The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

I've done the govt covid antibodies test as well unsurprisingly I had antibodies!
They are able to distinguish vaccination ones and covid infection obtained ones.

My tip would be to drink a load of water and swing your arms like a windmill for a few minutes.

ElephantOfRisk · 17/08/2021 20:57

what's with all the exercise tips! i'm more scared of that than the finger jagging! Grin

ElephantOfRisk · 17/08/2021 20:59

That's really interesting that they can do that ski I hope they tell me that :)

The video tells you to do it before starting so that blood is flowing more easily 😂

They don't tell you the level of vaccine antibody but will tell you if your positive for covid infection ones. 😊

@ElephantOfRisk, I'm like that with bruises, a big one can appear and i cant remember how or when it happened Confused

ElephantOfRisk · 17/08/2021 21:17

Thanks @Scottishskifun. Because I believe I had it right back in March 2020 and there was no testing, i've never been absolutely sure if i've had it or not. It would be good to know one way or another.

I usually eventually work it out @ssd, generally when i've bashed into it all over again....

I used to get many of these during the clubbing years. Unidentified drinking injury.

WouldBeGood · 17/08/2021 21:21

Sometimes it might not show though, cos T cells

You might not be detectable due to time period past doesn't mean you didn't but it doesn't test for T cells.

Oh well, i'll not get too excited yet then.

How was the toddler group @shouldistop?

Hope you had another good nights sleep last @ssd?

I don’t see why parents, especially primary 1 aren’t allowed in the playground or need to be masked up when you can sit in a football stadium, go to the pub etc.

Work wise it’s the nature of my job that they end sadly. Friday will be a sad day!
Yes I am in Childcare, a nanny.
It appears the market for nannies is slow at the moment. The 30 hours childcare and lockdown have had an impact I think.

After school clubs wont provide me with enough hours. And I don’t like working in nurseries. I’d rather get a job doing anything than work in a nursery again. I will keep scouring the websites and searching and hopefully something will come up.

shouldistop · 18/08/2021 07:18

@runningpink it was good actually, only 90 minutes but baby ds loved it. Was happy at Larry crawling about somewhere different for a change!

See I'm the opposite... would never nanny or be a childminder.

My friend works in a breakfast and after school club. She says she enjoys the break in the middle.

ssd · 18/08/2021 08:36

@runningpink, thanks i slept ok, i had a cup if tea decaff tea, not really sure if that helped...ive got health anxiety just now as i got my mammogram letter in, ive had one before 3 years ago so im nit worried about getting it done, im just worried they find something that needs further investigation. Im literally terrified of needles. And im terrified of cancer, thats my biggest fear ever. Ive not noticed any changes but my friend had cancer picked up from a routine mammogram and that is keeping my anxiety sky high. I will go of course, im just in bits about it, im waking with my stomach churning. I wish i could get on top of this. I know the mammogram is a good thing and might potentially save my life but i honestly think i couldn't take it if there was something wrong with me. My heart is racing at the thought of it.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 18/08/2021 09:10

I know exactly what you mean @ssd. Cancer is my deepest (irrational) fear too and I'm scared to do the self breast checks in case I find something and then have to deal with it. Rationally, I know that's daft, as me looking or not won't affect whether cancer is there, and picking it up early massively improves the chances of successful treatment. I think all the scare stories about services being overrun and people not being treated in time (and my own experiences of trying to get a GP appointment) are worsening the fear, but they do seem to take potential cancer seriously. I try to keep in mind that my life time risk of breast cancer is about 8%, which means there's a 92% chance I will never develop it at any point in my life. I'd happily take those odds in most areas of life!

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2021 09:19

An actual toddler group @shouldistop! Glad it was good.

@runningpink, ah, I can see how all that has affected the market for your line of work. Let’s hope people get back to the office and need your services!

@ssd I hate stuff like that although it’s obviously good that it happens. I worry I’m like an old house, and if you dig about you’ll find something wrong 😂

In better news, I'm happy to say that parents wearing masks at the school gate are probably in the minority already and not many are worrying about distancing (although there is plenty of space tbh). No one is being challenged on it, and there are no 'reminder' messages from the school as we got last year. And the school is going to allow children to use the changing rooms for PE for the first time in over a year! It seems the parents and school are (mostly) ready and happy to return to normal, so all we need now is for the SG to formally drop all this nonsense.

shouldistop · 18/08/2021 10:07

I've not worn a mask to school yet, no reminders for us thankfully.

MIL is coming over to look after the baby for 2 hours over lunchtime while I sort the kitchen cupboards. Trying to get him used to being cared for by her. After a couple of weeks I'll maybe even nip out for appointments while she's here.

NotSoLongGoodbye · 18/08/2021 10:20

Have people seen this

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-58244323

Scottish Gov allegedly wants to retain powers to close schools, impose lockdowns etc beyond 2022

Hope to god this is just speculation ... it's horrific

ssd · 18/08/2021 10:22

@WouldBeGood, i like the old house analogy. Im the same Grin

I'm glad schoolgates and toddler groups are getting back to normal. I can't imagine the upheaval you've all been through, and i don't even know how i feel about it all anymore. The new rules where if you live with someone positive but you do a lft and its negative and therefore you can still go to work, or to the shops, worries me. Yet i know we need to move on in all this. Its just that theres no social distancing in my store and those people could be living with positive cases worries me.
Anyway sorry to be gloom and doom. I'm meeting a friend for lunch. I'm not staying in. But its all just a but scary.

shouldistop · 18/08/2021 10:23

@ssd I get that and tbf if dh tested positive I'm pretty sure I'd stay home tbh. Although I wouldn't want to keep ds off school so it's a tricky one.

ElephantOfRisk · 18/08/2021 10:24

It's good to get out @ssd (I should take my own advice in this) and I hope you have a lovely lunch. We're going to visit DS2 for a couple of days next week and going to make a real effort though.
