I'm in the car reading a few threads where folks are fed up with the misery and fighting so thought I'd start a new thread. Not for politics or covid or fighting , just general stuff 🙂

I've had a nice day, off work on hols so we took a wee drive down to Peebles and had lunch, bought a few pies from lovely butcher and now heading home.

That sounds like a lovely celebration of life prettybird.

I'm feeling at low ebb right now, it turns out because I'm due on at the end of the week. I thought I had a fortnight to go. Rotten timing as the in-laws are coming up this Thursday.

My lovely cleaner is going to come back to help me get things ready as the girls have swimming that day and I have to take the dog to the vet for a check up as well. It always all comes at once.

@ElephantOfRisk - it's Ancient Macdonald, like his dad's Smile

Kilts do indeed last a lifetime (waistline permitting Wink). Only his dad's kilt (which ds wore to his prom) now has significant moth damage from supposedly "my" moths Sad I need to find someone to repair it and to replace the "underneath" apron which has massive holes in it Sad Ds wanted a kilt roll in amongst all the accessories they saw him coming in order to have his kilt packed away from the nasty moths Grin

I'd never come across that poem either so it was an amazing coincidence that it featured in both Friday's and Monday's funerals, one in Newcastle, one in Glasgow Shock It expresses such a lovely sentiment. Smile

Thanks @traintraveller! DD is keen to go out out with me for her birthday (20!) and I saw a thing on Facebook at it, but wasn’t sure!

It's not a Fleetwood Mac thing is it? Saw that advertised there. Been listening to their music all day since Grin
WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 21:27

She wants to go to that @PoloMintPatty but DP’s band is playing here… feel it might be disloyal 🤣 There’s a unicorn disco ball soul disco in December though…

Ha! That's fair enough.

I had never really much about it but have heard of a few events there or coming up. Maybe it's a sign of things getting back to some kind of normal? Which is great

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 21:42

I might try it, even though I’m very old. 😃

GrouchyKiwi · 03/11/2021 15:51

DD3 is working on developing conjunctivitis and has a cold. I hate this time of year.

WouldBeGood · 03/11/2021 16:05

Oh, @GrouchyKiwi I’d forgotten the conjunctivitis days. There always seems to be something when they’re wee 💐

ElephantOfRisk · 03/11/2021 16:29

Hope DD3 feels better soon.

It might just be me that didn't know this, but there was a programme called 7 Up that started in the 1960s (I think) which followed kids every 7 years through their lives, I knew that this programme existed and that I think the filmmaker died relatively recently. What I didn't realise was that there was a new version started in 2000 with a group of 7 year olds who are now 28. I've spent a lovely few evenings binging it starting back when they were 7. Anyone interested it's on iplayer - search for 28 up and it brings up all the episodes.

I miss Child of Our Time. I liked that as DS1 was a millennium baby and I liked to follow along.

I saw the latest one of these @ElephantOfRisk. I was on tenterhooks till I saw the boy (man!) with cystic fibrosis was still doing great. It was a lovely heartwarming programme.
GrouchyKiwi · 03/11/2021 19:31

I had conjunctivitis at the start of lockdown last year and was properly miserable, so I really feel for her, though she seems bright enough.

Elephant I remember watching some of the 7 Up series from 2000 when I was still in NZ. It would be interesting to catch up with where they're at so thanks for the info!

ElephantOfRisk · 03/11/2021 19:38

Do you mean Cerebral Palsy @Haudyourwheesht? I don't think any of them had Cystic Fibrosis unless we are talking about different programmes?

It's been a while since mine were 7, but I was totally struck by how articulate and wise the little ones were. I don't like it when some of them drop out but I guess there could be a myriad of reasons. You just get quite invested in their lives and just wonder what's happening with them. I was glad that a couple of the DC who were not featured on the 21 Up programme returned for 28 Up.

Haudyourwheesht · 03/11/2021 19:58

Gah. I've just realised that it was cerebral palsy not cystic fibrosis. With a far higher life expectancy too. Apologies to anyone my ignorance may have offended. Blush

titsintiers · 04/11/2021 05:52

Good morning from Italy 🇮🇹 flew out yesterday and arrived in biblical rain. But I made it out of the UK for the first time in two and a half years 🥳

WouldBeGood · 04/11/2021 06:59

Ooh, @titsintiers, have a lovely time!

GrouchyKiwi · 04/11/2021 08:38

Have a fabulous time titsintiers! I'm not envious at all! Grin

Haudyourwheesht · 04/11/2021 08:43

Oh I'm so jealous @titsintiers. My passport expired earlier this year and I've not even replaced it, so tiny are the chances of me getting abroad any time soon.

prettybird · 04/11/2021 08:49

Both dh and ds need to renew their passports. I keep mentioning it to ds as his passport might take longer as it will be his first adult passport, so he shouldn't leave it until he is needing it Hmm but does he listen to me? Wink

Does anyone know if boys aged 20 and 24 can be vaccinated for the hpv virus? I remember talking about it on here ages ago but it went out my mind. Im currently worrying about that. I know boys get it in school but mine were far too old.

ssd · 04/11/2021 08:58
@ssd how you doing?
Thanks @WouldBeGood, im ok, just heads up my arse just now.

No they will be too old it really needs doing prior to risk of exposure (sexual activity). I think you can pay for it privately but it's not cheap at around £155 per jab with 3 needed if over 18. The flip side is that if they are straight then girls have been having the vaccination since 2008 so their peer group and therefore the chances of them being exposed to the virus is lower so by default they have less exposure to it and less risk of catching it.
dementedpixie · 04/11/2021 09:39

The UK nhs site says its free up to age 25. Doesnt say anything about an age limit on nhs inform

dementedpixie · 04/11/2021 09:41

Oops maybe read the page wrong. You can only get it on nhs if you were eligible for it in the year group you should have got it so ignore me

People who were eligible for HPV vaccination in school Year 8 but who missed it can still be vaccinated on the NHS up to their 25th birthday

Scottishskifun · 04/11/2021 09:44

Yep boys were only introduced to it in 2019 do most teenage boys aren't eligible.
