The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

youcannot I agree. I always look not obsessively at all at the number of tests and assumed it's back to schoolers doing more tests. East Dunbartonshire cases increased before other council areas so I'm assuming that's because it was one of the first areas to go back.

Another rail. Phoned for a GP appointment for a skin thing. Even though I've taken photos I can't send them in until I've phoned back tomorrow morning and secured a phone appointment. Will the doc have the photos in front of her before the appointment? Or will I have to wait for her to decide after speaking to me that she needs photos and have to arrange another appointment to give her verdict on the photos? Either way it's not efficient. The poor receptionist was almost apologetic even though I'm polite and softly spoken.

The spiel about covid before a receptionist answers the call is pretty tiresome too tbh.

ElephantOfRisk · 18/08/2021 15:26

I've memorised the numbers to press so don't have to listen to all the spiels but it's gutting to go through that, be sitting waiting with the music and then you get "I'm sorry there is no-one to answer your call, please try later" and boom, cut off!

It could definitely be done more efficiently and I think telephone appointments for a lot of stuff is here to stay. I remember speaking to GP after one of the big storms when we ended up all shut in and he said that they went through the whole appointment list and called people and dealt with 90% of the patients effectively on the phone and got the 4 by 4 out to do the rest by house-call.

I needed a fit note extended a week or so ago, sometimes the reception just does it but this time the Dr wanted to speak to me, only no-one told me this until I called after not receiving it. So, when I called in the afternoon of a Tuesday, she could only give me an appointment for a week on Friday unless I called in at 8am the next day to get on the callback list. But they wanted to speak to me so unsure why she couldn't just add me to the list without me calling back?

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2021 15:55

That’s all a bit stressful @mibbelucieachwell.

I find myself withdrawing from the world to avoid it.

And the GP stuff is nonsense, for you and @ElephantOfRisk. It wouldn’t be run like that if they were reliant on customer service to get paid!

Yes, the gp stuff really is nonsense. I can understand they dont always need to see you, but the we'll call you back between 2.30 and 4.30 is doing my head in. I want to speak privately and its really hard with the family around. Last time i was waiting for a phone call back i went a walk for privacy and ended up sitting on a log in a nearby field for an hour waiting for the call back. I mean, thats just crap. I also had weekly phone calls from RAMH during the last lockdown and couldn't get it when i was off, so had to carry my phone on the shopfloor and run out to the trolley bit in the carpark under the shelter when they called me. So bloody bad. It makes my anxiety worse feeling i cant get an appointment. And the recorded message about covid, bloody hellAngry

I've been reading another thread about a 4th wave in Israel and how we need to get boosters happening. Has anyone heard when the boosters start?

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2021 17:48

Dunno. I don’t think we should be getting boosters while so many of the truly vulnerable in the world are without access to vaccines. Seems morally wrong.

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2021 17:49

I really agree that the phone call/phoning back system is super stressful. It is an effective deterrent to seeking treatment, which I reckon is intended. And again explains why frontline services are under pressure.

Christ the cases in my area are higher than in Glasgow. Fed up.

ssd · 18/08/2021 17:53

@WouldBeGood, i agree on both points

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2021 17:56

It is wearing, isn’t it @ssd?

Good thing is that hospital numbers still low.

I think they are only doing boosters for the at risk group. It's worth knowing the differences between UK roll out and Israels though. Israel stuck with the 3 weeks, UK expanded the time frames to 12 for AZ and 8 for Pfizer. Which research is now showing to have been a smart gamble in terms of protection levels as new variants have come through.

Im grateful this thread is here to talk sense to me. Sometimes i spiral depending on what I've read but you keep me grounded here. Thanks all Flowers

One of my colleagues has tested positive for Covid. So PCR test done and home and isolating in my room within 49 minutes of the initial call.

Oh not even a full week inSad why do you have to do PCR at this stage, not just LFT? If you have neg, you can go in as normal without isolating further though?
IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 18/08/2021 19:58

Isn't the guidance/rule now a negative PCR releases you if double jabbed?

Groovee · 18/08/2021 20:24

We're all double vaccinated so it's a negative PCR test. Children came back today but I wasn't in.

Having a rail about Sean Lock who I found incredibly funny. Life is so bloody senseless and unfair. I wonder if he would have made it in non Covid times.

Haudyourwheesht · 18/08/2021 20:59

It's so awful. He seemed like one of life's good guys.

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2021 21:12

I’m really very sad about his death. So bloody funny. One of the good guys
