I think some of the problem is that laws may have relaxed but advice remains to do these things anyway so people get anxious and confused.

Mu work set up wasn’t law but crazed Covidness, and no one must question!

I’ve never seen ds’ secondary school, no parents nights snd the talk on careers etc is virtual

@goldenombre I meant report it to your LA as no child should be expected to 'not move' for the length of a breakfast club. If it's ten minutes to eat breakfast then that's different and similar to asking a child to sit for their lunch.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 15:23

It is sad Lizzie, but no sadder than the other 100 or so loved ones that probably also died today. First anniversary of my lovely BiLs death from cancer today. Maybe he would be alive if he hadn't been so discouraged to go to his GP? Who knows, we couldn't have a full funeral for him so we have an ashes scattering this weekend. that's if we have enough petrol right enough because lot's of folk been out panic buying...

GoldenOmber · 24/09/2021 15:24

There isn’t a bit of breakfast club that isn’t sitting to eat breakfast, at the moment. Breakfast club is now for eating breakfast. I’d report it to LA if it was against rules but I’m not really sure it is, given the length of the breakfast club has been so reduced.

WouldBeGood · 24/09/2021 15:56

That’s nice to hear about your nursery @Groovee 😊

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 24/09/2021 16:23

@goldenomber completely agree, we haven't been inside DS nursery in 18 months, we have to wear masks for handover (outside) and stay 2 metres away from staff and parents then follow the one way system out (all outside).... His nursery have been very good but they say its to follow guidelines and not receive complaints.

I'm glad to see that common sense prevailed slightly with the change on travellers testing but again NS doesn't seem to happy about her hand being forced on it!

We fly to Greece on Sunday cannot bloody wait!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 24/09/2021 16:25

One of the last lingering stupid rules is that my kids have one day less to do their homework; since last year it has to be handed back on a Thursday instead of a Friday, because it needs to quarantine before being marked on a Monday!

I mean, WTF? The kids can all be in the class with the teacher, bring in their water bottles, snacks, Pokemon cards, whatever other shite, and that's ok. But their homework jotters need quarantined??

Scottishskifun · 24/09/2021 16:38

Ah yes @blameitontheblackstar this harps back to the theory that it all survives on surfaces of any type for 3 days because a lab test showed on some surfaces in lab conditions it does. But it got completely taken out of context and doesn't factor in environmental degradation or viral load capacity required!

Groovee · 24/09/2021 16:38

Why is everyone panic buying fuel? Ffs I worked in Tesco garage in 2000 and we had to call the police due to the way people behaved.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 24/09/2021 16:40

Even if it was remarkably transmissible on surfaces, it would still make no sense to quarantine one specific item while having a fully functioning classroom. It bugs me more than is reasonable, just because it's stoopid.

WouldBeGood · 24/09/2021 16:44

I really agree @BlameItOnTheBlackStar; it’s these stupid illogical things that are so annoying. That is just ridiculous. Who thinks this stuff is ok?!

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 24/09/2021 16:44

@blameitontheblackstar yep but it's one of many which make no sense and have no logic.... Mask up to walk to the toilet in cafe or nightclub rest of the time is perfectly fine!

@groovee because the media reported on it so then everyone goes into panic mode despite plenty of fuel but it then causes issues! We had to get fuel today as we drove down to England so tank light was on never seen some rage like it!

WouldBeGood · 24/09/2021 16:45

That’s exciting @Scottishskifun. I am seriously toying with a wee jaunt away so please report on how it all is 😊

Good rail goldenomber! I agree, it may well no longer be "law" (or even guidance) but so many of those kind of restrictions "just to be careful" seem stuck now. It is frustrating... particularly where there is no alternative "service provider" you can use that could be keener to get back to proper normal, because that's what many people want. And there are still the overarching restrictions of "masks indoors" etc which mean even where you want normality, you can't have it totally... So you "may as well keep x, y, Z too, as we're used to that now, and it's no more effort for us". Angry

If you need to use a particular breakfast club, or a particular nursery or whatever, you are stuck with the rules they have decided to keep. You can complain to whoever runs it, but ultimately it's always going to be the most cautious that win in that case. Because people who want caution won't go (or don't want to work there) if they actually feel unsafe, whereas people who don't will still go anyway as there is no choice - just be less happy. And ultimately, the needs of concerned people win out over the wants of less concerned - particularly when we've been living with this kind of thing for so long we are getting desensitised to the total weirdness and unnaturalness of it all. With proper choice, there could be a "normal" option and a "restricted" option, and everyone could be happy!

GoldenOmber · 24/09/2021 17:53

Plus, places that rely on the government for licensing generally want to follow guidance even if it’s guidance rather than law and ‘try to’ rather than ‘you must’. So my DC’s nursery probably will allow indoor visits from parents to help settle kids who are struggling, because that’s explicitly allowed in guidance, but not parents to just come into the nursery for dropoff or pickup because that’s not. Maybe other nurseries are allowing this but ours are not.

Again I was ok with doing this to avoid imminent health emergency and so on, but it seems to be stretching into “well this is just how we do things now” and it’s rubbish.

LizzieMacQueen · 24/09/2021 19:25

@Groovee Yes, there were fuel shortages in 2000 - I remember being worried about not making it to hospital if I went into labour. Was that to do with Afghanistan? My DH couldn't remember it at all.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/09/2021 19:26

Can I have a rail about Nicola Sturgeon behaving as though the current pressures on the health service are just one of those things that couldn't possibly be predicted and is absolutely not her government's fault in any way. Oh, and apparently it's all because of COVID (which is bullshit right there), which is now apparently just one of those things that can't be controlled and absolutely not out of control because of decisions she's made in the past like lifting restrictions at the same time as schools going back

The hypocrisy of it is really pissing me off! After all the crowing and dodgy statistics last year that supposedly proved we were handling it so much better than the UK, and all the promises of how our greater restrictions would get us out the other side sooner. What do we have to show for it? We've had the largest infection spikes this summer, our hospitals seem to be in worse shape, and our deaths are now highest in the UK too. It seems like all those extra restrictions have only kicked the can down the road a bit, and concentrated the COVID impacts into one short (almost overwhelming) time period rather than spreading them out a bit. But it's not Nicola's fault, oh no even though we're all dealing with delta and this hasn't happened in England Oh, and the icing on the cake is that we're still under heavier restrictions with no end in sight!

Lidlfix · 24/09/2021 19:54

Railing because it looks like we'll finally get a city break in Spain during Oct hols, flights not cancelled, back track on testing .,.

But I still can't figure out wtf we actually do and what it might cost. And trying to navigate information is impossible. I just want to look forward to something and even rehearse packing for EasyJet new cabin bags - skills. I have a capsule wardrobe to plan Confused

mapleleavesreturn · 24/09/2021 21:17

Yes it's not even October, why on earth is the nhs crumbling here despite more spending power? It beats me what NS has to boast about lately.

I'm slightly annoyed, I'd give up on a half term get away so it's mostly packed with non travel things now....I could squeeze in a week, possibly. Hmmmm....

Lockdownbear · 24/09/2021 21:42

Kicking the can down the road is all Scotland has done. And put all eggs in one basket Plan A the vaccine.

England seemed to go for a mixed approach Plan A the vaccine, Plan B allow natural spread. So if A didn't work they at least had some immunity amongst kids and younger adults inc parents.

The Vaccine has worked to an extent, but doesn't prevent spread which is where Plan B, enters the equation.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/09/2021 22:28

Well I think we'd all like an explanation of where the money that was given to ScotGov to enable increased spending on the NHS has gone.

It wasn't spent on the NHS though.

Bit of a recurring theme missing money eh?

Groovee · 24/09/2021 22:53
@Groovee Yes, there were fuel shortages in 2000 - I remember being worried about not making it to hospital if I went into labour. Was that to do with Afghanistan? My DH couldn't remember it at all.
It was people protesting over paying 80p a litre. They blocked the tankers getting out.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 24/09/2021 22:56

Remember that! When the country ground to a halt and we were paying less than a pound a litre! Seems incredible to think about now.

Lockdownbear · 24/09/2021 23:03

I remember fuel shortages in 2000 but couldn't remember why, just massive queue of people at petrol stations. And my DSis who only ever had a car half full boosting she had a full tank.

Lockdownbear · 25/09/2021 00:56

Not a rail or a rant, however went to buy DS an electric toothbrush.
And spots a range of toothbrushes Bluetooth enabled to connect to a phone app.Shock
Is that OTT or am I missing something ?
