@mibbelucieachwell it's often cheaper to fly then get the train.
I remember having a day in Amsterdam on my way to visit friends in the Midlands several years ago! Not only was the flight cheaper than the train but it was £120 cheaper to fly via Amsterdam so I had a day out!

I'm quite impressed at how brave the BBC are being they have a article on a minority of trans women pressuring lesbians into sex by calling them transphobic etc if they refuse. Obviously this is a small minority but it clearly raises the issue of some of the aggressive tactics that are being used for trans rights! Interesting that Stonewall refused an interview!

ElephantOfRisk · 26/10/2021 13:39

yep, it's a great article - notably listed under an "england" tab but goodness knows it's needed in Scotland! Apparently it's been ready for 6 months but they had trouble getting it signed off.

@mibbelucieachwell glad DS got on his travels! I too am depressed by the shrieking about and for Plan B. We already have it here, snd it makes no difference!

She must have heard me moaning! She’s on BBC Scotland for a news special now!

No change to current regulations!! 🤬

runningpink · 26/10/2021 14:39

Can’t ignore that case numbers are creeping up again and NHS is under pressure!
Eh well keeping us restricted isn’t going to sort that issue! They need to be putting more money into NHS, beds, staff etc

ResilienceWanker · 26/10/2021 14:41

very large instrument Grin

But glad he managed it! DH went to Germany a couple of weeks ago and went with All The Passports (official paper, downloaded pdf, printed pdf, app that didn't work...) and the border people didn't look at any of them! Restaurants etc couldn't scan the "universally scannable" (according to JS) code, but they were, unexpectedly, fine with the paper version, as long as they could see there were 2 doses of a recognised vaccine. Anyway, fingers crossed his trip goes well!

It is bonkers the flight is cheaper. I get so annoyed at stuff like that, especially within the UK. There's no way it's actually cheaper to fly a plane to London than drive a train... regardless of the environmental cost. So why does "the market" make it? I made a point of never flying/ always getting public transport (where possible) to meetings in the UK for work, and really had to fight with some clients/ project managers who were questioning the time and cost compared to flying/driving. (And I never actually charged my travel time as I could work, but sometimes I needed a hotel at the other end). It's just so draining trying to fight it - and I work in the environmental sector, so you'd have thought it would be standard! Maybe the new train service is adding a bit of competition to LNER now to get to london?

I agree too that it looks like the UK (mainly English) cases are peaking now, without a Plan B/ Plan Scottish Normal. I'm also bemused why so many people/ media seem to be crying out for restrictions down south, when they haven't made any noticeable difference here. "Ah, but Scottish numbers are so much lower than in England, and have stayed steady for weeks now". Well, yes, they are now, but this time last month/ 6 weeks the roles were reversed, and what restrictions have changed in either country in that time? Naff all... Also, doesn't Wales also have masks and vaccine passports, and their cases have risen too, and about 60% more than England's. Do people even look beyond what is happening this week in their own neighbourhood before saying that it's common sense that these measures will do something?!

runningpink · 26/10/2021 14:43

Wear masks, ventilation, track and trace, passports blah blah blah

WouldBeGood · 26/10/2021 14:49

We are never getting out, are we? If they’d just get rid of the sodding mask law

I know!
All these false promises, if she tightens up restrictions over winter I won’t be complying. I will be going to see my friends

WouldBeGood · 26/10/2021 15:14

I’d better bloody well get to France!

Exactly. And indeed, our children's children will be on railing thread no 5,472, with the cloned offspring of JS and JL still telling us to wear masks for just a little longer, and think twice before going out to have fun...
Lockdownbear · 26/10/2021 15:36

The masks are doing my head in.

I can see science and logic behind increasing ventilation but masks is all about control. Kids will be making life choices based on covid. There are bound to be some who've left school to get away from masks.

Really don’t see fully vaccinated travellers not being allowed travel. Heard now that Lft’s for our day 2 tests from 31/10 so cheaper. We’re off to Canaries next month need sun on my old bones.

mibbelucieachwell · 26/10/2021 17:07

Accchhhhttt. Another copy fail.
Uk numbers very slightly down today. 7 day rate.

Scottishskifun · 26/10/2021 17:44

Just catching up with the news (work is a bit mental)
So SG haven't passed on a request from NHS Grampian to the military because its not worded properly???? Really????

Surely if a NHS board is requesting help from the MILITARY then its fairly important that it's done pretty quickly not held up because the SG don't like the wording..... Honestly you couldn't make this shit up!

ElephantOfRisk · 26/10/2021 18:12

DH was telling me that his colleagues who've been helping out A&E ambulances have returned to their normal roles because allegedly the A&E drivers were complaining that they were missing out on their OT payments..

mibbelucieachwell · 26/10/2021 18:56

Jeez theres just no winning with it help out and people moan don't help out and its ignoring staff pressures!
ElephantOfRisk · 26/10/2021 19:10

Oh I am sure some of the staff must have been relieved and enjoying the support but there must have been enough feedback saying the opposite for the help to be returned to their normal duties.

ElephantOfRisk · 26/10/2021 19:14

He got chatting to one of the army helpers a few weeks ago. Lovely young guy who had literally just "graduated (fallen out?)" or whatever it's called and been sent from London to Scotland to drive ambulances with no blue light training or medical qualifications and who didn't know the area at all.

WouldBeGood · 26/10/2021 19:14

Oh dear. It’s all sounding a bit rubbish tonight.

Jeeso! Passed out. Baptism of fire or what. Poor sod.
ADreadedSunnyDay · 26/10/2021 20:44

I went out for lunch yesterday. I got a proper menu. No one asked me to scan in. It felt so normal I forgot to put on my mask when going to the loo and no-one shouted. And the shoe shop had got rid of the perspex screens. I had a glimmer of hope that the ship of tougher restrictions had sailed because so many people will no longer comply
