The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

@OnceUponAWhine
Edinburgh.

just re-read it - says contacts of Omicron case will have to self-isolate for 10 days regardless of age and including children, and whole class may (I'm suspecting will) be out if any case identified in the class.

I honestly don't know if I can self-isolate again or work from home and home school - it all seems like a massive over-reaction

InkyPinkyParlezVous · 10/12/2021 12:17

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021

God has anyone read the paper they just published 😭
What paper?
SayYouDontMind · 10/12/2021 12:33

No but watching Nic on telly. Preparing us for the worst...

mapleleavesreturn · 10/12/2021 12:34

And dd has been identified as a sustained covid contact - not sure if omicron yet....arghhh!

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 10/12/2021 12:35

I'm not sure how to link @InkyPinkyParlezVous but it's on the ScotGov Twitter page.

Sure enough guilt each other into testing.

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2021 12:39

Those are the rules for contact with an omicron case, which is why I’ve been predicting de facto lockdown even if not official. Can’t go anywhere with anyone who might be foolish enough to test and report or I won’t be allowed to see dd at Christmas

frasersmummy · 10/12/2021 12:41

So if someone in the house gets omicron.. you have all 3 jabs, have no symptoms and even test negative, you can't leave the house for 10 days...
Essentially locking up healthy and protected people ..how the hell does any government get away with this policy and how many will adhere to.it

Am I the only one who thinks this is a massive over reaction and in fact will bring the country to a halt in the lead up to Xmas

I personally think she's going for lockdown by any other name with this policy

HarrisMcCoo · 10/12/2021 12:42

It's a psumami out there, with Omicron cases guys😬

ecceromani · 10/12/2021 12:59

So if someone in the house gets omicron.. you have all 3 jabs, have no symptoms and even test negative, you can't leave the house for 10 days...

I predict they'll keep this until it starts to hit nhs staff.....

HarrisMcCoo · 10/12/2021 13:05

Most of us have followed the usual rules, had our three jags, wear masks in crowded places, etc. Still not enough. It's getting weary now.

Starcaller · 10/12/2021 13:18

It's not just Omicron variant. Household contacts of ANY Covid case will have to isolate for 10 days, regardless of PCR result and vaccination status, starting from Saturday. Non household contacts can leave isolation with double jabs and a negative PCR.

She said: '"Therefore, from tomorrow, our advice will be that all household contacts of any confirmed Covid case should isolate for 10 days, regardless of vaccination status, and even if they initially get a negative PCR test.

"I know this is not easy - and we will keep it under review. We will also ensure careful exemptions for critical services.

"But we believe this to be essential at this moment to help slow transmission.

"Non-household contacts should continue to isolate pending a PCR result, if that is negative they can leave isolation as long as they are double vaccinated."

2022HereWeCome · 10/12/2021 13:20

@ecceromani
She already covered that by saying exceptions to the rule for critical staff.

OnceUponAWhine · 10/12/2021 13:43

Message from the mammy in short:
fear, fear, fear, I will look after you, but U.K. gov must give us more money and if they don’t, it’s not my fault. I will not be sleeping until Tuesday with worry, then I will announce what I could probably announce today, but I think it’s better for you to feel like shit for the entire weekend and build up to my announcement.
I am your father Fear, fear, fear. Booster dozes. The evil U.K. gov need to do a PayPal transfer to Kate. Fear, fear, fear. Fear, fear. I will protect you all. Fear, fear. Announcement again next week.

Ah ok.
So triple jagged Fred who works in accounts seeing hardly anyone and playing golf (outdoors) has to stay home because it's such a risk.
But triple jagged Wilma who is a nurse looking after sick people can go to work as she is so much saferHmm

ElephantOfRisk · 10/12/2021 14:18

So it's her "advice"? I'll shove that with any other unwanted advice.

ResilienceWanker · 10/12/2021 14:32

Oh - that's just ridiculous. So in England they are dropping the 10 day isolation for omicron contacts, and replacing it with daily tests - whereas here we get 10 days isolation for household contact with ANY covid case. Oh, and any contact with suspected omicron. Go us.

Why would employers pay Scottish employees to have 10 days leave because their housemate/ husband/ child has covid, whereas their English employees are able to work as normal? This is going to be a disaster! again

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2021 14:39

This is even more mental than I thought.

Isolation for any household positives? Ironically tge only people who might do that are public sector employees who’ll get paid anyway. Thus shutting schools etc by the back door.
And everyone will be shitting it about meeting people.
I agree @frasersmummy it’s just lockdown by another name.

I don't care what happens, ds is coming to us on Xmas. There is absolutely no way he's sitting alone in his flat on Xmas day. Im beyond caring.
Scottishskifun · 10/12/2021 14:49

Yep there is zero chance I will be isolating DS again for 10 days if a case appears in his nursery. We have done it 4 times 3 of which he never had covid. I'm not doing it again.

The nursery will obviously be shut but we will still go out and play or on his bike. I'm not repeating a locked up 2 Yr old again when he's not sick!

2022HereWeCome · 10/12/2021 14:50

@ecceromani my thoughts exactly!

And I have to say I was not impressed by the example of ( I think) A&E being left short staffed because a lot of staff having contracted Covid 'through no fault of their own' as a result of a 'staff-social event'.

RatinaMaze · 10/12/2021 14:59

Anyone else think we are being buttered up for an announcement of extended vaccine passports on Tuesday? Right now it's all about cancelling parties and nights out so there will probably be some percentage reduction in mixing and transmission over the weekend while the hospitality sector suffers, then on Tuesday we'll get a heartfelt speech about protecting hardworking hospitality workers and that's why we'll now need to show passports to get into any bar, restaurant or cafe. Despite the extra stress and resource needed in the hospitality sector to check the passports, the rhetoric will be that this allows bookings to go ahead and they should be grateful and the same for the rest of us who will have our social plans reinstated.

Or, perhaps it has already gone too far for this?

I'm being selfish - it's my 40th birthday on 23rd. We're not doing much in the grand scheme of things but have theatre tickets and a really nice meal booked in one of my favourite restaurants and I just want to scream right now. DH already thinks we need to cancel it all. We have nothing planned between now and then and will follow all rules re masks and distancing. We're double-vaccinated, generally healthy and have both had covid in past three months (me - very mild, DH - completely asymptomatic). Birthday celebrations were just going to be the two of us, already decided not to invite friends or wider family for covid reasons.

ResilienceWanker · 10/12/2021 15:20

I'm assuming vaccine passport extensions will be in there somewhere ratinamaze . I don't think they can formally ban big Christmas parties, so will just try to make things as tricky and un-festive as possible by requiring them for any hospitality venue, for any number of people. While saying they are trying their best to keep hospitality open, yes.

I really hope you can make your birthday celebrations Flowers It's so sad that they are already so low key, but there is the anxiety that they may not be allowed at all... There is definitely the threat of more restrictions happening next week - but I really hope that it won't be small scale gatherings like that that are targeted. Or it really will be lockdown by stealth. Xmas Sad

OldaRailer · 10/12/2021 15:22

So it's just back to being a hospital acquired infection.

mibbelucieachwell · 10/12/2021 15:25

I'm confused. Is it going to be a legal requirement to self-isolate if a household member is a contact of a case?

Very insensitive to refer to a tsunami of cases.

I so agree with the comments about her fear mongering.

Also, she's the leader so I don't know why she's even mentioning how hard working she is and how difficult these decisions are. If you can't stand the heat Nikki...

Lockdownbear · 10/12/2021 15:29

They are certainly buttering people up for something they have to be very careful they are loosing the will of the people.

People who followed guidance before took the risk of vaccines are starting to question their own thought process - why did I do that and why did I do that to my kids?
