The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

But is that not the point of the vaccine?

And for us all to be exposed once we'd have better scraping masks and all the rest while hospitals were quiet in summer - just like England did.

mapleleavesreturn · 12/12/2021 07:17

agree mibbel I've been appalled by the continual scare mongering in the press, bbc, everywhere. Contradictory information, constantly sensationalising.

I suspect the PHS approach on Friday was a twofold strategy to take the heat out of Scot Gov for paying, and also, as the SNP know people are not going to take this well, so to share the responsibility (taking advice from their experts).

My cloth masks have seen so much action I may have to shell out for new ones!

Cases seem to be declining again in South Africa, with continuing indications that the disease is milder as well.
Link here of analysis.

I actually feel like I'm going insane. You're getting this data from South Africa, on the one hand, and on the other hand UK/Europe going absolutely batshit crazy about it to the point where England is bring in vaccine passports (yet the vaccines allegedly don't prevent much transmission of the new strain - square that circle), talks of lockdowns, stricter isolation rules...

I am so confused.

MaxNormal · 12/12/2021 07:20

When we've all had it once

This is my understanding as well, kind of, but I thought the vaccines were meant to do that as well, but in a safer way that didn't overwhelm the health service.

But if people ideally need to be vaccinated AND catch covid once in order to ensure they are no longer immune-naive, why are we attempting to prevent spread at this point?

Thanks for the sense check @MaxNormal I definitely needed to read that.
MaxNormal · 12/12/2021 07:37

@titsintiers it's more baffled rambings than sense but thanks Grin

The Twitter thread was 👌🏻

England is bring in vaccine passports (yet the vaccines allegedly don't prevent much transmission of the new strain - square that circle),

Vaccine passports in any country have only ever been about increasing uptake of the vaccine. At least Scotland and France were honest about that. It also makes it looks like Gov is doing something.
I think, as we're going to need boosters for some years to come, unfortunately vaccine passports are here for a while.

Lockdownbear · 12/12/2021 09:42

Thanks for that. There was a hint on the news that travel restrictions could go as quickly as they arrived.
Starting to sound like a mad panic over nothing.

But bottom line we can't live like this. The NHS needs to have more spare capacity than it currently has. We need to invest or cut out some treatments.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 12/12/2021 10:04

@Lockdownbear

You 18 yo Uni first year if anything like the other 1st years I know have barely been in Uni. The others I know are only 17 so between lack of ID for the pubs and covid restrictions have hardly seen pals either. Really Really shite for the poor sods.
Yes I have one of those too, he's been on campus three times so far since October.

The only person he knows on his course is a girl he was at Primary School with. Because he hasn't been given the opportunity to get to know others.

Completely shit.

MaxNormal · 12/12/2021 10:04

That's one of the reasons I am so against them. I have extremely strong views about informed medical consent based on my own experiences.

Also turns out I'm a raging libertarian. Who knew. Scotland is not the place for that though Grin

WouldBeGood · 12/12/2021 10:05

Who’d have thought that to be against enforced medical treatment is right wing and selfish? 🤷🏻‍♀️

ecceromani · 12/12/2021 10:17

I really hope you manage to get your medical exemption sorted out @MaxNormal
I have a feeling you're going to need itConfused

MaxNormal · 12/12/2021 10:24

@ecceromani thank you, and thank you for remembering.
I'm back in a couple of weeks so I'll take it forward then and let you guys know.

LizzieMacQueen · 12/12/2021 10:24

Do you know what might be useful, large multi bed hospital-lite set ups (think Louisa Jordan) for the people well enough to be sent home from hospital but for whom no social care packages have been set up. The bed blockers - personally hate that term, it's not their fault.

Elderly care and rehabilitation wards.

MaxNormal · 12/12/2021 11:19

LizzieMacQueen that's a really good idea. It wouldn't need a full complement of trained nurses either, could be mostly care staff.

And done properly it would be a far better environment to recuperate. I've heard far too many upsetting stories of elderly people becoming dehydrated, not having their toileting needs met etc in hospitals because they are short staffed and simply not set up for elderly care.

WouldBeGood · 12/12/2021 14:36

That’s a great idea @LizzieMacQueen. Would be good anyway, never mind in covid times.

Tweet Nicola!

Railing against underfunding for a bloody stupid law!
So half of the funding on fire alarms has been used.....on 800 people. Which means if same rate continues that's 1600 people with an estimated 35,000 needing the funding! So over 30,000 poor families will have to apparently magic £2-300 out of no where for something which isn't really essential what So ever!

Fear not though as apparently that Feb deadline is "flexible"....... 🙄 or we could just do something way cheaper with non linked fire alarms but nooooo have to be different!

Lockdownbear · 12/12/2021 16:20

The smoke alarms make no sense.

Houses build / renovated over the last, what 30 years, have had hard wired linked alarms installed. Those should be replaced every 10 years, fairly cheap to replace them.
I wouldn't object to to big campaign for people to check the dates on them.

Its very difficult to find a system that will allow additional alarms to be added without wires, easiest way is to scrap the mains power and have 4 battery ones.

Which in turn means the battery ones will all go done at similar times, but the campaign will have ended and the annoying beeping will mean people will bin the offending alarm and be left with less than they currently have.

I think this is a knee jerk reaction to Grenfell, however those people knew the building was on fire, they just didn't realise the fire compartmentation had been compromised.

runningpink · 12/12/2021 17:27

Boris us on at 8pm!

frasersmummy · 12/12/2021 17:50

The covid alert level has been raised from 3 to 4..thats a social distancing level.. ffs

And you can bet your bottom dollar Nicola sturgeon is looking forward to saying now more than ever is a critical point and we must be prepared for tough choices..

I have the fear !

rookiemere · 12/12/2021 17:52

Aw Jeez, he might just be resigning . Oh well I least I ripped the arse out of today. Breakfast at gym with friend then outdoor swim, lunch at the pub at Blackness and dinner tonight with friends at Six By Nico.
