@dancemom

Thank you everyone. Feeling much better this week, breathlessness and aches seem to have passed for the most part. Still very fatigued but trying to take it easy and build myself back up slowly.
Great to hear. Did you get some magnesium and vit b complexes to help you with the fatigue? It does take a while for it to start helping.

Pacing is hard work in itself. Things I found made life easier were slow cooker for dinners, precut frozen veg and soup maker for lunches. Not too much TV you don't realise how tiring concentrating on a screen is, I put the radio on instead. Having a bath instead of a shower (it also helped my muscles). Getting out of bed in stages and when I could feel fatigue kicking in going back to bed for a lie down for an hour or two rather than sitting on the sofa. Small little tasks throughout the day followed by rest periods so a task would be to load the washing machine but then I would rest.
It's really frustrating to find the balance with it but don't push it, pushing through makes it worse.

Sorry to hear you're not completely over the covid dancemom

I see the footnote to today's figures says it doesn't include the nhs lab tests since 6pm yesterday. It'll be interesting to see how that affects tomorrow's results. I read that the nhs labs mostly do hospital patients, staff and emergency workers, so hopefully a small fraction of the overall number.

Am I right in thinking the SG doesn't publish the breakdown? I look at more details on Travelling Tabby but I don't think he has these figures?

dancemom · 28/10/2021 14:28

• 2,153 new cases of COVID-19 reported*
• 37,368 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results*
◦ 6.3% of these were positive*
• 20 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
• 58 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 932 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19

Encouraging numbers today, especially given that they include extra NHS lab tests.

Onwards and downwards 💪🏻 (hopefully)

dancemom · 29/10/2021 14:28

• 2,732 new cases of COVID-19 reported*
• 38,122 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results*
◦ 7.7% of these were positive*
• 24 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
• 60 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 926 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 4,314,144 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination and 3,903,299 have received their second dose
*Please note that today's testing and case numbers may be affected by a data flow issue at the Glasgow Lighthouse laboratory. The position has improved but there are still some delays in results being sent.

Acchhtt. Discouraging numbers today.

Scottishskifun · 29/10/2021 14:50

@mibbelucieachwell

Acchhtt. Discouraging numbers today.
I think it's going to just hover around these figures unless there is a big spike!

Oh DH told me that hospital transmission was up (as in those catching it in hospitals) which might also explain hospital numbers having a bit a peak along with those delays from late Sept/Oct spike. But we aren't trusted up here to understand the difference so its all lumped in together!

ResilienceWanker · 29/10/2021 15:03

Yes, I agree that we seem to have reached our winter baseline! (Though I'm sure I have said that before and then numbers plummeted, so who knows...)

That's interesting if hospital transmission is up again. How often are inpatients tested - does anyone know? I know they test on admission, but do they then get tested routinely while in hospital too, to find out if patients have since come down with it? Or just if they start with symptoms while in hospital? I'd imagine an unidentified covid positive patient on a negative ward could do a fair bit of damage, even if the ward ventilation works as it should. Although some patients would likely be discharged before coming down with symptoms, longer term patients could well not be picked up on if only mildly symptomatic, I suppose.

mibbelucieachwell · 29/10/2021 16:10

Hmm. Interesting 🧐 🤔

Today's results came with a footnote mentioning a delay in the Glasgow Lighthouse labs results though. this is apparently improving.

So are the Glasgow reported figures artificially low?

@scottishskifun are the nhs labs numbers publicly reported or just bundled up in the PHS results? Asking for a friend

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 29/10/2021 16:29

Yes, it said that yesterday too - or Wednesday actually maybe, but when I checked back later that message had gone. So I think it's probably been artifically low for a few days now.

Scottishskifun · 29/10/2021 16:29

@mibbelucieachwell I think if positive and its first positive but it could have all changed. DH started out last Yr doing test and trace before they set up the system.

@ResilienceWanker I only know our hospital and from friends on maternity wards which is a test every 72 hours if staying on the wards.

ResilienceWanker · 29/10/2021 16:57

Thanks! That seems reasonable, and would at least identify any longer term patients who had caught it within the hospital (or immediately prior to admission, so testing negative directly on admission).
