@rookiemere that's bonkers about the water park we didn't have that in Greece.

Masks had to be worn inside of restaurants or shops generally though most of the places ignored it other than for staff unless they knew police were about!

mapleleavesreturn · 17/10/2021 09:30

When I think about masks I'm mostly glad we don't live in the parts of the US masking kids in primary - if you think the debate is contentious here...

You've got to love the patchy interpretations of the rules that places have made.

I went out for lunch last week and I was shocked that only 1 cafe out of 6 we tried near us was open for eat in lunches, that has to be due to being unable to comply with regulations, or perhaps they've all closed - quite shocking.

sartorius · 17/10/2021 09:37

That's bonkers @rookiemere
I wonder what the science behind wet masks outdoors isHmm
Hope you're having a lovely holiday

Groovee · 17/10/2021 09:55

Thanks everyone. Mr G is rarely ill and in the past if he's phoned to see a GP he's always been seen. I think he didn't know how to be more assertive as he's rarely ill.

Been away for our 23rd Wedding anniversary (booked Coldingham as we were worried Mr G wouldn't be well enough to fly) and it's been lovely. We saw dolphins on a boat ride yesterday. No one had masks on. It was fab.

Masks in a water park 😂 You couldn't make it up...

mapleleavesreturn · 17/10/2021 10:07

What a beautiful photo grovee

Groovee · 17/10/2021 10:42

Twas a beautiful surprise to see them appear x

Scottishskifun · 17/10/2021 11:16

What a amazing action shot @groovee!

@mapleleavesreturn the rules have been chopped and changed so often and still aren't clear for many businesses so I think a few have either stuck with previous or found its easier to change their model. The SG was actually quite sneeky and when social distancing rules were removed then stated in guidance that covid controls instead fell under the health and safety at work act....... 🙄 So they have actually made it really tough for businesses just trying to do the right thing!

WouldBeGood · 17/10/2021 11:45

I cannot believe those selfish dolphins in the water with no masks on!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

(There’s still chance for this to be introduced, if they’re swimming in Scottish waters?!)

GoldenOmber · 17/10/2021 12:42

Brilliant photo Groovee!

What's also happening is that community groups have been so put off by the covid 'health and safety' rules that they're not putting anything on. So businesses that have to work within the constraints are quite used to it by now, but local groups, run by volunteers are taking one look at the nonsense rules and thinking 'bugger that', cancelling whatever they had planned, so communities are suffering.
Groovee · 17/10/2021 13:23

The seals were like, not you lot again. They're still social distancing.

I helped my friend at brownies and the rules by the venue is more than we do at work.

Scottishskifun · 17/10/2021 13:32

@Haudyourwheesht completely agree its been made a nightmare for them and as majority are volunteer run who have jobs or families they don't have the time and all now require covid risk assessments.

Our town like so many has lost so many groups including vital ones for the elderly as its just so difficult. DH has tried to help the ones he can get through it with advice and support but EHOs are completely overrun and now have vaccine passports enforcement added to their workloads too!

SG still stand up and say oh but we have got rid of most restrictions...... But if people actually go read the guidelines for themselves they will soon realise how complicated it is and the number of additional hoops they now have to jump through!

Elmo22 · 17/10/2021 14:02

I know someone posted a link to an article about masks no longer being required in schools but has there been a formal announcement about tomorrow? I’ve been trying to stay away from the news as it is so depressing!

Scottishskifun · 17/10/2021 14:12

No formal announcement just the leaked draft so still not confirmed yet.

Elmo22 · 17/10/2021 14:13

Thank you. Fingers crossed we hear something soon.
Lockdownbear · 17/10/2021 14:20

Fingers crossed for the kids, mine are both primary, but I really feel for the secondary kids.
I hope that gets confirmed sooner rather than later.

It's still bonkers that school halls / sports facilities aren't allowed to be hired out.
That is also causing issues for community groups (guides, scouts etc) who normally hire school halls.

I know, there are so many valuable community groups that have been left in the lurch. I am hoping for a return to normality in schools; I think the wearing of masks has definitely increased anxiety in my kids. Children have been wearing masks in schools for over a year now but I think, as a family, we definitely have mask fatigue!!
sartorius · 17/10/2021 14:32

I really do think anything that hasn't changed by end October, whether it's facemasks /school lets/community groups restarting is unfortunately not going to change now before springConfused

Pootle40 · 17/10/2021 14:38

@rookiemere

Well at least we aren't the only country with mask idiosyncrasies.

We're in Tenerife and yesterday at the water park, had the ridiculous situation where you wore your mask when walking around ( outside obviously) and then took it off on the rides, except of course it got soaking wet when you were on the rides, so of naff all use altogether. There was an officious member of staff using it as an excuse to shout at British people.

We also have to do the stand up for toilet at dinner, remember mask dance. Hey ho - it's better in the sun.

I still all so bizarre. We went to a water park in Majorca in July and didn't have this.
sartorius · 17/10/2021 20:23

@WouldBeGood was it you who went to House of Gods?
It's just been named in Sunday Times best 100 hotels in uk. and in top 9 in Scotland.
I think maybe you weren't impressed?

WouldBeGood · 17/10/2021 21:10

Oh my god @sartorius! Talk about the emperor’s new clothes. It was horrible. We left after one night. DP used to be a prison officer and described it as doubling up in a single peter 🤣

All my opinion

Maybe it was better with the lights offGrin

No! It was dark anyway, which I like, but no window!
