Oh no @shouldistop that’s really no fun

He went to bed at 7.15 and has already been up 3 times since then. He can't breathe through his nose but also wants his dummy Sad
Dh is in with him just now but he's just crying "maaaaaaa" which we think means either me or milk or both.
I think I'm going to have to hold him for most of the night.

mapleleavesreturn · 27/09/2021 21:27

That's rotten should - is it time for someone you know on Facebook to post one of those smug memes about how the hardest thing about having kids is when they leave home and to treasure every night waking and the 'extra cuddles'? Grin

I'm still bitter about seeing that after a particularly bad illness/sleeplessness spell. Horrible having a distressed baby.

ResilienceWanker · 27/09/2021 22:14

Oh no. I'm so sorry should. Poor him and poor you Sad. Hope you manage some rest.

Groovee · 28/09/2021 06:40

Hope you got some sleep @shouldistop xx

shouldistop · 28/09/2021 07:03

Dh and I split the night so we got about 4 hours each, better than nothing.
Ds1 is in a foul mood this morning, usually I miss him during the day - can't wait til he goes off to school this morning.
Ds2 has snot streaming down his face, poor thing.

shouldistop · 28/09/2021 07:07

@mapleleavesreturn Grin someone I know posted something similar during the first lockdown about why are you all complaining about looking after your own kids when you can teach them useful things and spend time together.
I was bloody raging reading it, ds1 was 3, I was newly pregnant (and sick) and both dh and I were working from home. It was bloody horrendous.

rookiemere · 28/09/2021 07:39

It's turning back to that on the main boards @shouldistop with the petrol discussions, with threats of schools being closed and petrol only given to the worthy.Homeschooling now seems to be the first call at any sign of any issue at all.

At least the shortages don't seem to have hit Scotland too much - or at least not around here.

mapleleavesreturn · 28/09/2021 07:40

There's a lot of that kind of vomit inducing bilge in Facebook, posted by people who've forgotten what things are like at times. Poor baby ds.

Golden memories eh? I remember one nursery Christmas party noro was doing the rounds and one of the little ones did a huge vomit right by the special visitor!

Lockdownbear · 28/09/2021 07:46

I noticed last night that the supermarket was out of fuel. But really people can only buy so much fuel.

It's not like the loo rolls they can stock pile in the loft.

But crazy that people seem to think closing schools is an option. It never happened in 2000 people were equally reliant on cars then as now.

mapleleavesreturn · 28/09/2021 08:57

Homeschooling, a madness we can't wake from!

WouldBeGood · 28/09/2021 09:03

I genuinely cannot believe that people are still wanting homeschool to solve the problems of the world

ssd · 28/09/2021 09:14

@shouldistop, hope you get a better sleep tonight. I remember those dats well, i used to bring the car seat in and prop it up against the wall next to my bed and let ds sleep the night in there, all the gunk would drain down the way and he'd get a sleep.

I haven't read the homeschooling threads, i try to skip past the shite on here but there just seems so much of it now.

ElephantOfRisk · 28/09/2021 09:35

Surely in the event of a proper fuel crisis rather than just an engineered one created by overbuying, schools would revert to the snow rules? So teachers attend their nearest school. Not ideal but better than closing completely.

shouldistop · 28/09/2021 09:39

That would make sense @ElephantOfRisk
Something similar would maybe happen with hospitals and doctors surgeries?

I did think about putting him in his pram last night @ssd so I could tilt him. He doesn't like his car seat Sad

Callisto1 · 28/09/2021 09:44

Hope things get better shoulditstop. I feel your pain with the colds. DC2 has had 2 this month and now wakes up every night around 3 to scream for mama. Yesterday she ran away from DH into our bedroom 😭 and was inconsolable until I relented yet again and let her sleep with me.

The Covid testing is becoming a nightmare too and the kids are well and truly fed up. At least we are getting fewer warn and inform letters so 🤞! Can't believe people want to shut schools due to the petrol issues. I mean maybe some will struggle to attend but surely that's a minority and we really really can't afford more disruption!!!

Callisto1 · 28/09/2021 09:45

Oh I can't remember how old your little one is but we used to have a nose sucker in the first year for DC2 and that worked when they were very congested.

shouldistop · 28/09/2021 09:52

@Callisto1 he's almost 10 months, we have the bogey sucker Envy I'm going to buy some saline drops today too. There's snot all over his cot sheet, yuck.

mapleleavesreturn · 28/09/2021 10:22

Saline drops are good. Ah the bogey sucker! I had my window today and I heard some tot on the way somewhere with an awful sounding cough. Grim.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 28/09/2021 10:35

The saline sprays were a godsend for our second (winter baby with older sibling bringing home lots of colds from nursery). They were brilliant at clearing snot so that they could breathe a bit better.

Lidlfix · 28/09/2021 10:44

Not sure my Higher and Nat 5 classes would appreciate me rocking up to my able to walk to school, whilst (where I teach has a handful of teachers who can walk so would likely not open) when we could be taking part in lessons online. Not that I am jumping to that as a palatable option.

Lots commute to my school from Glasgow, NL , Falkirk so would not be PVG'd for that authority so can't just report to the nearest establishment like I can.

Maybe add teachers and school staff to the priority list for fuel so we can actually get to our work place.

shouldistop · 28/09/2021 11:05

Maybe add teachers and school staff to the priority list for fuel so we can actually get to our work place.

Is there an official priority list now? If so, then everyone that were deemed frontline key workers in the lockdowns should get priority definitely. I don't think it will come to that nationwide though although I appreciate some schools may have issues for a day or so.

Lockdownbear · 28/09/2021 11:08

ShouldIstop poor wee guy boogies all over his bedSad better out than in as they say. Hope he's better soon. Take him in the bathroom while you have a hot shower, lots of steam might help.

PVG per local authority seems nuts to me, I know it's the way the system works but really if your deemed good for Glasgow there should be no question about being deemed good for NL and vice versa, especially for a short term emergency situation ie snow.
But that might just be my logic.

We can't go back to a situation where some jobs are deemed more important than others. I mean really we need people to work and get to work. Doesn't matter if your a binman or a barman the job is important. OK we can survive without the leisure industry but they've been hammered enough.

Callisto1 · 28/09/2021 11:10

I'm hoping this fuel madness won't last much longer. But I have no idea how bad it is here in Edinburgh apart from that our local petrol station has had no fuel when I walked past it to check today. We don't use the car a huge amount so haven't tried to get petrol in the last week.

I think if they do make a priority list then definitely school and nursery staff should be on it!

Lidlfix · 28/09/2021 11:38

Teachers weren't key front line workers then and didn't qualify for hub provision during lockdowns.

Yep PVG per job per authority is ridiculous and supply teachers have to pay for theirs but might never do a day's work.

I don't agree with some jobs being deemed more vital than others but I am not sure if you are dealing with a finite resource (hub places or fuel) what the alternative is. In the 2000 fuel blockade DH was a priority so hopefully we could put enough in my car to enable me to get to school if it came to that.
