At what point are they going to finally wake up to the harm that is being done with masks in schools?

I still cannot get over the fact that this is still going on. In all secondary classrooms, all the time.

Perihelion · 15/11/2021 19:08

If you're over 50 you can book your flu vaccination before you're due the Covid booster. Website not clear, but I phoned the vaccination help line and got an appointment for tomorrow.
I will also ask when I'm there tomorrow, if it's 24 weeks or 6 months for the booster, because again the website isn't clear.

Exactly @Cismyfatarse It’s unbelievable how they’ve quietly got away with continuing this. None in English schools (I’d have to check re Wales). It’s appalling when COP and other work settings are akin to learning environments, fine to distance/work in offices without. The argument that adults have had their vaccines, whereas children haven’t, has long sailed with a high uptake in Scotland of vaccines in that age group.
@ResilienceWanker I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I really hope Boris survives the aggro. He’s clearly against more restrictions and vaccine passports. Might save us from the worst…. ??
I agree. I've gone from thinking Sturgeon was an exceptional leader to barely being able to stand the sight of her! My opinion of her has turned entirely on its head over the past 18 months. She's politicised throughout; she set out to demonstrate how scotgov could manage the pandemic better than westminster, and failed in every attempt. There is no better 'real world' example than Scotland/England of how ongoing mitigations in schools aren't necessary (because theyve had no better impact here than in Englamd), but still she persists. Bowing to the teachers unions.

I've always been in favour of devolution, but this pandemic has shown it at its worst. Scotland and Wales are both (IMO) pitifully out of their depth.

Ha! Yes, I kind of agree wouldbegood... I think the worst thing they could do now would be to reintroduce furlough, or even dangle that possibility too closely. My prediction is that NS will stand at her seat tomorrow, and say, "oh, we would close stuff if we had the power, but Boris won't pay for it so our hands are tied... But we'll do x, y and z instead which doesn't cost any actual money upfront. but will lose businesses ££££££ just before christmas ". Though I really do think BJ just accepts that that's the kind of thing she says, and ignore her totally.

And also, yes to the masks. It's ridiculous there just seems to have been no acknowledgement that this is ongoing in schools, and the detrimental effects that is having... Do they think everyone has forgotten (apart from those actually in the schools, of course)?!

ecceromani · 15/11/2021 19:47

@Perihelion the letter my relative got says 24 weeks

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2021 20:12

It seems there are not mandatory face masks in schools in Wales

That's right Wales invested during the summer holidays in ventilation systems for schools..... Something which could have been done here very easily if they wished at the same time.
@Perihelion the letter my relative got says 24 weeks
Is that right? That would meant the difference between me getting my booster next week and in early December!

Mistressiggi · 15/11/2021 20:54

I've booked mine for exactly 24 weeks after, the website said to do this.

ecceromani · 15/11/2021 21:05

Yes @BlameItOnTheBlackStar you should be able to get booster next week.
The blue envelope letter is appointment for flu vaccine but it says you will be given covid booster at same time as long as it's 24 weeks since 2nd dose.

Justmuddlingalong · 15/11/2021 21:09

I was able to book my booster for tomorrow. That's bang on 24 weeks since my 2nd dose.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2021 21:37

Well, I’m now very much convinced the SG is trying to kill me!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 15/11/2021 21:40

Yay, I just rescheduled for the next available day, thanks guys Smile

Mistressiggi · 15/11/2021 23:29

Wouldbegood yeah you're definitely on a list somewhere Wink

titsintiers · 16/11/2021 07:42

😆😆 yep, on the big old naughty step

Scottishskifun · 16/11/2021 10:14

Thanks for the info turns out vaccination line should never have offered me a appointment for the booster so soon! I don't have a letter as I wasn't even on the original list of at risk only having an appointment with my GP did they confirm that it was best for me due to how ill I was with it!
Now rescheduled they let me do it for 22 weeks as my 24 weeks falls on Christmas week!

dancemom · 16/11/2021 14:51

On the basis of today's numbers I predict 3,300 new cases reported tomorrow.

Any other guesses? Grin

WouldBeGood · 16/11/2021 17:16

All I know is that I must not say anything positive or we are doomed!!

ResilienceWanker · 16/11/2021 17:37

Grin Yes, you just keep schtum now wouldbegood. Don't want you accidentally calling down plagues of locusts or anything on us by mentioning that it looks like things are moving in the right direction...

I agree.

And we got the guilt trip email from the school today saying we all need to to our part to ensure no restrictions at Christmas.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 16/11/2021 21:11

How is that within the remit of the school, to lecture people about their behaviour!? Hmm

tigger1001 · 16/11/2021 21:15
