The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021

Youngest DD sent home for a pcr mid exam. I can't actually take much fucking more of this. She doesn't have fucking covid.

So here I am trying to complete an exam with a toddler. Safe to say I will fail.

Put in a extenuating circumstances form after you finish if you can get them to send you a email with proof they sent her home it will help.
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 14/12/2021 12:33

@Scottishskifun I know I will do that. Lecturer is fine she understands. I was 3/4 way through so I'm trying to finish it so I can maybe scrape a pass I'm just so fucking sick of it. She isn't unwell

OnceUponAWhine · 14/12/2021 12:37

That’s awful @frasersmummy

Yeah to the school report, utterly depressing when you consider there was already issues in Scottish Education pre 2020. More worrying is the mental health of teenagers, nothing a few educational catch up lessons can help with. A grim and upsetting readSad

Our education secretary, from the BBC report into the damage to education: "Ms Somerville said the report highlighted the stark impact of the forced closure of schools and the shift to home learning."
Love how she talks about it so passively, like it was something external that just happened to children and wasn't the direct result of the decisions made by her government. Decisions made 'just in case' to 'keep people safe' and not at all in the pursuit of an elimination strategy long after all sensible scientists said it was impossible and would be too damaging to try. Who could have predicted that these 'just in case' measures would have a heavy cost and be damaging to children. Other than all children's advocacy groups and anyone else who has children?

On a positive note, I am glad that even the SG are accepting that the school closures have done massive damage to children. The educational damage can just be put on the pile along with the safegaurding impacts, the mental health crisis and all the developmental delays in preschoolers. I feel like these stories are being released to prepare those screaming about closing schools that it won't happen. Even Devi is saying school closures must be off the table.

Awful.

Coquohvan · 14/12/2021 13:38

On schools have the promised Laptops materialised?

If NS says anything about X numbers at Christmas we will not be complying, our children have said they’ll do lfts before arriving, they've just qualified for boosters, now booked.
DH & I are 3 x vaxed we are so much looking forward to it this year.

Our 4yr old GC has it, the nursery has so many cases, our Lapland trip has now been c/x for the second time, the GC don’t know about the trip a special surprise for them. Thankfully they are fine only sniffles this far, day 7 you’d think it was a cold they have.

Not long till we’re telt what to do next by our power crazed FM.

mibbelucieachwell · 14/12/2021 14:04

I'm hoping she'll advise maximum numbers for household gatherings and leave it at that.

It's like David Baddiel was saying on his program about social media. The threat of action (from bullying trolls) is enough to do damage. If they're not going to enforce new restrictions they should say absolutely nothing and not advertise their announcements so far in advance.

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 How frustrating for you. Sad

Lockdownbear · 14/12/2021 14:06

Just as long as we don't end up with 2m SD in houses.

HarrisMcCoo · 14/12/2021 14:13

Fastest part of the UK to administer the booster vaccine 🎉

HarrisMcCoo · 14/12/2021 14:13

Watching Nippy's speech

HarrisMcCoo · 14/12/2021 14:15

Maximum of three visitors per household advised.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 14/12/2021 14:16

@HarrisMcCoo

Maximum of three visitors per household advised.
No, three households.

And test, ventilate, yadda yadda yadda. And advise, not legally required.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 14/12/2021 14:18

And here we go with the "I would be doing so much more to protect youse all but that nasty bastard Rishi Sunak willnae give me any more money".

But that's not a political statement. Hmm

Scottishskifun · 14/12/2021 14:22

Ah yes it's not a political statement........

They have found £200 million do you think it's from their independence budget!

Hopefully UK treasury will stand firm and not give in to her requesting so we can avoid lockdown!

mibbelucieachwell · 14/12/2021 14:24

We can't borrow to close businesses . No mention of wanting to borrow to improve nhs capacity.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 14/12/2021 14:25

How utterly fucking depressing

MLMshouldbeillegal · 14/12/2021 14:28

It's all advice and guidance. So cannot be enforced.

Whatever Queen Nicola "urges" you to do.

OnceUponAWhine · 14/12/2021 14:29

Fuck that, it’s not a competition
Lockdownbear · 14/12/2021 14:32

Hopefully UK treasury will stand firm and not give in to her requesting so we can avoid lockdown!

Could you imagine the up roar if Scottish people were locked down & furloughed while English people doing the same job were out working paying for it.

We wouldn't be happy if it was the other way around, Scottish people out working while the English were sitting with their feet up

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 14/12/2021 14:33

Can someone help me here. So if it has an R rate potentially of 4 and is doubling every 2 days is that right?

How many cases do we have confirmed here?

mibbelucieachwell · 14/12/2021 14:46

Did she say 25% of cases?

So that's 25% of 3, 100 today = 775ish in the last 24 hours of reporting. + smaller percentage of the cases since the first one.

But R depends on the circumstances of each infection so she can't just state it 'could be as many as 4'.

mibbelucieachwell · 14/12/2021 14:47

But coexisting, though probably about to outcompete delta, cases.

ResilienceWanker · 14/12/2021 14:52

Apparently there are 100ish confirmed cases today, taking the total to around 300. BUT overall they think about 27% of all Scottish cases are omicron - so of the 3000 ish cases today, close to 1000 are actually omicron... rather than 100!

I THINK this huge discrepancy is that the 300 confirmed cases have been properly sequenced, but when any case is run through PCR they can see if it's got the "S gene dropout" (whatever that is) which omicron has and delta doesn't. And 27% do (or don't?!) have that... so they assume they are omicron without the proper sequencing. That's my take on it, anyway, with no viral identification experience at all Xmas Grin
