Well I'm railing about not knowing where to go with mumsnet and Gransnet. I'm 55 and seem stuck in the middle. I bored reading about babies and surly teenagers. And bored reading about arthritis and grandkids. There's nothing in the middle. I don't like political debate because its all very extreme but no one actually says who they do vote for, just slag off the snp/tories/ etc etc. And i dont fit in with the cleaners and career talk.

Ive been on mn since 2004 christ, but i dont fit in now. I dont know where to go.

WouldBeGood · 18/10/2021 10:24

Stay here and chat with us @sdd!

I know where you’re coming from: similar age, though I had my DCs late so still have teens along with my impending arthritis 🤣

I'm not sure if it's the weather and Monday - feeling so gloomy today. Other than this thread, I can relate ssd. A general feeling of having no energy.

Groovee · 18/10/2021 12:21

I feel the same @ssd. Scotsnet tends to be my only visit these days.

ssd · 18/10/2021 13:26

Ive got energy, just nowhere to put it.
I like that we have scotsnet but i feel alienated here to sometimes. I feel if you dont loathe the snp here you're automatically a sheep who bows at nicola sturgeon. I know theres loads that the snp has done thats stupid but to me right now its either them or the tories and i couldn't vote tory ever. And sorry but the mask thing does my head in. I totally support folk not wanting to wear one, but i just feel like dont wear it then, just get on with it. And if anyone says anything tell them to mind their own. Ive gone out and forgotten my mask and thats that. Bi sometimes feel on here its like a badge of honour to not wear one, like its a big grand statement. Just do it or don't, but dont announce it. Its not a big 2 fingers up to the snp not to wear one, its a choice ,that's all. Loads of people i know dont wear them now, its not a big deal.
Sorry i know im being grumpy.
But i love Scotland and sometimes feel scotsnet just wants to trash everything here. I get enough of that from family living in England.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 18/10/2021 13:31

I get you @ssd yours as the same reasons that I don't post much any more. I'm not really an SNP supporter, but neither do I find fault with every single decision ever made, even if I've argued that it's something they should do only weeks ago.

Also don't give a shit about masks, in fact would prefer to keep wearing mine, and if others don't, whatever, but maybe keep back a little.

I know what I'm getting when I come on this thread, which is why I mainly lurk, but the fact that the tiers thread has now become the same as this one makes me feel like I can't post anywhere and find empathy or agreement.

Lockdownbear · 18/10/2021 13:47

Any update on the schools yet?

I really feel for the kids.

ssd · 18/10/2021 13:59

There's loads the snp have done that i dont agree with. But i feel if you dont condemn every little thing about them then you're a tartan banner waving eedgit. There's nothing in the middle.

Scottishskifun · 18/10/2021 14:20

I don't vote SNP or Tory, I tend to vote Labour or Lib Dem and most definitely for the Scottish Parliament which has the ability to be more balanced.
I don't get the argument that it's tory or snp when there are other parties and I vote on what policies I agree with. The argument of well they won't get in is a non starter for me go for what makes a difference to you and what matters to you.

Bizarrely I used to be quite praising of NS and some of the decisions made especially early doors but not in the last year. I've watched my DH struggle work wise with crapness from SG always changing and them not giving them heads up or guidance in time, suffered direct trauma from covid policies they implemented for NHS around support options and general crapness of supporting LC. I was done after that!

I think the mask thing is all well and good to say just don't I have been on the receiving end of some pretty horrible people though and that's really not nice and generally I'm so taken aback that they feel justified in behaving that way that I just try to escape or avoid it!

ssd · 18/10/2021 14:29

I hate to hear you've had stick over the mask wearing @Scottishskifun.
I cant understand folk having a go about that but i know its happened. Some folk are just arseholes. And i usually vote Labour but it just feels wasted just now.
I dont know, i just feel at 6s and 7s with everything just now

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 18/10/2021 14:30

Yes, the Tory/SNP thing isn't true of real life, I think people use it as an exaggerated point of difference to make their argument more persuasive.

I actually am not sure this is just about politics though - there's a culture of moaning on here that I find quite draining. It's just the daily drip drip drip of low level dissatisfaction that makes it quite hard to jump in if you feel differently.

ssd · 18/10/2021 14:49

Yes i feel the same @BlameItOnTheBlackStar

I like hearing everyone's day to day stuff and god knows i can moan fir Britain, but sometimes on here its like gleeful when the SG fuck up, which they do quite a lot.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 18/10/2021 14:50

"It's just the daily drip drip drip of low level dissatisfaction that makes it quite hard to jump in if you feel differently."

I actually kind of agree with you @BlameItOnTheBlackStar, although I do think that the vast majority of the griping about the SNP is perfectly justified. I feel genuinely kind of oppressed under an SNP administration (from COVID and other micromanaging legislation), and the frustration at the lack of choice over things like masks gets to me sometimes. It's all very well to say do it or don't, but that's the choice people have in England, not here, where workplaces are 'following guidance' and insisting on them, and you have to wear them for the few steps when you move around in restaurants and gyms etc.
I know it doesn't do me any good to stress about it though, and was actually just thinking that the only way I'm going to overcome the mental health issues that keep pulling me under is to try and take a step back from worrying about what bullshit the SG are doing now and just live life. As much as they'll let me anyway. Perhaps I will 'forget' my mask more often, at least where I'm less likely to be challenged about it. I need some things to look forward to. Maybe make a huge fuss of Halloween or Christmas to take my mind off it all.

Scottishskifun · 18/10/2021 14:54

@ssd of definitely some people are just arseholes!
Its a bit like the curtain twitchers or those that reported neighbours for having family around in a crisis or death etc they seem to feel justified because of messaging and tone of messaging coming out.

It's definitely a minority but not pleasant and I think if I was in a large city like Glasgow or Edinburgh then it would probably be less as way more people just go about their business!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 18/10/2021 15:02

It seems so variable too @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

My office has never closed and we're now in a position where loads of people don't wear masks to move about either. And yet, I had to go on a housing association website today for work purposes, and it's all THIS OFFICE IS CLOSED DUE TO THE ONGOING PANDEMIC' and I just think...really??

There's really no way they could have found for people to work together in the last 18 months? I mean, come on... Public sector bodies are clearly much more beholden to visibly following legislation I suppose.

I was recently in a job centre when they discovered that someone who had been in the office three days prior had Covid, and the stampede for the doors was hilarious I'm telling you. They evacuated like there was a fire, I'm not kidding.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 18/10/2021 15:10

Ah but that virus might have been lurking on the door handles and pot plants ready to strike! That's actually kind of cheered me up @BlameItOnTheBlackStar, some people/organisations just go so completely over the top with it I guess you have to laugh.

ssd · 18/10/2021 15:10

Working in the shop, im finding more people aren't bothering with them or wearing them under their noses and less people are minding. I was a believer before, but i couldn't figure out why our numbers were so high and we still had masks. Clearly they dont make the difference i thought they did.

ssd · 18/10/2021 15:18

And yes, the disparity between places regarding the restrictions are just plain daft. I remember online ordering library books and i went to collect them, the librarian put on mask, visor, plastic gloves and apron before opening the door a few inches and handing me out a bag of books. No chat or interaction, it was like an undercover drug deal. But the day before I'd been working in the fitting rooms in my shop, surrounded by people up close, for hours.
Crazy

sartorius · 18/10/2021 16:09

the librarian put on mask, visor, plastic gloves and apron before opening the door a few inches and handing me out a bag of books

Bonkers!!!!!

Lockdownbear · 18/10/2021 16:21

I guess part of it is the nature of the railing/moaning threads.

But bottom line is I don't trust SNP an inch. Between the named person scheme, education standards dropping, gaslighting covid stuff and the trans stuff. I just don't trust them.
I don't get why they are so keen to undermine actual women.

ElephantOfRisk · 18/10/2021 16:32

Yep, I think it's the railing thread so for railing and moaning really :)

Tiers now seems to be mostly just about general Covid type stuff, so I've started a new thread for more general chatting :)

ssd · 18/10/2021 16:35

I dont feel they undermine me. All the bollocks like taking away the word Mother etcetera just makes them look stupid. It personally doesn't really effect me. I trust my sons to treat other people including women with respect, whatever any government want to do with regards wording shite doesn't bother me. I know it should but i cant get overheated if someone brings in a stupid policy, i just ignore it. Its all the emperors new clothes to me. In a few years we'll be talking about something else.

MaxNormal · 18/10/2021 16:58

I disagree. What they are doing has dangerous real life consequences for the most vulnerable woman in society, those in prisons, refuges and hospitals.
You can also have the police at your door and the stress of a court case for a tweet if you cross the wrong person.

ssd · 18/10/2021 17:19

Get off twitter then. Its full of shite too.
