The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

I’m quite sure the sticky floor of Clatty Pats contained more life-threatening germs than covid Wink

GW’s west end in my much, much younger days. The best timesGrin and life how it’s meant to be when you’re young and irresponsible carefree

Haudyourwheesht · 30/08/2021 19:45

If my higher class last year is anything to go by, the young folk certainly were not sitting in staring at the walls. And I'm glad.

mibbelucieachwell · 30/08/2021 19:56

Wow. JL's new found celebrity has clearly gone to his head. He's completely lost touch. How I'm looking forward to the time when nobody is talking about "the virus" anymore and he's wistfully looking back at his fifteen minutes of fame when the little people looked to him for guidance and reassurance. Take heart railers, the time will come when people will rack their brains to remember the name of that guy with the loud, nasally voice who used to pontificate on and on in and incredibly patronising way about roast tatty servers and other such guff.

Scottishskifun · 30/08/2021 20:00

Well I'm feeling a little more comforted after watching BBC news Scotland with the reporter saying although the government were meeting to discuss case numbers their was little they could do as furlough was ending and restricting people in others houses would be a "hard sell" to the public (no shit!)
So hopefully there is little option and I for one will not have my freedoms restricted again or stay away from my family now we are all vaccinated!

shouldistop · 30/08/2021 20:14

I've still got an upset tummy and aches and pains Sad lying on the couch with a hot water bottle. At least it's stopped me from eating any rubbish today.
I'm on a serious weight loss mission. Desperate to lose a stone by the end of the year

titsintiers · 30/08/2021 21:00

Hope you're feeling better soon@shouldistop

listentomydeclaration · 30/08/2021 21:05

If restrictions are brought back, it'll be the ones that can be done without needing furlough or school closures.

So probably being told not to travel to particular places, being told to work from home if you can, wear masks, maybe earlier closing times for bars but not closing them altogether

rookiemere · 30/08/2021 21:15

@listentomydeclaration the Scottish wfh advice/directive about wfh if possible has not been lifted, despite us allegedly living with no restrictions.

Hopefully a day or two of self isolation will give Ms Sturgeon a hint of how bleak and relentless it actually is. If they add in any nonsense about not traveling outside your local area again, I'm not sure I'll cope.

In other news DSs private school sent an email saying case numbers were so high, there's no way to realistically control them and they couldn't notify individual classes as they'd spend all day emailing.

DH, DS and I all did lateral flow tests, all negative although wondering if I should get PCR as feverish with sore throat and headache.

WouldBeGood · 30/08/2021 21:22

Sending good get well vibes to all the poorly railers 💐

I definitely think more people are slowly creeping back into offices regardless of the WFH directive, esp with bigger companies with English HQ.

I really can't see how they can return to restrictions on business without the back up of furlough. Businesses can't cut staff hours that easily unless they are on a zero hour contract. Many businesses are hanging by a thread anyway it would be easier to out the plug and start again in a years time.

The stuff they are likely to try is no house visits but actually I think people will ignore, how can it seriously be safer to be in a cafe with 15 random folk rather than in a pals house with just two of you?

Haudyourwheesht · 30/08/2021 22:21

@rookiemere She doesn't have to isolate any more as she's had a negative PCR. So not a long time at all.

listentomydeclaration · 31/08/2021 09:45

DD negative and back to school today

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 10:56

Seems like the whole of Scotland is testing, awaiting results, or positive!

Both dc at home, dc1 has flipped out over online work, decided to bully her sister who is home sick and then following me around berating me for the situation none of us has any control over.

Shame it's too early for wine.

@rookiemere I know quite a few people who have had negative lateral flows and positive PCRs. I would get one to be on the safe side if I was you x

rookiemere · 31/08/2021 11:09

Thanks @hilbil21 no better this morning ( despite another negative lateral flow) so I'm just heading off for a PCR.

hilbil21 · 31/08/2021 11:11

@rookiemere fingers crossed for you Smile

It really does! We got through this whole time until now with only one of us (me!) needing a PCR test at all, and with DD never sent home from nursery to isolate. She's been in P1 for a week and yesterday she needed her first test thanks to vomiting and a temperature Confused
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 31/08/2021 11:28

We are another house hit by a nasty bug but it isn't covid. All the school mums talking today saying kids have been tested all negative. I am so far managing to avoid it but both kids and DP not so lucky.

I'm failing about NHS GGC for the simple fact of the shite they are putting on social media. Oh remind your friend to get tested 🤦‍♀️ then do not attend a&e it's really busy. I appreciate it is but there are people that will leave something that's urgent because of these posts 😢 you will still get wee jemima up for her x-ray or the sniffles every second week complaining about the wait times but people on genuine need will leave it.

Sorry that was a rant and a half

Scottishskifun · 31/08/2021 11:41

😬 How old is DDs? If over 16 I would probably go for sarcasm of yes let me just get my magic wand to make the whole situation disappear now where did I leave it....... It might make her realise that she is being unreasonable to take her frustrations out on you and her sister despite being valid frustrations!
riverrunning · 31/08/2021 11:52

She's 11 soon, she's reading. It'll pass, I just hope this isn't the shape this term is going to take - you always expect to get sick days through autumn into winter but so early!

ssd · 31/08/2021 11:57

Some of you are really going through the mill and you have my sympathy. That was us last week but ds feeling much better now, 2 pcrs negative.

Its not a natural way to live, is it Sad

LizzieMacQueen · 31/08/2021 12:02

Is it possible the negative LFTs are because people aren't doing them properly?

rookiemere · 31/08/2021 12:06

I do wonder this @LizzieMacQueen annoyingly I had to do my own PCR test just now. I have tongue tie so I can't see the back of my throat effectively so no idea if I'm stabbing my tonsils or not - I swirled it round both nostrils to try to compensate.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 31/08/2021 12:11

The lateral flow tests are notoriously unreliable. I've read quite a few medical articles about this. I do question the value tbh. On a related matter, how long are PCR results taking to come back. We've been waiting 24 hours but I'm not holding my breath as it was difficult to get a test slot yesterday.
