@WouldBeGood

They could be forgiven for thinking a beard and looking like a man means you’re actually a woman in Scotland
Quite!

How dare they assume John Swinney's gender identity. Didn't they ask John for his preferred pronouns?

(His preferred pronouns as we well know are numpty/tosser)

ElephantOfRisk · 29/11/2021 09:49

All this and even the Dr who identified it says its not worrying. I'm sick to the back teeth of the project fear going on. There will be excess deaths for decades that will be because of the restrictions rather than covid.

Scottishskifun · 29/11/2021 11:23

I'm actually glad in a weird way that cases have been found in Scotland early.... It means that she won't be able to apply the bad infected English must keep them out rhetoric like she did with alpha and therefore unlikely to reimpose the crazy law of stopping people travelling across the border!

MaxNormal · 29/11/2021 11:27

runningpink re the whole staying in your local area thing. I completely ignored that last year as I like hillwalking and really there's only so many times one can do Tinto.
Nothing happened. I climbed some hills. Figured it was better for the collective national health effort than sitting at home turning into a giant depressed blob.

Also quelle horror no Waitrose near me.

So I would recommend this strategy if necessary Grin

Scottishskifun · 29/11/2021 11:34

So from reading the update (I actually couldn't face watching her it's the best for my bank balance so I don't lob something at my own TV!) there are no current changes but basically she wants to.....

So has written to the Pm on 8 day isolation for all arrivals and the treasury for support going forward.....

Again never have I been grateful that Scotland doesn't have full money powers as by the sounds of it if they did we would be facing more restrictions!
Doubt the PM will support 8 day isolation either and she knows from previous travel bans only in Scotland people just find a way around them via England!
Never before have I wanted Boris to stick with his guns more!!!!

OutOfBounds · 29/11/2021 11:36

I'm far more anxious about potential restrictions than I am about the virus and any variant.

The office is particularly quiet today. Almost empty.

mapleleavesreturn · 29/11/2021 11:37

Well that decision to not travel in October half term and go away in the christmas holidays from Edinburgh is looking like a christmas turkey.

Bloody hell...

user1487194234 · 29/11/2021 11:55

She talked about protections rather than restrictions
If it quacks like a duck ...

Pootle40 · 29/11/2021 11:56

Aaaaah WFH back! Feck this crap.

readsalotgirl63 · 29/11/2021 11:59

@Pootle40 wfh never went away

Pootle40 · 29/11/2021 12:01

Many organisations (mine included) are operating some return to the office. So it will be a change. No visits now for months I assume

mapleleavesreturn · 29/11/2021 12:14

The semantic positioning is simply irritating when you're ruining plans.

ElephantOfRisk · 29/11/2021 12:15

I haven't been in my office since the 13th March 2020. Embarrassingly, I can't actually remember where I sit. It's a big campus with lots of buildings, I've worked in most of them and have been moved frequently. I would say maybe 3 or 4 times in the year prior to lock down. I think I remember which building but not which floor or area.

They are building a new office so it may be that I just never get back into the old one, but I'm dreading being asked my location even if it's just to go in and empty out files and personal items.

readsalotgirl63 · 29/11/2021 12:16

Yes we are operating some return to office also but the advice to wfh if at all possible was never rescinded

TeenTraumaTrials · 29/11/2021 12:26

@mapleleavesreturn

I feel for you and others in the same position mapleleaves.

We're due to go away in the Feb hols and now thinking that's possibly going to be impacted too. The kids are missing a day of school anyway due to our return flight and if they have to isolate while waiting for PCR results that could easily be another 2 days which, with DD in an exam year, we just can't risk.

It just all feels a bit never ending at the moment

ecceromani · 29/11/2021 13:02

@user1487194234

I see it as protections for the nhs, not the population, who are by in large vaccinated in Scotland. But they need to come out and say they're worried about nhs coping
Lockdownbear · 29/11/2021 13:16

I'm just lost for words.
But fingers cross Boris sticks to his guns.

You introduce 8 day isolation you're effectively stopping travel, is she going to offer furlough for airport staff?

The variant is already here with community spead so what is the point.

Coquohvan · 29/11/2021 13:43

Well done Boris heard on the BBC radio news he is not changing his stance.
Thank god we’re not independent as she would have us locked down for every variant. Shes power mad it’s bad enough what she has the power to do just now, god help us if………..

mapleleavesreturn · 29/11/2021 13:51

Travelling seems to be in the same snp camp as drinking, just say no. Fingers crossed the next variant data looks better and not worse...

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2021 13:51

Yep. Never thought I’d be grateful for Boris but I do agree she’d have us locked up “for our own good” now if they had control of the money

Justmuddlingalong · 29/11/2021 14:15

She said she hoped or preferred or something, that the 8 day test would be a 4 nation agreement. Now the PM's said that won't be happening, could she still introduce it here in Scotland?

Lockdownbear · 29/11/2021 14:22

To do the isolation and 8 day test she would be effectively closing all Scottish airports again.
The airlines would likely divert flights. So minimise their costs.
So the issue would be the ground crews, airport workers being furloughed which of course they have no money to pay for.
Not to mention the pain for hotels etc who rely on overseas travel.

So no I don't think they will without UK Gov backing.

The other issue is if Scotland effectively ban international travel, other nations might do tit for tat.

mapleleavesreturn · 29/11/2021 14:26

Yes I was thinking similarly that she can, but she won't - they backed off a few things due to desperate pleas from the tourist and travel industry.

Lockdownbear · 29/11/2021 14:46

The other thing is long term damage to Scottish tourist and travel industry.
If she effectivley closes airports now, people will opt to book their summer holidays from England. Lots of people already book from Newcastle, Manchester and Liverpool.

It wouldn't just be the short term winter issues it the fact 1000s of folk book their summer holidays in January.

Lockdownbear · 29/11/2021 14:51

I've just checked Carlisle Airport can also do passenger flights - I'm sure it too would be watching 👀 closely for a gap in the market
