@BlameItOnTheBlackStar

Well they can fuck off can't they Grin
The council? Or my eyes 👀 ?? 😂😂😂

But yes they can. Was really annoyed

Scottishskifun · 16/11/2021 21:36

That's so ridiculous I'm not surprised you rolled your eyes!
I had really hoped we had moved away from blaming people for catching a highly infectious virus but clearly not!

Really hope young people don't get put as the panto villain again for covid! It's been truly unfair on them!

I was too. But sadly the rhetoric still is it's the fault of these pesky unvaccinated people and these dirty kids.

There was also the reminder that windows will be open and the kids need to basically buy lunch then bugger off outside. Maybe if it snows we may let them inside....

Mistressiggi · 17/11/2021 06:44

I insist, as per rules, that non-exempt pupils wear their masks in my classroom. That doesn't mean I think they are dirty, any more than I think I am dirty or my colleagues. I think it is a possible mitigation in crowded conditions in a pandemic, that is all.

I wasn't having a dig at teachers with the dirty kids comment, but more at the overarching message that unvaccinated (ie kids) are dirty Typhoid Mary types. It's something I've seen lots on these forums.

It's something we need to stop as the message being given to kids is incredibly damaging. They shouldn't feel guilty if they get covid. The governments message should not damage people that way.

And presumably you do not take into account that they are still routinely testing, may have had the vaccine and arrive at school 100% clear of covid…and yet here we are 😏
Scottishskifun · 17/11/2021 08:07

@tigger1001 could not agree more the message is extremely damaging. My 15yr old nephew spends a lot of time with my DPs as he has 3 young siblings and finds it difficult to get his school work done.

He developed a temp and cough (so possibly covid symptoms) and was inconsolable as he was convinced he would be responsible for his grandad dying (he has diebetes and a number of other at risk factors). Thankfully it was negative but it's the messaging which goes out especially to teenagers which triggered his response. This was prior to anyone getting vaccinations and DN has also had a jab.

But the impacts of these stresses and potential guilt that is forced upon teenagers due to the language and messenging used is horrific.

My eldest was exactly the same. He tested positive for Covid in September and was so upset that he had possibly passed it on to others. Was awful to see him so upset over something he had no control over.

The messaging is so damaging

Lidlfix · 17/11/2021 09:02

Shock horror, I open windows too (well the couple of inches that I can) not to make any pupils feel guilty but because Covid is airborne Shock. And I have no idea of ventilation in my room and couldn't tell you what a CO2 monitor even looks like never mind the reading. As for their testing and vaccination status, none of my business. So I assume not and not. Enough posters here who hold the view that they won't test healthy DC. Goodness you'll have Usforthem sharpening their pitchforks with the suggestion that teachers take that into account.

Scottishskifun · 17/11/2021 09:14

@lidlfix this is the problem while NS proudly stood there yesterday and said that schools have had CO2 monitors and they had been improving ventilation....

From friends who are teachers up here they will say bollocks and haven't seen anything as of yet. Ventilation is by far the biggest risk factor now known. Some schools obviously have had this but many are yet to see anything 6 months after it was identified.

A CO2 monitor is a little electrical box which shows parts per million, some will show green, Amber or red depending on levels. Others is a number reading. Under 1000ppm is good ventilation.

I don't think it's teachers who send the messaging out but the unions don't always have the most helpful language, the govt with messaging as well and then media with headlines like covid school etc.

DN is in school in England they don't wear masks in class but do in corridors and Windows are all open.

StarryEyeSurprise · 17/11/2021 09:18

It's important ti remember that vaccines don't stop people catching covid and LFTs don't work for the first couple of days of being infectious.

Let’s not forget masks do not stop it spreading it at school. If it’s in your school or community, you know and should be able to take suitable local level actions. Why do we still have children in masks across the whole of Scotland (not England or Wales)? If a child has tested negative that day and is not poorly/with symptoms at school, life should go on, the same way it did for the thousands of COP delegates🤷‍♀️
LizzieMacQueen · 17/11/2021 10:13

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but on the radio just now they said John Swinney had said the new rules might be negative LFT plus Vaccine Certificate. I understand the rationale but .... realistically? I suspect many will fudge this. I mean, LFTs are self certified aren't they?

ecceromani · 17/11/2021 10:31

How are you doing @StarryEyeSurprise , are you feeling any better this week?

The discussion yesterday was about either vaccination or a lft as is done in many European countries e.g Greece but it would be extremely frustrating if rather than the OR bit SG is taking it as a AND!
StarryEyeSurprise · 17/11/2021 11:03

I was still in bed all day yesterday but better today , thanks for asking. I've said I'll go back on Monday so fingers crossed I'm better by then!
StarryEyeSurprise · 17/11/2021 11:05

The problem is that vaccinations are not stopping people catching it. LFTs don't show a positive the first 48 hours either.

OnceUponAWhine · 17/11/2021 11:16

It’s only a problem when people are being coerced into taking a vaccine in exchange for their freedom. It’s quite possible to be pro vacc but very much anti vaccine passports.

OnceUponAWhine · 17/11/2021 11:18

And pro vacc but very much anti continuing measures imposed on children and young people at high schools.

I've gone from thinking Sturgeon was an exceptional leader to barely being able to stand the sight of her! My opinion of her has turned entirely on its head over the past 18 months.

This has word for word been my political journey.

Yep! I have never been an independence supporter but have voted SNP in the past.

I thought at first she did really well with handling and clear messaging. Then as time has gone on and it seems to have become more about point scoring, lack of evidence based/logical aspects I haven't been able to stand her.
I think I switched probably around this time last year when she made it illegal to travel to England!

ecceromani · 17/11/2021 11:55

Glad you're feeling bit better @StarryEyeSurprise
Hopefully you've turned the corner now.
Take it easy and don't rush things though, it's a nasty virus!

Mistressiggi · 17/11/2021 12:57

@OnceUponAWhine if you really believe all my secondary students are routinely testing you live in a parallel universe.
Also doesn't explain why I've had so many students off with Covid (clearly masks don't stop all transmission, all I can hope is that they help!)
