I got a train to England a few weeks ago - people pretty much took their masks off when they sat down on the train in Edinburgh Waverley. Very few people wore them. Everyone might have had a drink or snack in front of them though...

frasersmummy · 24/09/2021 00:05

With deaths rising are we headed into another lockdown ..what are the chances of some areas going back into level 4 type restrictions. I really don't think I could do that again .

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 00:18

I don't think that will happen. I'm fairly sure that a great proportion of the "covid deaths" are not really deaths from Covid but rather deaths from something else whilst positive testing or at least are not solely from covid. We aren't being told the figures but i'm sure scotgov know them.

people won't stand for increased restrictions which will do nothing anyway.

Lockdownbear · 24/09/2021 00:22

I honestly don't think people can cope with another level 4 type lockdown.
People will ignore it, esp as even the most trusting, NS speaks the gospel truth, type will have doubts on the time scales.

Lockdownbear · 24/09/2021 00:36

Our pal TraveliingTabby says the cases are coming down Smile

WouldBeGood · 24/09/2021 09:57

In good news, sky was reporting last night that Covid will be like the common cold by the spring

Thank fuck eh

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 10:37

good news indeed!

Lockdownbear · 24/09/2021 10:39

Thank God for that!

GoldenOmber · 24/09/2021 13:24

Good afternoon, I would like to rail about the sheer bloody endlessness of the remaining restrictions. Sorry sorry, ‘protective measures’.

I have not been into my youngest DC’s nursery since last March. I don’t know what the rooms look like, what’s in them, what the children do, I don’t see DC interacting with other children or staff.

I am increasingly fed up with wearing a mask, of interacting in a mask, of sodding singing in a mask at church (such a delight). And without getting too in-depth about my own medical woes, the same issues that make it harder for me to wear a mask are the ones that mean I can’t drive so rely on public transport, so it’s masks masks masks.

Private baby/toddler group open but only if you sit in a given spot in a mask. Library baby/toddler classes still off. Library itself is still full of one-way stickers and roped-off chairs.

School breakfast club still limited and don’t you dare use it for childcare, kids are to sit in the same spot and eat and that’s it, no playing. No sign of in-person parents’ evenings and getting to see some of their work. No singing ‘out of an abundance of caution’.

Still working from home, still fed up of it.

And no sign of when this might change, no sign indeed that scot gov even plan for lots of it to change ever. Even asking out loud exactly what the exit strategy is gets you tutted at by “covid hasn’t gone away you know, it’s only popping a bit of cloth on your mouth for twenty minutes in Tesco, I like working from home it’s great, what’s the problem” people.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 13:29

That's a brilliant rail @GoldenOmber. That was definitely better out than in! I agree with everything you are saying. I'm really glad we had freedom day when everything went back to normal...Hmm

GoldenOmber · 24/09/2021 13:42

Ahhh but ‘freedom day’ was for the feckless English, we are Being Sensible By Maintaining ‘Baseline Measures’. Doesn’t feel very baseline to me but pfft, who are the public to have views on how they want to live their lives.

So glad we have taken a more cautious approach than England though, allowing us to keep cases lower than England and “get out of this sooner” as I recall our FM putting it at many points! Oh wait, no…

mibbelucieachwell · 24/09/2021 14:04

Couldn't agree more Golden, even though you clearly don't worry about the possibility you might kill granny if you don't stick a bit of cloth across your face and don't avoid crowded places. Wait...

SG has stated it will follow the English travel rules from 4th October for fully vaccinated people. Hurrah .

Singing is allowed inside schools and nurseries. Also, children most definitely play at Breakfast Clubs - I've yet to meet anyone who can force a young child to sit on a spot for half an hour / an hour!
WouldBeGood · 24/09/2021 14:37

Respect @GoldenOmber for that rail. Spot on.

My work yesterday, supposedly real life at last, was totally totally crazed. I’m still reeling from the inanity of the measures and the adverse impact on the vulnerable in particular. A million miles from normal.

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/09/2021 14:39

I mean, go ahead and rail but not about things that aren't true. Why on earth would a child be told to 'not move.' That's not Gov regulations and if that's happening, you should report it.

rookiemere · 24/09/2021 14:41

@mibbelucieachwell that's great news about SG following English travel testing rules - will save us a fortune, plus much less chance of getting stuck abroad. Hurrah!

GoldenOmber · 24/09/2021 14:51

@StarryEyeSurprise

They’re told not to leave their seats. They are to come in, go to their assigned table, eat there, and then once it’s time proceed to their classroom. This is to reduce mixing between classes and year groups.

No I don’t know if it’s coming from government, local authority or individual school. Yes it is true, though. Who am I going to report it to? It’s not against any regulations that I can see, and they aren’t there for all that long (old-style breakfast club opened 1 hour before school - it’s much shorter now, I think opens at 8.30 and they’re in classes for 8.50 latest.)

LizzieMacQueen · 24/09/2021 14:51

50 deaths reported today in Scotland. Of course not necessarily of covid but with covid. Still sad.

GoldenOmber · 24/09/2021 14:52

Singing is indeed allowed now, but the school are still not doing it. This is out of an ‘abundance of caution.’

WouldBeGood · 24/09/2021 15:02

Remember! It’s guilt free railing so all railing allowed.

OP posts:
GoldenOmber · 24/09/2021 15:06

Going to get a bit complicated if we have to set up multiple railing threads. Government/local authority/neighbours/my sister/…

Groovee · 24/09/2021 15:06

Gosh we've had parents in nursery. Let them have a look around on the first day and if their child is struggling, they are welcome to settle. We're only allowed 3 parents at a time. But never had to refuse anyone.

And we've sang since it was allowed spontaneously last year. Sad to hear that schools still aren't allowing these things.
