The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

I know. Albeit I am vaccinated and now boosted. But still, brings it home.

MaxNormal · 13/12/2021 13:48

@ssd I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious about this. I hope you at least get a good night's sleep tonight.

frasersmummy · 13/12/2021 13:48

Does anyone else feel a sense of early march 2020 where we had no idea if this was going to be really bad or just a storm in a teacup and we all just sat and waited as things closed down around us before the official lockdown

Not sure if its just me that has that deja vu sense

MaxNormal · 13/12/2021 13:50

frasersmummy yes know what you mean. I'm hoping that this time it won't be the shitstorm that that was.

But I'm mercifully also feeling a bit numb about it today.

Lockdownbear · 13/12/2021 15:58

@frasersmummy I know exactly what you mean. But we have less resilience if that's the right word everyone is worn down by two years of gloom and doom.

Lockdownbear · 13/12/2021 16:00

I guess it must be a bit like how people felt half way through the WW2. Not quite knowing when normal will return.

mapleleavesreturn · 13/12/2021 16:16

Although the analogy I'm thinking of is ww1 - it's 1916, just one more time over the top walking in a straight line, that'll do it this time. WRT to the lack of evolving strategy at least. I'm joking badly clearly!

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 16:25

DSs school has just closed the gym. Last week he had been asked to be part of a small group of rugby players chosen to work on nutrition and special gym work. I was so proud of him. Can't see that happening next term now.

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 16:26

Peers at @Lockdownbear , I'm very suspicious of Ww2 analogies after the last couple of years, you better not be mentioning resilience is all I'm saying Grin.

frasersmummy · 13/12/2021 16:40

There are 2 main differences between this and either war.
There was a definite purpose and strategy to the war and there was always going to be a finishing line. There was always going to be a point when someone surrendered
Covid has no finish line, we can't defeat it
The other main difference as this ramps up again we will be told to stay away from our loved ones. In the war we really were all in it together..looking out for each other. Now we are treating each other with suspicion ..

mibbelucieachwell · 13/12/2021 16:55

Radio Scot news saying something about a statement from NS to the effect that schools will not be closing.

Reports from SA that they think omicron is much less likely to cause severe illness. Commentator then cautioning that SA has a difference demographic. Nobody pointing that while it's median age of population is much lower than ours they have a horrific problem with hiv infections.

Lockdownbear · 13/12/2021 16:56

Yes there are definite differences between covid and war. I was more just thinking when will it end, when will people be able to do normal things go out with friends. Schools be able to hold an assembly.
Make plans without fear that they'll get pulled from you at the last minute.

But I agree covid won't disappear but we have to hit a point when we treat it like flu. And keep living.

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 18:40

Railing against slow PCR results. Dd awaiting a result from a test yesterday lunchtime: already one day off work. Aaargh! A colleague tested positive and she’s not allowed back in without a negative PCR.

mibbelucieachwell SA has a median age of 27 compared to our 42. So lower but not really low, some developing countries its like 13 or something.

Plus they have just as much obesity as here with attendant lifestyle related conditions. And yes as you say huge HIV positivity rate (20% of population) and also a huge rate of TB.

So no not a healthy country in particular compared to the UK.

mibbelucieachwell · 13/12/2021 18:59

Ahhhh 🤞for a negative result soon for your DD @WouldBeGood.

I have decided with regret not to go to the funeral in the north isles. Cos covidSad It was pointed out to me that no-one else outwith the islands will be going and that some of the older people who live locally aren't going as they're worried about covid. DH and I have had no contact with anyone since last Thursday and were planning not to before the day of the funeral, but I felt I was being encouraged not to go, so that's that. It's not like I can wear a sign saying Boosted, stayed away from people the past week and lateral flowed.

I genuinely don't mean this in a nasty way, but I hope the older folks who do go appreciate that I am staying away for their sake. I had my journey planned for absolute minimum contact with others - I was going to take a flask and pack up in the car and only have toilet stops and spend as much time as possible on the open deck of the boat -weather permitting, but I think the vulnerable funeral goers will be very nervous. It'll be live-streamed so I'll watch that.

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 19:36

Oh that’s very hard @mibbelucieachwell 💐 Sounds like the right decision to me.

And thanks! Dd got a negative!!

But seconds later DS told me a school friend has tested positive 🙄 Not a close contact though, I think, and nothing from school yet!

Neither contact has been unwell

The gift that keeps giving eh @WouldBeGood

Wonder what fresh hell they'll announce tomorrow

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 19:55

It really is @titsintiers - it was comedy timing!

Really grateful the LFTs are running out!

Hurrah for @WouldBeGood 's DD's negative.

I feel a bit better about not going to the funeral after a wise relation reminded me how the deceased person will be unaware and nobody there will be judging anyone for not making a long journey up in the winter in Covidy times.

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 20:07

Exactly @mibbelucieachwell. Makes total sense

ResilienceWanker · 13/12/2021 20:12

Oh, that's such a hard decision mibbe, but I agree, probably for the best. And it sounds like you won't be the only one not able to make it if there is a live stream too. Flowers DMIL died just before this whole thing started, and we managed to persuade the crematorium to set up a live stream for relatives to watch - in particular DBIL who had to hot foot it back to NZ before they closed their borders. They were a bit wary of the technology, but got a chap in to sort something out for them/us. Sounds like they may have been getting their moneys-worth over the past 20 months... Xmas Grin

And well done on the comedy timing would's DS! Glad DD is clear though, and fingers crossed DS stays that way...

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 20:18

No testing required for him, thank goodness, so hoping he stays well. Checked the definition of close contacts

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 21:07

@mibbelucieachwell had a similar dilemma about a funeral a couple of months ago, would have involved taking a flight to get there and didn't think the elderly attendees would appreciate the potential germs I'd bring with me.
The live stream was very well done and I was able to watch with my DPs who definitely weren't up to travelling.
