I came back from Edinburgh last Friday, tested positive 3 days later. My husband, dad and son now all have it. A friend has also just come back from Edinburgh and same thing has happened to her family. Rates in our area have been relatively low throughout but I can see the numbers increasing and will only rise until after the end of the tattie holidays.

Haudyourwheesht · 24/10/2021 07:54

@mibbelucieachwell

The case rate in Glasgow is below the Scottish average now, presumably because of a higher level of natural immunity after higher numbers of cases.

I don't understand why there's so much talk about so many unvaccinated people coming into Glasgow. Won't the journos be vaccinated? 120ish world leaders - they're surely vaccinated. Demonstrators will be mostly British?

It just suits people's rhetoric. Kids have to wear masks in the classroom, and all these people are coming for COP / going to football / dancing at nightclubs... etc. It's a lazy equivalence but it's been going on since the start. There may well be a spike due to COP but as cases are recorded at their home address we may never really know.
StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 07:58

There was a spike in Cornwall wasn't there? And that was a much smaller event. It's not just delegates mixing, they'll be visiting hospitality too. Being vaccinated doesn't mean they won't be carrying the virus.

The Cornwall spike was associated with Boardmasters Festival it's not small by any means its about 50,000 people watching bands and surfing.

I don't think COP26 is anywhere near that number

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 08:47

There was that event also but I'm referring to the G7 summit.

WouldBeGood · 24/10/2021 08:56

I think the whole COP26 thing is a bad look. Chaos caused and businesses affected again, for VIPs and the hangers on to jet in to chat about climate change. The irony.

As well as the message of it not mattering if delegates are vaccinated, no vaccine passports for them! It looks once again like one rule for the important and one for us plebs.
Only good thing is that SNP council in Glasgow might have to sort out the rubbish and the SG step in to sort out the rail strikes.

Scottishskifun · 24/10/2021 09:03

I think that's tricky as public health for the area stated multiple times that although there was some cases it wasn't the direct cause. it was also half term holidays so a lot of visitors to Cornwall and if you look at Cornwalls numbers for later in the summer which were also high they had a lot of tourists to the area.

I suppose its whether you believe public health professionals or critics really.

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 09:46

@scottishskifun 30,000 are coming for Cop26. Perhaps you weren't aware of this.

rookiemere · 24/10/2021 09:47

I agree with you @WouldBeGood on the COP26. The whole thing is bizarre and why the SG seems to be falling over itself to accommodate it, is even more so.

Scottishskifun · 24/10/2021 10:05
@scottishskifun 30,000 are coming for Cop26. Perhaps you weren't aware of this.
I'm fully aware of it and there will also be 60,000 people each attending Murrayfield for 3 weekends in a row (my family included 😁)
Large events are happening which I don't disagree with.
I don't understand what exactly your objection is to giving Glasgow a well needed huge boost to the local economy especially hospitality businesses.
Or is it just because its organised by WM therefore its automatically wrong?!

The delegates need to test, there are controls in place.

It's more it's going to be a nightmare due to travel issues but that's a scotrail element.

WouldBeGood · 24/10/2021 10:08

The whole of Glasgow is pretty much out of bounds for the next three weeks. I think it will be pretty bad for business.

If anything should be conducted over fucking zoom it’s a climate conference!

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 10:11

It's a UK Government event and yes, Boris has said that I don't want Nicol Sturgeon anywhere near it." If the event is going ahead anyway, of course she should meet other leaders.

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 10:12

*said, "I don't want..

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 10:16

@Scottishskifun With all due respect, you don't live here. I don't think you understand the impact of it for those living in and around Glasgow.

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 10:20

I should add - one of my kids will be taking part in a Q and A with Boris. It's great that there is a focus on Climate Change and we have been doing so much work in the run up to the event ( hence one of my superstars being picked). However,
the place ( the SECC) is right in the centre and will cause huge disruption.

WouldBeGood · 24/10/2021 10:22

Oh @StarryEyeSurprise I’d love a chance to question Boris! 🤣

Scottishskifun · 24/10/2021 10:23

And with all due respect your biggest issue seems to be that it's organised by WM rather than anything else!

forfucksakenett · 24/10/2021 10:27

More mental gymnastics as usual 🙄 ... people are moaning about the disruption and the covid impact. It would be annoying no matter who organised it.

Its nice to have a spotlight on our city but It's still a bloody nightmare and while it might be good for hospitality it can only have a negative impact on everyone else surely?

forfucksakenett · 24/10/2021 10:29

Love this! I hope they ask a belter and it os more mature than my pre prepared question should I ever meet him which is 'Why are you such a dick?'
WouldBeGood · 24/10/2021 10:32

I’d like to do some proper cross examination on him and try to make him answer a bloody question.

forfucksakenett · 24/10/2021 10:34

I don't even think that Perry Mason himself could manage it but I'd certainly be rooting for you. The man has a neck of the finest brass. Why do they not just repeat 'can you answer the question?' Until he does. They always acquiesce.

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/10/2021 10:35

Grin @forfucksakenett and @WouldBeGood! I need to keep politics out of this one unfortunately! I would, however, love to ask, "How can you sleep at night?"

WouldBeGood · 24/10/2021 10:40

Morally bankrupt, I think, so will sleep the deep sleep of the truly appalling

WouldBeGood · 24/10/2021 10:41

It annoys me, as starmer should be able to do it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly. He should be leading Labour to unparalleled victory. It's bizarre.
