained. Parliament has gone mad.

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 15/12/2021 11:39

So I keep seeing people saying how unreliable lateral flow tests are with false negatives and false positives. Why exactly are we being encouraged/forced to do then so much? Is there any point in them? Are they giving people a false sense of security?

Haudyourwheesht · 15/12/2021 11:41

I read yesterday that the more infectious you are the more likely they are to show a positive. So at least some of the ones they are missing are not as infectious. They'll pick up a higher viral load more than a lower one. Apparently.

Haudyourwheesht · 15/12/2021 11:42

You can also get a positive with lemon juice though so who knows. Grin
