The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

My mother is nearly 87 and in poor health. Last year she sat forlornly with a laptop looking at her family on Zoom. I dont care what the rules are, that wont be happening this year

Haudyourwheesht · 13/12/2021 21:34

Folk will be furious if things close. Town was rammed today. Restaurants looked pretty buzzing.

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 21:34

I had this once with a real life funeral. XH snd I had both had real flu, and were on the mend but terrified we’d kill off the rest of the elderly congregation. Sat far away from everyone. I had post flu misery and was snivelling inappropriately. Old times!

*no one got flu

@Haudyourwheesht I agree people will be furious if places close. But I just don't think it will happen unless BJ allows business support and furlough.

Glad they've said schools won't close. Older kids are doing prelims, LOs have worked on nativities and learning songs.
Even if the nativity will be shown via Google classroom

Haudyourwheesht · 14/12/2021 06:46

That's the other thing. They've been gradually imposing more restrictions anyway. Vaccine passports barring some folk from going to the football, or the theatre. Nursery shows are all all online, and primary ones. Maintaining masks and distancing in schools. Masks in shops and public transport. Track and bloody trace. Cancelling nursery parties. She's still been stepping onto that podium every chance she gets, and they're still publishing barely in context daily numbers.
It's not like we've been living in some covid-free utopia.

runningpink · 14/12/2021 07:27

I am dreading this afternoon. Tummy in knots!

I have however taken on board what you guys said and gave booked an appointment for the booster. Hoping to get a better location/day/time but what I have will do for now.

I am doing it sorely to prevent me potentially getting really ill and that is all.

frasersmummy · 14/12/2021 07:51

It must be something bad..not only is she addressing parliament but she is addressing the nation as well in the evening..fuuuucckk

Lockdownbear · 14/12/2021 07:58

She can't do that much she needs cash to close things.

BoJo addressed the nation on Sunday and was really just finger waving, she'll do the same. Bla bla bla get a booster bla bla bla

ecceromani · 14/12/2021 08:02

That's what I've done @runningpink and I feel much more confident now DH and I have had our boosters. And my teens have had their jags.
If we get covid we get it but there's nothing more I can do.
By all reports I won't be seriously ill and that's what matters to me so I'm carrying on as normal.
I will be continuing to see people and have my nights out (which are small gatherings anyway)

Two egos in a pod; Sturge and Drakeford. Addressing their nations on TV, says it all. Starmer got one, so they all want one. Pathetic.
ecceromani · 14/12/2021 08:16

Well I won't be watching as it will be a lecture about getting the jag, which I've had so there's nothing more I can do.
And I wont stop seeing my friends and family as I got the jag so I could do that!

Just don't watch her. I won't be.

As others have said I have had my 2 x jags and 1 x booster, so has DH, 18 year old has had 2, other kids have had everything they are allocated given their age group.

So really, what can she tell me I don't know? It'll just be more of the same "look how different I am to Boris" with the same old same old of caution, tsunamis, precarious, regrettably, I know how hard it is, I could cry.

It's all bollocks and political posturing.

ssd · 14/12/2021 08:34

I suppose the get the booster speeches are aimed at those who are still sitting on the fence. Not those of us who've had them. I guess they feel they need to try anything. And then say if enough folk don't get it we'll start the tiers again.
I dont watch it.

Yes, delving into my psyche, I think that's why I'm getting mine! I can try and persuade myself it's for the greater good and all, but basically I've been frightened into assuming omicron is all around waiting to pounce, and as I was last jabbed about 4 months ago, and had covid 5 months ago, I'm basically fair game for the new variant Xmas Hmm My head knows that has to be rubbish, I have to have some immunity in there somewhere, but they've definitely done a good job of making me think it's not good enough.

I think I may lock myself in the airing cupboard today, away from the news and so on. My tummy's feeling weird. Relieved slightly that NS has said they aren't considering closing schools (as if that is a "good" thing they are doing, rather than just what should be expected!) but angry that HY was just yesterday bluffing that school closures were being considered. Why even say that, if they weren't being considered. Or were they considered, and then written off cos of the public backlash? In which case, tell us what else has been considered and written off... don't just keep us dangling. Bastards.

ssd · 14/12/2021 08:38

I dont know one person who got the vaccine for the greater good. Folk got it to help them not get too ill with covid.

ResilienceWanker · 14/12/2021 08:48

I think by "greater good" I mean "if enough people get the vaccine/ booster they will let us do x, y, z again"!

People's decision making probably varies according to age, too. Yes, 50+ may be concerned about them personally being protected, but I think for the younger ones, especially 12+ or 18-30 the thinking will be much more "I want to minimise the chance of me spreading it unknowingly to someone vulnerable" or "I want to minimise the chance of having to miss school/ work through having to isolate", or "I want to be able to travel or get pissed in a nightclub" rather than "I don't want to become very ill". Which I suppose are still "personal" reasons with benefit to the individual - even if the "benefit" is not feeling guilt at doing something utterly unintended and hypothetical.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 14/12/2021 08:49

@ssd

I dont know one person who got the vaccine for the greater good. Folk got it to help them not get too ill with covid.
Course they did. This idea that we're all in it for the greater good is nonsense. People take precautions or get jabs to protect themselves, or people they care about in their immediate friends and family.

This idea that you should get the vaccination to protect Senga McGlumphy in Dunfermline who you've never met is just rubbish.

Travelling Tabby site shows 8% of Scottish population eligible for vaccine, but haven't had a single one. That's about 418,000 people. A bit less than the entire population of Edinburgh, or about the same as the population of Aberdeen, Dundee and Paisley added together.

What are they doing to get to those people?

ssd · 14/12/2021 08:54

@ResilienceWanker, actually what you said is true. My dcs got it for the reasons you said. My age group got it to stay healthy.
I stand corrected!

WouldBeGood · 14/12/2021 08:58

I’m over fifty and got it so I could travel.

Hasn’t gone well.

There’s always a promise of jam tomorrow.

OP posts:
MLMshouldbeillegal · 14/12/2021 08:59

Yes but it's still for "selfish" reasons. Young people in their teens and 20s are getting their jabs to protect their own granny or vulnerable relatives, or to be able to access clubs/bars/football games. Not to protect a randomer they've never met.

Not that I have a problem with that viewpoint, it's human nature.

ssd · 14/12/2021 08:59

Is your France trip still on @WouldBeGood

WouldBeGood · 14/12/2021 09:02

Nope, @ssd. Had to cancel it with the new restrictions.

I’d booked to go to horse racing at new year instead, but very much doubt that that will go ahead either.

@MLMshouldbeillegal I met one of those " haven't got round to it" people yesterday through my work.
I'll tell you what would definitely get her to go and get the jag. Open up travel again.
She wants to go to Spain next summer and her son (older teen) has pointed out to her they'll all need a vaccine now to get into Spain.
So she's now planning to go to a drop in clinic to get 1st dose!

ssd · 14/12/2021 09:10
