The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

Ds was told it could take up to 3 days but he did 2 last week and both back the next day

shouldistop · 31/08/2021 12:20

Someone i know waited 3 days for their results recently.

God it's horrible looking after a mobile baby when you've got a stomach bug Sad

I've just cleaned one of the bathrooms and I'll use the other one. Probably too late now to avoid everyone catching it though. The baby's nappy wasn't good earlier Sadand he didn't sleep well last night or at his nap.

riverrunning · 31/08/2021 12:22

Yeah I wonder if lateral flows aren't doing some harm - the two cases in dc1's class both had initial negative LFTs

ssd · 31/08/2021 12:28

Whats the deal with the abundance of lateral flows going about?

Has a tory 'friend ' got a contract to make them??

I think they are more about making someone rich rather than keeping us safe

latissimusdorsi · 31/08/2021 12:32

Well the lat flows we have here all seem to come from China.
IronicallyHmm

rookiemere · 31/08/2021 12:34

SG has also wasted money by setting up centres for people to do self administered LFTs when these are easily done at home Confused.
I agree LFTs pick up some cases but seems like many false negatives.

I was told I should get test results from PCR within 24 hrs, that's Edinburgh though and loads of test availability although drive through was pretty busy.

Lockdownbear · 31/08/2021 13:04

Someone is making money out of these tests.

How long before they decide people only need to test if they have symptoms? That is a very quick way of bringing the numbers down. Or do we think that would result in many people being hospital type ill?

This was the rule end of last summer and they lockdowned Aberdeen for reaching over 20/100,000 which definitely seems crazy now!
ADreadedSunnyDay · 31/08/2021 13:34

OK test result back - Somewhat surprised it was so quick as we had trouble getting a test slot near to us yesterday.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 31/08/2021 13:35

And thankfully it's negative.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 13:41

Railing against the SG and JL.

Chris Musson reporting that there are whispers that they are going to use the ending of furlough as a reason to restrict hospitality hours and saying pubs and nightclubs will be first to be hit if we “go into reverse gear again”

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 31/08/2021 13:46

@Scottishskifun but the big difference between now and last summer is vaccine. All the vulnerable are done and adults who want a vaccine have got at least one.

listentomydeclaration · 31/08/2021 13:49

Called it - closing pubs early!

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 13:50

You did @listentomydeclaration!

Has there been a new announcement? Nothing on bbc website.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 13:56

It was just the Chris Musson tweet I saw

Glad there aren’t any more rumours about full lockdowns at least. But I really can’t see the point of tinkering around the edges of restrictions by changing pub opening hours, which would surely do very little to stop cases but do a lot to hurt those businesses and make people generally more miserable.

BroccoliFloret · 31/08/2021 14:02

Shall we have another wee "what the fuck is the NHS playing at" rant?

I have been on a waiting list for dermatology for over a year, I have these wee dermal cyst things on my head which are a right nuisance and I keep catching them on my comb.

Letter just arrived. Appointment TODAY at 6pm at Yorkhill.

Just as well:

  1. I am working from home and was home when the postman arrived.
  2. I don't need to pull childcare out of my arse with 4 hours notice.
  3. I can drive myself to the appointment and don't need to arrange transport, with 4 hours notice.
  4. I don't have other plans or commitments.

And it's not a delay in the post either, it's postmarked yesterday. So they're sitting there on a Monday, deciding it's a fabulous idea to send out letters for the next day.

Jeezo.

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2021 14:03

It’s strange how full opening in England hasn’t upped their rates… almost as if it’s not the fault of hospitality.

Maybe just our really shite government

OP posts:
GoldenOmber · 31/08/2021 14:04

That’s ridiculous BroccoliFloret!

BroccoliFloret · 31/08/2021 14:05

Oh and to add to my rant, there's a message saying that not attending the appointment costs NHS Scotland £135.

SO HOW ABOUT YOU SEND NOTICE IN PLENTY OF TIME THEN????

shouldistop · 31/08/2021 14:10

I've given up and gone to bed, I feel awful. Can't eat anything or stay out of the bathroom.
Feel bad for dh who now has to manage another 2 hours of work, the baby, school run and all the housework / laundry that still needs done for the day plus dinner and homework.
I'm upstairs in spare bedroom and just told dh to bring the baby to me if he needs milk.

GoldenOmber · 31/08/2021 14:10

Reminds me of when of my DC was under a consultant for a while as a baby, and the referral was made before birth because we knew it was coming.

Midwife: “No you don’t need to do anything, after the baby’s here you’ll get notified about your first appointment.”

Consultant, phoning me up a week later: “we SHOULD be able to book in an appointment at however-many months old but it never works so here’s the number for my secretary, when the baby’s born you call her and tell her and we’ll sort it that way.”

Scottishskifun · 31/08/2021 14:27

Nooooo never could England be doing better then our fair Scotland I mean NS is so cautious she tells us all the time surely that means Scotland is winning on driving down cases......... 🤔😂

Or maybe up here we all lick each other in the pub that's why it's their fault.....

Hang on... So if they reintroduce restrictions (hitting hospitality first) then that's somehow the fault of furlough ending (or possibly our fault for spreading the virus round and not following the rules properly?Hmm), and not the fault of the SG who makes the decision to do the restricting? When no other of the UK nations has felt the need to reintroduce restrictions, even with higher cases. How does that work then?! Do they honestly not care about jobs/ livelihoods/ mental health? Or is this the Greens getting to them on Zero Growth?

shouldistop Flowers and a Brew. Sorry you're still feeling grim. Hope you feel better soon.

broccoli That's crazy! What are they playing at? What if you'd been at work? Even if 9-5 you couldn't have made that, unless you live next to your work AND next to the hospital! I mean, surely that's not an unreasonable assumption- they must know most people couldn't make that appointment. Are you sure they haven't cocked up the invite and it's actually for next month or something? Is there a number you can call to check? DM got a weird appointment letter at an inconvenient hospital in the next council area at about 8am, which she had to ask her neighbour to drive her to. It turned out they'd messed up, and meant it to be at her local hospital, the following week, like all other similar appointments... So that was a waste of time for everyone.
